Pedesetsedmogodišnjem muškarcu iz Marylanda u SAD-u ransplantirano je srce genetski modificirane svinje, objavio je New York Times, a prenosi portal Zdravlje.
To je prva uspješna transplantacija svinjskog srca u ljudsko biće. Osmosatna operacija obavljena je u petak u Baltimoreu, a pacijent David Bennett bio je dobro u ponedjeljak, tvrde kirurzi Medicinskog centra Sveučilišta Maryland.
- Stvara puls, stvara pritisak... To je njegovo srce - zaključio je doktor Bartley Griffith, direktor programa transplantacije srca u medicinskom centru, koji je izveo operaciju.
Dodao je da su svi liječnici iznimno zadovoljni rezultatom, ali i da je potreban oprez jer nije moguće predvidjeti što sutra donosi.
Prošle je godine oko 41.354 Amerikanaca dobilo transplantirani organ, a više od polovine njih dobilo je bubrege, prema United Network for Organ Sharing, neprofitnoj organizaciji koja koordinira napore u nabavi organa u zemlji.
No, postoji akutni nedostatak organa, a svaki dan umire desetak ljudi s popisa. Ukupno 3.817 Amerikanaca prošle je godine primilo ljudska srca darivatelja kao zamjenu, više nego ikad prije, no potencijalna potražnja je i dalje veća, navodi portal Zdravlje.
Znanstvenici su grozničavo radili na razvoju svinja čije organe ljudsko tijelo ne bi odbacilo. Istraživački napori ubrzani su u prošlom desetljeću zahvaljujući novim tehnologijama za usađivanje gena i kloniranje.
Istraživači se nadaju da će ovakvi postupci pokrenuti novu eru u medicini i stvoriti budućnost u kojoj ljudi više neće morati čekati na presađivanje organa.
Ovo je prijelomni događaj, ocijenio je doktor David Klassen, glavni medicinski službenik Ujedinjene mreže za dijeljenje organa, koji je prije bio transplantacijski kirurg na Sveučilištu Maryland.
- Počinju se otvarati vrata koja će, vjerujem, dovesti do velikih promjena u načinu na koji liječimo zatajenje organa - ističe. No, dodao je da postoje mnoge prepreke koje treba prevladati prije nego što se takav postupak može široko primijeniti, piše Zdravlje.

Pedesetsedmogodišnjem muškarcu iz Marylanda u SAD-u ransplantirano je srce genetski modificirane svinje, objavio je New York Times, a prenosi portal Zdravlje.
To je prva uspješna transplantacija svinjskog srca u ljudsko biće. Osmosatna operacija obavljena je u petak u Baltimoreu, a pacijent David Bennett bio je dobro u ponedjeljak, tvrde kirurzi Medicinskog centra Sveučilišta Maryland.
- Stvara puls, stvara pritisak... To je njegovo srce - zaključio je doktor Bartley Griffith, direktor programa transplantacije srca u medicinskom centru, koji je izveo operaciju.
Dodao je da su svi liječnici iznimno zadovoljni rezultatom, ali i da je potreban oprez jer nije moguće predvidjeti što sutra donosi.
Prošle je godine oko 41.354 Amerikanaca dobilo transplantirani organ, a više od polovine njih dobilo je bubrege, prema United Network for Organ Sharing, neprofitnoj organizaciji koja koordinira napore u nabavi organa u zemlji.
No, postoji akutni nedostatak organa, a svaki dan umire desetak ljudi s popisa. Ukupno 3.817 Amerikanaca prošle je godine primilo ljudska srca darivatelja kao zamjenu, više nego ikad prije, no potencijalna potražnja je i dalje veća, navodi portal Zdravlje.
Znanstvenici su grozničavo radili na razvoju svinja čije organe ljudsko tijelo ne bi odbacilo. Istraživački napori ubrzani su u prošlom desetljeću zahvaljujući novim tehnologijama za usađivanje gena i kloniranje.
Istraživači se nadaju da će ovakvi postupci pokrenuti novu eru u medicini i stvoriti budućnost u kojoj ljudi više neće morati čekati na presađivanje organa.
Ovo je prijelomni događaj, ocijenio je doktor David Klassen, glavni medicinski službenik Ujedinjene mreže za dijeljenje organa, koji je prije bio transplantacijski kirurg na Sveučilištu Maryland.
- Počinju se otvarati vrata koja će, vjerujem, dovesti do velikih promjena u načinu na koji liječimo zatajenje organa - ističe. No, dodao je da postoje mnoge prepreke koje treba prevladati prije nego što se takav postupak može široko primijeniti, piše Zdravlje.
