Međunarodni teniski savez (ITF) objavio je kako će žensko ekipno natjecanje pod njegovom ingerencijom od 2021. godine umjesto imena Fed Cup nositi naziv Billie Jean King Cup u čast jedne od najvećih pionirki u povijesti ženskog tenisa.

- Jako sam ponosna i počašćena ovime. I dalje mi se čini kao da sanjam. Fed Cup je pokrenut 63 godine nakon Davis Cupa, ali smo narasli na 116 sudionika. U ženskom tenisu nagradni fond je jednak kao i u muškom što šalje snažnu poruku jednakosti - izjavila je danas 76-godišnja King, koja je tijekom karijere osvojila 12 "grand slam" naslova, sedam Fed Cupova kao igračica i još četiri kao izbornica.

- Billie Jean King je uvijek krčila nove putova. Od toga da je igrala prvi Fed Cup te bila dio pobjedničke ekipe 1963., preko osnivanja WTA-a kojemu je bila i prva predsjednica, pa do toga da je postala prva sportašica koja je dobila Predsjedničku medalju slobode. Danas je dodala novo 'prvo' na taj popis. Novo ime Fed Cupa je počast svemu što je postigla - objavio je predsjednik ITF-a David Haggerty.

Međunarodni teniski savez (ITF) objavio je kako će žensko ekipno natjecanje pod njegovom ingerencijom od 2021. godine umjesto imena Fed Cup nositi naziv Billie Jean King Cup u čast jedne od najvećih pionirki u povijesti ženskog tenisa.

- Jako sam ponosna i počašćena ovime. I dalje mi se čini kao da sanjam. Fed Cup je pokrenut 63 godine nakon Davis Cupa, ali smo narasli na 116 sudionika. U ženskom tenisu nagradni fond je jednak kao i u muškom što šalje snažnu poruku jednakosti - izjavila je danas 76-godišnja King, koja je tijekom karijere osvojila 12 "grand slam" naslova, sedam Fed Cupova kao igračica i još četiri kao izbornica.

- Billie Jean King je uvijek krčila nove putova. Od toga da je igrala prvi Fed Cup te bila dio pobjedničke ekipe 1963., preko osnivanja WTA-a kojemu je bila i prva predsjednica, pa do toga da je postala prva sportašica koja je dobila Predsjedničku medalju slobode. Danas je dodala novo 'prvo' na taj popis. Novo ime Fed Cupa je počast svemu što je postigla - objavio je predsjednik ITF-a David Haggerty.

Međunarodni teniski savez (ITF) objavio je kako će žensko ekipno natjecanje pod njegovom ingerencijom od 2021. godine umjesto imena Fed Cup nositi naziv Billie Jean King Cup u čast jedne od najvećih pionirki u povijesti ženskog tenisa.

- Jako sam ponosna i počašćena ovime. I dalje mi se čini kao da sanjam. Fed Cup je pokrenut 63 godine nakon Davis Cupa, ali smo narasli na 116 sudionika. U ženskom tenisu nagradni fond je jednak kao i u muškom što šalje snažnu poruku jednakosti - izjavila je danas 76-godišnja King, koja je tijekom karijere osvojila 12 "grand slam" naslova, sedam Fed Cupova kao igračica i još četiri kao izbornica.
