Znanstvenici vjeruju kako flavanoli, antioksidanti iz zrna kakaa, mogu ljudima u šezdesetim godinama života dati pamćenje tipičnih 30-godišnjaka i 40-godišnjaka.

Istraživanje provedeno u medicinskom centru Sveučilišta Columbia u New Yorku pruža prve dokaza kako se protiv slabljenja pamćenja vezanog uz starenje, što je uobičajeni problem zbog kojeg stariji ljudi zaboravljaju male stvari poput imena poznanika ili gdje su nešto ostavili, možemo boriti promjenama u prehrani.

U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 37 volontera u dobi između 50 i 69 godina, podijeljenih u dvije skupine. Jedna skupina je dnevno pila kakao s visokim udjelom flavanola (900 miligrama), dok je druga uzimala piće sa samo deset miligrama dnevno.

Nakon tri mjeseca, skupina koja je uzimala veliku količinu flavanola pokazivala je znakove bržeg i jasnijeg prepoznavanja vizualnih uzoraka. Snimke mozga prije i nakon istraživanja pokazale su bolju prokrvljenost jednog od dijelova u kojemu se stvaraju nove moždane stanice.

- Ako je sudionik istraživanja imao na početku tipično pamćenje 60-godišnje osobe, nakon tri mjeseca imao je pamćenje 30-godišnje ili 40-godišnje osobe – kaže dr. Scott A. Small.

Znanstvenici kažu kako ovo ne znači da ljudi trebaju jesti više čokolade jer je u istraživanju bilo korišteno specijalno napravljeno piće od zrna kakaa, a ne odnosi se i na eventualni utjecaj kakaa na demenciju, koja se razlikuje od slabljenja pamćenja vezanog uz starenje.

Trebat će provesti puno opsežnije istraživanje kako bi se utvrdilo može li zaista veća količina flavonola u prehrani utjecati na poboljšanje pamćenja u starijoj životnoj dobi.

No, šalica toplog napitka od kvalitetnog kakaa prije spavanja zasigurno neće naštetiti, ako neki drugi zdravstveni problemi ne priječe konzumiranje takvog napitka.

Znanstvenici vjeruju kako flavanoli, antioksidanti iz zrna kakaa, mogu ljudima u šezdesetim godinama života dati pamćenje tipičnih 30-godišnjaka i 40-godišnjaka.

Istraživanje provedeno u medicinskom centru Sveučilišta Columbia u New Yorku pruža prve dokaza kako se protiv slabljenja pamćenja vezanog uz starenje, što je uobičajeni problem zbog kojeg stariji ljudi zaboravljaju male stvari poput imena poznanika ili gdje su nešto ostavili, možemo boriti promjenama u prehrani.

U istraživanju je sudjelovalo 37 volontera u dobi između 50 i 69 godina, podijeljenih u dvije skupine. Jedna skupina je dnevno pila kakao s visokim udjelom flavanola (900 miligrama), dok je druga uzimala piće sa samo deset miligrama dnevno.

Nakon tri mjeseca, skupina koja je uzimala veliku količinu flavanola pokazivala je znakove bržeg i jasnijeg prepoznavanja vizualnih uzoraka. Snimke mozga prije i nakon istraživanja pokazale su bolju prokrvljenost jednog od dijelova u kojemu se stvaraju nove moždane stanice.

- Ako je sudionik istraživanja imao na početku tipično pamćenje 60-godišnje osobe, nakon tri mjeseca imao je pamćenje 30-godišnje ili 40-godišnje osobe – kaže dr. Scott A. Small.

Znanstvenici kažu kako ovo ne znači da ljudi trebaju jesti više čokolade jer je u istraživanju bilo korišteno specijalno napravljeno piće od zrna kakaa, a ne odnosi se i na eventualni utjecaj kakaa na demenciju, koja se razlikuje od slabljenja pamćenja vezanog uz starenje.

Trebat će provesti puno opsežnije istraživanje kako bi se utvrdilo može li zaista veća količina flavonola u prehrani utjecati na poboljšanje pamćenja u starijoj životnoj dobi.

No, šalica toplog napitka od kvalitetnog kakaa prije spavanja zasigurno neće naštetiti, ako neki drugi zdravstveni problemi ne priječe konzumiranje takvog napitka.
