Karijere Winone Ryder i Michaela Keatona krenule su uzlaznom putanjom nakon “Bubimira” (“Beetlejuice”, 1988.) redatelja Tima Burtona. Winona se specijalizirala za uloge mračnih, čudnih i neobičnih djevojaka nakon što je u “Bubimiru” odigrala lik Lydije. Gotičari su je zavoljeli čim je Lydia rekla “Moj život je jedna velika mračna soba” i “Većina živih ljudi se boji čudnog i neobičnog. Ja jesam čudna i neobična...”, pa ima smisla da ju je Burton angažirao i za “Edwarda Škarorukog”.

Keaton je, pak, demonstrirao sav talent u kreaciji demonsko-zombijevskog “bio egzorcista” koji se bavi egzorcizmom živih, parafrazira Prljavog Harryja (“Go ahead, make my millenium”) i gledao je “Istjerivača đavola” oko 167 puta, a čije se ime ne smije izgovoriti triput (dva puta manje od Candymanovog) ako ga ne želite u svom zagrobnom životu.

U ulozi Bubimira, nestašnog vražićka s “onoga svijeta”, blijedog lica, šupljih očiju i kvarnih zelenih zubi, odjevenog u odijelo boje zebre, Keaton je preuzeo štafetu od đavlijeg ženskaroša Jacka Nicholsona iz “Vještica iz Eastwicka”, taman da se iduće godine suoče u Burtonovu “Batmanu”.

Ipak, najveća zvijezda gdjekad podcijenjenog filma je sam Burton kojemu je “Beetlejuice” trasirao i lansirao karijeru nakon prvijenca “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure”. “Bubimir” je punokrvni Burton, makabrična fantastična hororska komedija morbidnog humora kao stvorena za Noć vještica, napučena društvenim autsajderima i režirana s unikatnim osjećajem za vizualno.

Osamdesete su bile prepune žanrovskih hibrida na granici “PG-13” predikata (“Gremlini”, “Istjerivači duhova”, “Labirint”) i hororskih antagonista iz “druge dimenzije” (“Strava u Ulici brijestova”), ali Burton je film načinio jedinstvenim čak i kad je Bubimir, pretvoren u zmiju s njegovom glavom, mogao podsjetiti na Freddyja Krugera iz trećeg dijela “Nightmare On Elm Street” serijala.

Kruger baš nije bio horor lik iz crtića, a Bubimir jest, zato nije čudno da je nakon filma snimljena crtana serija, kao i to da je Burton ovdje postavio temelje za mnoge kasnije zagrobne uratke, i svoje (“Moje najdraže čudovište”, “Mrtva nevjesta”), i tuđe (“Coco i velika tajna”).

Burton je pronašao idealan materijal za svoju mračnu dušu u scenariju koji su napisali Michael McDowell i Larry Wilson (na televiziji radili “Alfred Hitchcock Presents”) te Warren Skaaren (“Policajac s Beverly Hillsa II”). Priča prati mladi bračni par nakon što dožive prometnu nesreću i stradaju.

Oni su Adam i Barbara Maitland, a tumače ih glumci u tadašnjem usponu, ne toliko poznati Alec Baldwin i afirmiranija Geena Davis (“Muha”, “Slučajni turist”). Nakon nesreće Adam i Barbara se vraćaju kući i postupno shvaćaju da su mrtvi kad pronađu “vodič za nedavno preminule”, da ih živi ne mogu vidjeti, te da ne mogu pobjeći iz vlastita doma jer napolju ih čeka čudnovati zagrobni svijet gdje vreba pješčani crv kao da je dogmizao iz “Dine”.

Kad se u njihovu kuću doseli newyorška materijalistička “yuppie” obitelj, Charles Deetz (Jeffrey Jones; “Slobodan dan Ferrisa Bullera”) sa suprugom Delijom (Catherine O’Hara; “Sam u kući”) i kćerkom Lydijom, Adam i Barbara odluče svoj dom pretvoriti u “haunted house” zdanje i preplašiti nove stanovnike kao materijalizirani duhovi ne bi li ih otjerali.

Plašenje se sastoji od toga da Barbara visi u ormaru i da joj oči ispadnu iz duplji ili da je Adam bez glave, a par poseže i za klasičnim štosevima, tipa da stave na sebe bijele plahte. Međutim, Charles i Delia ih ne vide, samo Lydia. “Jeste li ‘Noć živih mrtvaca’ ispod plahti?”, pita Lydia. Adam i Barbara su razočarani i prestravljeni što su “zatočeni ovdje s ovim ljudima”.

“Čemu biti duh ako ne možeš preplašiti druge?”, dvoji Barbara, stoga odluče angažirati Bubimira da prestraši Deetzove, ali on nije netko kome se može vjerovati. Spoj straha i smijeha, hororske fantazije i fantastične komedije nije uvijek usklađen i u nekim scenama film je datiran, ali je svejedno kreativan i anarhičan komad filmskog paranormalnog zabavnog parka.

“Beetlejuice” je svakako nešto što se onda nije viđalo svaki dan, ni danas, zahvaljujući Burtonovu svježem “hand made” pristupu scenografiji i vizualnim “stop motion” efektima te nizu nezaboravnih scena poput zaraznoga grupnog “lip-synch” pjevanja hit-pjesme Harryja Belafontea ”Banana Boat” u režiji Bubimira.

Vizualizacija zagrobnog života i njegove birokracije kao svojevrsnog čistilišta sa socijalnim radnicama (Silvia Sydney), šalterima, čekaonicama, ali i sobama izgubljenih duša, koje su “smrt za mrtve”, napose je iznimno maštovita. Barbara i Adam u čekaonici sreću nedavno preminule klijente, redom bizarne kreature poput tipa sa smanjenom glavom, čovjeka s kokošjom kosti u grlu ili prepolovljene žene čiji gornji i donji dio tijela sjede jedan do drugoga.

“Mrtvi ste, malo je kasno za biti neurotičan”, kaže socijalna radnica. Ni u smrti nema bijega od životnih nervoza i birokracije, kao da poručuje satirički raspoloženi Burton koji je snimio bolje filmove (“Batman se vraća”, “Ed Wood”...), ali nerijetko zanemareni “Bubimir” ostaje neizgovoreni kamen temeljac njegove filmografije. Satiričke oštrice

Satirički duh osamdesetih osjeti se u oštrici na račun materijalizma i otkačenim TV reklamama kojima su obilovali "RoboCop" i "Trkač". Uzgred, u planu je snimanje nastavka "Bubimira" u kojem bi glumila sve popularnija Jenna Ortega (s Burtonom snimila "Wednesday"), a od stare ekipe se vratili Winona i Keaton.

Karijere Winone Ryder i Michaela Keatona krenule su uzlaznom putanjom nakon “Bubimira” (“Beetlejuice”, 1988.) redatelja Tima Burtona. Winona se specijalizirala za uloge mračnih, čudnih i neobičnih djevojaka nakon što je u “Bubimiru” odigrala lik Lydije. Gotičari su je zavoljeli čim je Lydia rekla “Moj život je jedna velika mračna soba” i “Većina živih ljudi se boji čudnog i neobičnog. Ja jesam čudna i neobična...”, pa ima smisla da ju je Burton angažirao i za “Edwarda Škarorukog”.

Keaton je, pak, demonstrirao sav talent u kreaciji demonsko-zombijevskog “bio egzorcista” koji se bavi egzorcizmom živih, parafrazira Prljavog Harryja (“Go ahead, make my millenium”) i gledao je “Istjerivača đavola” oko 167 puta, a čije se ime ne smije izgovoriti triput (dva puta manje od Candymanovog) ako ga ne želite u svom zagrobnom životu.

U ulozi Bubimira, nestašnog vražićka s “onoga svijeta”, blijedog lica, šupljih očiju i kvarnih zelenih zubi, odjevenog u odijelo boje zebre, Keaton je preuzeo štafetu od đavlijeg ženskaroša Jacka Nicholsona iz “Vještica iz Eastwicka”, taman da se iduće godine suoče u Burtonovu “Batmanu”.

Ipak, najveća zvijezda gdjekad podcijenjenog filma je sam Burton kojemu je “Beetlejuice” trasirao i lansirao karijeru nakon prvijenca “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure”. “Bubimir” je punokrvni Burton, makabrična fantastična hororska komedija morbidnog humora kao stvorena za Noć vještica, napučena društvenim autsajderima i režirana s unikatnim osjećajem za vizualno.

Osamdesete su bile prepune žanrovskih hibrida na granici “PG-13” predikata (“Gremlini”, “Istjerivači duhova”, “Labirint”) i hororskih antagonista iz “druge dimenzije” (“Strava u Ulici brijestova”), ali Burton je film načinio jedinstvenim čak i kad je Bubimir, pretvoren u zmiju s njegovom glavom, mogao podsjetiti na Freddyja Krugera iz trećeg dijela “Nightmare On Elm Street” serijala.

Kruger baš nije bio horor lik iz crtića, a Bubimir jest, zato nije čudno da je nakon filma snimljena crtana serija, kao i to da je Burton ovdje postavio temelje za mnoge kasnije zagrobne uratke, i svoje (“Moje najdraže čudovište”, “Mrtva nevjesta”), i tuđe (“Coco i velika tajna”).

Burton je pronašao idealan materijal za svoju mračnu dušu u scenariju koji su napisali Michael McDowell i Larry Wilson (na televiziji radili “Alfred Hitchcock Presents”) te Warren Skaaren (“Policajac s Beverly Hillsa II”). Priča prati mladi bračni par nakon što dožive prometnu nesreću i stradaju.

Oni su Adam i Barbara Maitland, a tumače ih glumci u tadašnjem usponu, ne toliko poznati Alec Baldwin i afirmiranija Geena Davis (“Muha”, “Slučajni turist”). Nakon nesreće Adam i Barbara se vraćaju kući i postupno shvaćaju da su mrtvi kad pronađu “vodič za nedavno preminule”, da ih živi ne mogu vidjeti, te da ne mogu pobjeći iz vlastita doma jer napolju ih čeka čudnovati zagrobni svijet gdje vreba pješčani crv kao da je dogmizao iz “Dine”.

Kad se u njihovu kuću doseli newyorška materijalistička “yuppie” obitelj, Charles Deetz (Jeffrey Jones; “Slobodan dan Ferrisa Bullera”) sa suprugom Delijom (Catherine O’Hara; “Sam u kući”) i kćerkom Lydijom, Adam i Barbara odluče svoj dom pretvoriti u “haunted house” zdanje i preplašiti nove stanovnike kao materijalizirani duhovi ne bi li ih otjerali.

Plašenje se sastoji od toga da Barbara visi u ormaru i da joj oči ispadnu iz duplji ili da je Adam bez glave, a par poseže i za klasičnim štosevima, tipa da stave na sebe bijele plahte. Međutim, Charles i Delia ih ne vide, samo Lydia. “Jeste li ‘Noć živih mrtvaca’ ispod plahti?”, pita Lydia. Adam i Barbara su razočarani i prestravljeni što su “zatočeni ovdje s ovim ljudima”.

“Čemu biti duh ako ne možeš preplašiti druge?”, dvoji Barbara, stoga odluče angažirati Bubimira da prestraši Deetzove, ali on nije netko kome se može vjerovati. Spoj straha i smijeha, hororske fantazije i fantastične komedije nije uvijek usklađen i u nekim scenama film je datiran, ali je svejedno kreativan i anarhičan komad filmskog paranormalnog zabavnog parka.

“Beetlejuice” je svakako nešto što se onda nije viđalo svaki dan, ni danas, zahvaljujući Burtonovu svježem “hand made” pristupu scenografiji i vizualnim “stop motion” efektima te nizu nezaboravnih scena poput zaraznoga grupnog “lip-synch” pjevanja hit-pjesme Harryja Belafontea ”Banana Boat” u režiji Bubimira.

Vizualizacija zagrobnog života i njegove birokracije kao svojevrsnog čistilišta sa socijalnim radnicama (Silvia Sydney), šalterima, čekaonicama, ali i sobama izgubljenih duša, koje su “smrt za mrtve”, napose je iznimno maštovita. Barbara i Adam u čekaonici sreću nedavno preminule klijente, redom bizarne kreature poput tipa sa smanjenom glavom, čovjeka s kokošjom kosti u grlu ili prepolovljene žene čiji gornji i donji dio tijela sjede jedan do drugoga.

“Mrtvi ste, malo je kasno za biti neurotičan”, kaže socijalna radnica. Ni u smrti nema bijega od životnih nervoza i birokracije, kao da poručuje satirički raspoloženi Burton koji je snimio bolje filmove (“Batman se vraća”, “Ed Wood”...), ali nerijetko zanemareni “Bubimir” ostaje neizgovoreni kamen temeljac njegove filmografije. Satiričke oštrice

Satirički duh osamdesetih osjeti se u oštrici na račun materijalizma i otkačenim TV reklamama kojima su obilovali "RoboCop" i "Trkač". Uzgred, u planu je snimanje nastavka "Bubimira" u kojem bi glumila sve popularnija Jenna Ortega (s Burtonom snimila "Wednesday"), a od stare ekipe se vratili Winona i Keaton.

Karijere Winone Ryder i Michaela Keatona krenule su uzlaznom putanjom nakon “Bubimira” (“Beetlejuice”, 1988.) redatelja Tima Burtona. Winona se specijalizirala za uloge mračnih, čudnih i neobičnih djevojaka nakon što je u “Bubimiru” odigrala lik Lydije. Gotičari su je zavoljeli čim je Lydia rekla “Moj život je jedna velika mračna soba” i “Većina živih ljudi se boji čudnog i neobičnog. Ja jesam čudna i neobična...”, pa ima smisla da ju je Burton angažirao i za “Edwarda Škarorukog”.

Keaton je, pak, demonstrirao sav talent u kreaciji demonsko-zombijevskog “bio egzorcista” koji se bavi egzorcizmom živih, parafrazira Prljavog Harryja (“Go ahead, make my millenium”) i gledao je “Istjerivača đavola” oko 167 puta, a čije se ime ne smije izgovo...
