Svjetske rezerve urana dovoljne su za najmanje 100 godina. Za razliku od nafte, taj neobnovljivi izvor energije ima rezerve koje mogu trajati znatno duže, a u slučaju primjene novih tehnologija za proizvodnju električne energije iz atoma, te rezerve bi mogle biti dovoljne za čak tisuću godina! To proizlazi iz najnovijeg izvješća Međunarodne agencije za atomsku energiju (IAEA).

Iako je niz zemalja, na primjer, Njemačka, Velika Britanija, Italija, Švedska, Austrija... usporio ili čak sasvim zaustavio gradnju novih nuklearnih elektrana, posljednjih godina, usporedo s povećanim zahtjevima za energijom i smanjivanjem emisija ugljikova dioksida, sve manjim rezervama nafte i visokim troškovima produkcije iz obnovljivih izvora, u cijelom svijetu raste zanimanje i počinju se ubrzano planirati i graditi nove nuklearne elektrane.

Nuklearna energija, ističe IAEA, nije povoljna samo zbog niske cijene goriva, nego i zbog svoje ekologičnosti, iako iskorišteno gorivo zahtijeva specijalno skladištenje i specijalne mjere sigurnosti prigodom transporta.

“Veći dio urana koji se sada eksploatira, otkriven je još prije 20-30 godina”, navodi analitičar IAEA-e Peter Waggit. Nova, intenzivna istraživanja, koja su u međuvremenu znatno znanstveno i tehnički napredovala, u idućih deset godina otkrit će, vjerojatno, veće rezerve od onih s kojima se sada računa.

A kada bi korištenje nuklearne energije do 2035. poraslo četiri-pet puta, preostale rezerve bi bile dovoljne poslije toga za još najmanje pola stoljeća. Početkom 2009. godine, prema računicama ove agencije, utvrđene svjetske rezerve urana koje su se mogu eksploatirati iznosile su 6,3 milijuna tona.

Najveći proizvođači su Kanada, Kazahstan, Australija, Namibija i Niger. Nuklearna energetika danas pokriva 17 posto svjetske potrošnje električne energije, hidroelektrane 15 posto, tri posto ostali obnovljivi izvori (vjetar, sunce...), dok je ostalo iz neobnovljivih izvora (ugljen, plin, nafta...).

Svjetske rezerve urana dovoljne su za najmanje 100 godina. Za razliku od nafte, taj neobnovljivi izvor energije ima rezerve koje mogu trajati znatno duže, a u slučaju primjene novih tehnologija za proizvodnju električne energije iz atoma, te rezerve bi mogle biti dovoljne za čak tisuću godina! To proizlazi iz najnovijeg izvješća Međunarodne agencije za atomsku energiju (IAEA).

Iako je niz zemalja, na primjer, Njemačka, Velika Britanija, Italija, Švedska, Austrija... usporio ili čak sasvim zaustavio gradnju novih nuklearnih elektrana, posljednjih godina, usporedo s povećanim zahtjevima za energijom i smanjivanjem emisija ugljikova dioksida, sve manjim rezervama nafte i visokim troškovima produkcije iz obnovljivih izvora, u cijelom svijetu raste zanimanje i počinju se ubrzano planirati i graditi nove nuklearne elektrane.

Nuklearna energija, ističe IAEA, nije povoljna samo zbog niske cijene goriva, nego i zbog svoje ekologičnosti, iako iskorišteno gorivo zahtijeva specijalno skladištenje i specijalne mjere sigurnosti prigodom transporta.

“Veći dio urana koji se sada eksploatira, otkriven je još prije 20-30 godina”, navodi analitičar IAEA-e Peter Waggit. Nova, intenzivna istraživanja, koja su u međuvremenu znatno znanstveno i tehnički napredovala, u idućih deset godina otkrit će, vjerojatno, veće rezerve od onih s kojima se sada računa.

A kada bi korištenje nuklearne energije do 2035. poraslo četiri-pet puta, preostale rezerve bi bile dovoljne poslije toga za još najmanje pola stoljeća. Početkom 2009. godine, prema računicama ove agencije, utvrđene svjetske rezerve urana koje su se mogu eksploatirati iznosile su 6,3 milijuna tona.

Najveći proizvođači su Kanada, Kazahstan, Australija, Namibija i Niger. Nuklearna energetika danas pokriva 17 posto svjetske potrošnje električne energije, hidroelektrane 15 posto, tri posto ostali obnovljivi izvori (vjetar, sunce...), dok je ostalo iz neobnovljivih izvora (ugljen, plin, nafta...).

Svjetske rezerve urana dovoljne su za najmanje 100 godina.
