Prilikom analize podataka koje su u posljednjih 13 godina prikupili sa svemirskog teleskopa Fermi Gamma-ray, NASA-ini astronomi otkrili su neočekivani i tajanstveni "signal" koji dolazi izvan naše galaksije, a koji oni ne mogu objasniti, piše Business Insider, a prenosi Jutarnji.
- Radi se o neočekivanoj značajki izvan naše galaksije koju mi još nismo u stanju objasniti - rekao je Francis Reddy iz NASA-inog Centra za svemirske letove Goddard.
Snažan teleskop može detektirati gama zrake, koje su zapravo golemi izboji energične svjetlosti i do stotine milijardi puta jači od onoga što ljudske oči mogu vidjeti. Često se stvaraju kad eksplodiraju zvijezde ili se dogodi nuklearna eksplozija. No NASA-ini znanstvenici alternativni signal otkrili su dok su tražili nešto sasvim drugo.
- To je bilo potpuno slučajno otkriće. Pronašli smo puno jači signal i to na drugom dijelu neba od onoga koji smo tražili - izjavio je Alexander Kashlinsky, kozmolog Sveučilišta Maryland i NASA-inog Goddard Space Flight Centra, koji je novost predstavio Američkom astronomskom društvu.
Tražili jedno, našli drugo
Naime, znanstvenici su tražili jednu od najstarijih značajki gama zraka za stvaranje prvih atoma, poznatu kao kozmička mikrovalna pozadina ili CMB, koja ima dipolnu strukturu, gdje je jedan kraj topliji i opterećeniji od drugoga.
No umjesto toga, otkrili su signal koji dolazi iz sličnoga smjera i ima gotovo identičnu magnitudu kao neke od najenergičnijih kozmičkih čestica koje su ikad detektirali.
- Pronašli smo dipol gama zraka, ali njegov vrh nalazi se na južnom nebu, daleko od CMB-a, dok je njegova magnituda 10 puta veća od onoga što bismo očekivali od našeg kretanja - objasnio je Chris Shrader, astrofizičar s Goddarda.
Znanstvenici misle kako bi ovo otkriće moglo biti povezano s kozmičkim gama zračenjem koje je 2017. godine promatrao opservatorij Pierre Auger u Argentini. Također vjeruju da bi ova dva fenomena, s obzirom na njihovu sličnu strukturu, mogla potjecati iz jednog neidentificiranog izvora. Nadaju se da će locirati tajanstveni izvor ili razviti alternativna objašnjenja za obje spomenute značajke.
Ovo NASA-ino neočekivano otkriće moglo bi pomoći astronomima da potvrde ili ospore ideje o tome kako nastaje struktura dipola.
- Neslaganje s veličinom i smjerom dipola CMB-a moglo bi nam pružiti uvid u fizičke procese koji su se odvijali u vrlo ranom svemiru, potencijalno unatrag do vremena kad je on bio star manje od trilijuntinke sekunde - izjavio je Fernando Atrio-Barandela, koautor znanstvenog rada objavljenog u časopisu The Astrophysical Journal Letters.

Prilikom analize podataka koje su u posljednjih 13 godina prikupili sa svemirskog teleskopa Fermi Gamma-ray, NASA-ini astronomi otkrili su neočekivani i tajanstveni "signal" koji dolazi izvan naše galaksije, a koji oni ne mogu objasniti, piše Business Insider, a prenosi Jutarnji.
- Radi se o neočekivanoj značajki izvan naše galaksije koju mi još nismo u stanju objasniti - rekao je Francis Reddy iz NASA-inog Centra za svemirske letove Goddard.
Snažan teleskop može detektirati gama zrake, koje su zapravo golemi izboji energične svjetlosti i do stotine milijardi puta jači od onoga što ljudske oči mogu vidjeti. Često se stvaraju kad eksplodiraju zvijezde ili se dogodi nuklearna eksplozija. No NASA-ini znanstvenici alternativni signal otkrili su dok su tražili nešto sasvim drugo.
- To je bilo potpuno slučajno otkriće. Pronašli smo puno jači signal i to na drugom dijelu neba od onoga koji smo tražili - izjavio je Alexander Kashlinsky, kozmolog Sveučilišta Maryland i NASA-inog Goddard Space Flight Centra, koji je novost predstavio Američkom astronomskom društvu.
Tražili jedno, našli drugo
Naime, znanstvenici su tražili jednu od najstarijih značajki gama zraka za stvaranje prvih atoma, poznatu kao kozmička mikrovalna pozadina ili CMB, koja ima dipolnu strukturu, gdje je jedan kraj topliji i opterećeniji od drugoga.
No umjesto toga, otkrili su signal koji dolazi iz sličnoga smjera i ima gotovo identičnu magnitudu kao neke od najenergičnijih kozmičkih čestica koje su ikad detektirali.
- Pronašli smo dipol gama zraka, ali njegov vrh nalazi se na južnom nebu, daleko od CMB-a, dok je njegova magnituda 10 puta veća od onoga što bismo očekivali od našeg kretanja - objasnio je Chris Shrader, astrofizičar s Goddarda.
Znanstvenici misle kako bi ovo otkriće moglo biti povezano s kozmičkim gama zračenjem koje je 2017. godine promatrao opservatorij Pierre Auger u Argentini. Također vjeruju da bi ova dva fenomena, s obzirom na njihovu sličnu strukturu, mogla potjecati iz jednog neidentificiranog izvora. Nadaju se da će locirati tajanstveni izvor ili razviti alternativna objašnjenja za obje spomenute značajke.
Ovo NASA-ino neočekivano otkriće moglo bi pomoći astronomima da potvrde ili ospore ideje o tome kako nastaje struktura dipola.
- Neslaganje s veličinom i smjerom dipola CMB-a moglo bi nam pružiti uvid u fizičke procese koji su se odvijali u vrlo ranom svemiru, potencijalno unatrag do vremena kad je on bio star manje od trilijuntinke sekunde - izjavio je Fernando Atrio-Barandela, koautor znanstvenog rada objavljenog u časopisu The Astrophysical Journal Letters.
