Tajni sastanak šefa CIA-e i Volodimira Zelenskog, samo nekoliko tjedana prije početka ruske invazije na susjednu zemlju, spasio je glavu ukrajinskome predsjedniku: Kremlj je bio pomno isplanirao njegovo smaknuće. Otkriće je to iz još neobjavljene knjige američkog autora Chrisa Whipplea: ‘U Bijeloj kući Joea Bidena/Borba njegova života‘, čiji je rukopis u posjedu The Independenta.

U siječnju 2022., kad su se ruski tenkovi već masovno nagomilali na ukrajinskoj granici, direktor CIA-e William Bill Burns krenuo je iz Washingtona na tajno putovanje u Kijev. Imao je samo jedan cilj: sa Zelenskim podijeliti vijest koja je jako iznenadila ukrajinskog prvaka - Rusi kane izvesti atentat na njega. U to vrijeme Zelenski je kao nerealnu odbacivao čak i ideju da će Rusi izvesti invaziju na Ukrajinu, te je sugerirao da američka upozorenja stvaraju nepotrebnu paniku. No, kad mu je čelnik vodeće obavještajne agencije predočio podatke kojima su raspolagali, promijenio je mišljenje. Bilo je posve nekonvencionalno za SAD javno otkrivanje svojih podataka, no u ovom slučaju Washington je očito bio jako siguran u ruske namjere.

“Burns je došao osobno probuditi Zelenskog”, piše Whipple, i to po nalogu samoga Joea Bidena. Direktor CIA-e rekao je ukrajinskom predsjedniku da ruske specijalne postrojbe dolaze po njega. "Zelenski je nakon razgovora bio zatečen, no i posve otriježnjen ovom viješću,” piše Whipple u knjizi koja upravo treba ugledati svjetlo dana.
Ukrajinski dužnosnici objavili su da je Zelenski od početka ruske invazije preživio ili izbjegao više od 12 atentata. Prema navodima Chrisa Whipplea, najmanje dva od tih pokušaja spriječena su zahvaljujući američkim obavještajnim podacima koje je Bill Burns podijelio s Ukrajincima za svoje predratne posjete Kijevu.

“Obavještajni podaci bili su toliko detaljni da su pomogli sigurnosnim snagama Zelenskog da spriječe dva odvojena ruska pokušaja ubojstva”, piše Whipple.
Tijekom svog tajnog putovanja u Kijev početkom 2022. Burns je s ukrajinskim dužnosnicima podijelio i "nacrt Putinova plana invazije“. Ukrajinskog prvaka je upoznao s ruskim skicama za napad na zračnu luku Antonov sjeverno od Kijeva, te ga je upozorio da se taj aerodrom namjerava koristiti kao logistička baza za daljnje napade na ukrajinsku metropolu.

Vrijeme je, nažalost, potvrdilo sve američke špijunske procjene. Rusija je za nepunih mjesec dana odista pokrenula najveći vojni sukob u Europi od Drugog svjetskog rata. SAD je i nakon toga ostao ključni partner napadnute zemlje: Kijev je od Washingtona primio na milijarde dolara vojne i druge pomoći, a nastavili su im kontinuirano pružati i vitalne obavještajne podatke za pomoć njezinim operativnim snagama na bojištima.

U siječnju 2022., kad su se ruski tenkovi već masovno nagomilali na ukrajinskoj granici, direktor CIA-e William Bill Burns krenuo je iz Washingtona na tajno putovanje u Kijev. Imao je samo jedan cilj: sa Zelenskim podijeliti vijest koja je jako iznenadila ukrajinskog prvaka - Rusi kane izvesti atentat na njega. U to vrijeme Zelenski je kao nerealnu odbacivao čak i ideju da će Rusi izvesti invaziju na Ukrajinu, te je sugerirao da američka upozorenja stvaraju nepotrebnu paniku. No, kad mu je čelnik vodeće obavještajne agencije predočio podatke kojima su raspolagali, promijenio je mišljenje. Bilo je posve nekonvencionalno za SAD javno otkrivanje svojih podataka, no u ovom slučaju Washington je očito bio jako siguran u ruske namjere.

“Burns je došao osobno probuditi Zelenskog”, piše Whipple, i to po nalogu samoga Joea Bidena. Direktor CIA-e rekao je ukrajinskom predsjedniku da ruske specijalne postrojbe dolaze po njega. "Zelenski je nakon razgovora bio zatečen, no i posve otriježnjen ovom viješću,” piše Whipple u knjizi koja upravo treba ugledati svjetlo dana.
Ukrajinski dužnosnici objavili su da je Zelenski od početka ruske invazije preživio ili izbjegao više od 12 atentata. Prema navodima Chrisa Whipplea, najmanje dva od tih pokušaja spriječena su zahvaljujući američkim obavještajnim podacima koje je Bill Burns podijelio s Ukrajincima za svoje predratne posjete Kijevu.

“Obavještajni podaci bili su toliko detaljni da su pomogli sigurnosnim snagama Zelenskog da spriječe dva odvojena ruska pokušaja ubojstva”, piše Whipple.
Tijekom svog tajnog putovanja u Kijev početkom 2022. Burns je s ukrajinskim dužnosnicima podijelio i "nacrt Putinova plana invazije“. Ukrajinskog prvaka je upoznao s ruskim skicama za napad na zračnu luku Antonov sjeverno od Kijeva, te ga je upozorio da se taj aerodrom namjerava koristiti kao logistička baza za daljnje napade na ukrajinsku metropolu.

Vrijeme je, nažalost, potvrdilo sve američke špijunske procjene. Rusija je za nepunih mjesec dana odista pokrenula najveći vojni sukob u Europi od Drugog svjetskog rata. SAD je i nakon toga ostao ključni partner napadnute zemlje: Kijev je od Washingtona primio na milijarde dolara vojne i druge pomoći, a nastavili su im kontinuirano pružati i vitalne obavještajne podatke za pomoć njezinim operativnim snagama na bojištima.
