Nemoć. Panika. Bijes.

I strah. Puno straha.

Tako se posljednja 24 sata osjećaju obitelji štićenika staračkog doma u Splitu u kojega je, kao što znamo, ušla infekcija koronavirusa. Čitaju izvještaje iz Italije. Španjolske. Slovenije. Sa strepnjom prate porazna svjedočenja o tragedijama koje su tijekom epidemije pogodile domove za starije u tim zemljama.

No nisu sve priče crne. Ima i oni sa sretnim završetkom. Onih u kojima su koronavirus uspjeli pobijediti i stariji ljudi. Oni kojima se bliži stota. Ili su je već prešišali. Oni koji su zarazu pokupili u nekom od staračkih domova. I COVID-19 preživjeli bez tragičnih posljedica.

Jedna od njih je i 90-godišnja Geneva Wood iz SAD-u. Življela je u domu za skrb za starije osobe u Seattleu. U kojemu se je polovinom veljače ušao koronavirus. Čak 62 posto štićenika se zarazilo. Geneva Wood je oboljela, a prognoze nisu bile dobre, obzirom da se upravo u to vrijeme oporavljala od moždanog udara. Prevezena je u bolnicu, gdje se stanje pogoršalo. Liječnici su obavijestili obitelj da joj se primiče kraj. U jednom trenutku čak dozvolivši njezinoj kćerki da, obučena u zaštitno odijelo, uđe u njezinu sobu i posljednji je put zagrli.

No vremešna Geneva se nije dala. Nije kraj kad liječnici kažu da je kraj. Nego kad ona kaže da je kraj. Pa je iznenada počela pokazivati znakove oporavka. A vremenom se i virus potpuno povukao, pa je puštena kući.

- Radi ono što trebaš, ne riskiraj i nastavi se boriti – recept je za pobjedu nad koronom koji je podijelila novinarima nakon što je ozdravila.

Iste je sreće bio i Willian „Bill“ Lapschies iz Oregona, vitalni „mladić“ koji je kao beba preživio španjolsku gripu, kao dječak Veliku depresiju, a kao vojnik Drugi svjetski rat. Testiran je na koronavirus nakon što je zaraza prodrla u dom za veterane „Edward C. Allworth“ u Oregonu u koji je bio smješten. Nalaz je bio pozitivan. Srećom, simptomi nisu bili jaki. Lapschies je dva tjedna imao temperaturu, ali je uspio pobijediti virus.

Taman na vrijeme da se vrati u dom i tamo proslavi svoj 104. rođendan.

Ovih dana se oporavila i Billova vršnjakinja iz Italije Ada Zanusso. Ona se u ožujku zarazila koronavirusom u staračkom domu u Bielli na sjeveru Italije. I uspješno ga preboljela, postavši i službeno najstarijom osobom koja je pobijedila koronu.

Nemoć. Panika. Bijes.

I strah. Puno straha.

Tako se posljednja 24 sata osjećaju obitelji štićenika staračkog doma u Splitu u kojega je, kao što znamo, ušla infekcija koronavirusa. Čitaju izvještaje iz Italije. Španjolske. Slovenije. Sa strepnjom prate porazna svjedočenja o tragedijama koje su tijekom epidemije pogodile domove za starije u tim zemljama.

No nisu sve priče crne. Ima i oni sa sretnim završetkom. Onih u kojima su koronavirus uspjeli pobijediti i stariji ljudi. Oni kojima se bliži stota. Ili su je već prešišali. Oni koji su zarazu pokupili u nekom od staračkih domova. I COVID-19 preživjeli bez tragičnih posljedica.

Jedna od njih je i 90-godišnja Geneva Wood iz SAD-u. Življela je u domu za skrb za starije osobe u Seattleu. U kojemu se je polovinom veljače ušao koronavirus. Čak 62 posto štićenika se zarazilo. Geneva Wood je oboljela, a prognoze nisu bile dobre, obzirom da se upravo u to vrijeme oporavljala od moždanog udara. Prevezena je u bolnicu, gdje se stanje pogoršalo. Liječnici su obavijestili obitelj da joj se primiče kraj. U jednom trenutku čak dozvolivši njezinoj kćerki da, obučena u zaštitno odijelo, uđe u njezinu sobu i posljednji je put zagrli.

No vremešna Geneva se nije dala. Nije kraj kad liječnici kažu da je kraj. Nego kad ona kaže da je kraj. Pa je iznenada počela pokazivati znakove oporavka. A vremenom se i virus potpuno povukao, pa je puštena kući.

- Radi ono što trebaš, ne riskiraj i nastavi se boriti – recept je za pobjedu nad koronom koji je podijelila novinarima nakon što je ozdravila.

Iste je sreće bio i Willian „Bill“ Lapschies iz Oregona, vitalni „mladić“ koji je kao beba preživio španjolsku gripu, kao dječak Veliku depresiju, a kao vojnik Drugi svjetski rat. Testiran je na koronavirus nakon što je zaraza prodrla u dom za veterane „Edward C. Allworth“ u Oregonu u koji je bio smješten. Nalaz je bio pozitivan. Srećom, simptomi nisu bili jaki. Lapschies je dva tjedna imao temperaturu, ali je uspio pobijediti virus.

Taman na vrijeme da se vrati u dom i tamo proslavi svoj 104. rođendan.

Ovih dana se oporavila i Billova vršnjakinja iz Italije Ada Zanusso. Ona se u ožujku zarazila koronavirusom u staračkom domu u Bielli na sjeveru Italije. I uspješno ga preboljela, postavši i službeno najstarijom osobom koja je pobijedila koronu.

Nemoć. Panika. Bijes.

I strah. Puno straha.

Tako se posljednja 24 sata osjećaju obitelji štićenika staračkog doma u Splitu u kojega je, kao što znamo, ušla infekcija koronavirusa. Čitaju izvještaje iz Italije. Španjolske. Slovenije. Sa strepnjom prate porazna svjedočenja o tragedijama koje su tijekom epidemije pogodile domove za starije u tim zemljama.

No nisu sve priče crne. Ima i oni sa sretnim završetkom. Onih u kojima su koronavirus uspjeli pobijediti i stariji ljudi. Oni kojima se bliži stota. Ili su je već prešišali. Oni koji su zarazu pokupili u nekom od staračkih domova. I COVID-19 preživjeli bez tragičnih posljedica.

Jedna od njih je i 90-godišnja Geneva Wood iz SAD-u. Življela je u domu za skrb za starije osobe u Seattleu. U kojemu se je polovinom veljače ušao ...
