Golema zdravstvena drama je samo jedna od tragičnih posljedica razornih poplava koje su ovoga ljeta potopile trećinu Pakistana i tisuće ostavile bez domova.

"Došle su poplave i kiša je padala danima. A onda su i naši mali pacijenti za njom nahrupili kao poplava", priča dr. Nazia Urooj, glavna liječnica na bolničkom odjelu hitne pomoći za djecu. Neviđena zdravstvena kriza ne stišava se ni nakon najmanje 1600 dosad izgubljenih života. Rekordne monsunske kiše i topljenje ledenjaka u sjevernim planinskim regijama Pakistana egzistencijalno su ugrozile čak 33 milijuna ljudi. Humanitarne skupine danomice upozoravaju da će se smrtnost u nadolazećim tjednima rapidno povećati ako međunarodna zajednica hitno ne djeluje.

Bujice i poplave raznijele su ljudima domove, ostavivši desetke tisuća zaglavljenih na cesti bez ikakve hrane ili čiste vode za piće. U Sindhu su najgore pogođena posve odsječena sela odakle se ne može ni do bolnica. Mnoge medicinske ustanove su pod vodom, ili im se ne može pristupiti. Prljave i zaražene poplavne vode masovno odnose sa sobom najnejakiju djecu i druge ljude oslabljenog imuniteta.
Najočajniji bolesno potomstvo nastoje spasiti prevozeći ih u malenim čamcima po najbližu pomoć ili hranu. Roditelji gacaju kroz vodu do struka i vuku za sobom svoje mališane u nepoznato. Kako se poplavna voda povlači, tako se zaredaju nove katastrofe: malarija, denga groznica, dizenterija, smrtonosni proljevi... Sirotinja umire uz cestu pod vedrim nebom ili, u boljem slučaju, ispod tankih plastičnih folija nad glavom.

Noći su mnogima besane: valja paliti stare krpe i otpad kako bi barem malo rastjerali komarce i omogućili par sati sna djeci. Komarci i odraslima prenose denga groznicu, virusnu infekciju što uzrokuje simptome slične gripi, uključujući jake glavobolje, bolove u mišićima i zglobovima, groznicu i osip. Ekstremni slučajevi mogu dovesti do krvarenja, šoka, otkazivanja organa i naposljetku smrti, a isti komarci u stanju su brzo proširiti i zika virus, ili žutu groznicu.
Pakistanska sirotinja već plaća iznimno visoku cijenu klimatskih promjena.

"Došle su poplave i kiša je padala danima. A onda su i naši mali pacijenti za njom nahrupili kao poplava", priča dr. Nazia Urooj, glavna liječnica na bolničkom odjelu hitne pomoći za djecu. Neviđena zdravstvena kriza ne stišava se ni nakon najmanje 1600 dosad izgubljenih života. Rekordne monsunske kiše i topljenje ledenjaka u sjevernim planinskim regijama Pakistana egzistencijalno su ugrozile čak 33 milijuna ljudi. Humanitarne skupine danomice upozoravaju da će se smrtnost u nadolazećim tjednima rapidno povećati ako međunarodna zajednica hitno ne djeluje.

Bujice i poplave raznijele su ljudima domove, ostavivši desetke tisuća zaglavljenih na cesti bez ikakve hrane ili čiste vode za piće. U Sindhu su najgore pogođena posve odsječena sela odakle se ne može ni do bolnica. Mnoge medicinske ustanove su pod vodom, ili im se ne može pristupiti. Prljave i zaražene poplavne vode masovno odnose sa sobom najnejakiju djecu i druge ljude oslabljenog imuniteta.
Najočajniji bolesno potomstvo nastoje spasiti prevozeći ih u malenim čamcima po najbližu pomoć ili hranu. Roditelji gacaju kroz vodu do struka i vuku za sobom svoje mališane u nepoznato. Kako se poplavna voda povlači, tako se zaredaju nove katastrofe: malarija, denga groznica, dizenterija, smrtonosni proljevi... Sirotinja umire uz cestu pod vedrim nebom ili, u boljem slučaju, ispod tankih plastičnih folija nad glavom.

Noći su mnogima besane: valja paliti stare krpe i otpad kako bi barem malo rastjerali komarce i omogućili par sati sna djeci. Komarci i odraslima prenose denga groznicu, virusnu infekciju što uzrokuje simptome slične gripi, uključujući jake glavobolje, bolove u mišićima i zglobovima, groznicu i osip. Ekstremni slučajevi mogu dovesti do krvarenja, šoka, otkazivanja organa i naposljetku smrti, a isti komarci u stanju su brzo proširiti i zika virus, ili žutu groznicu.
Pakistanska sirotinja već plaća iznimno visoku cijenu klimatskih promjena.
