Nakon ruske invazije na Ukrajinu, Beč je ponovno postao špijunska prijestolnica Europe, piše Financial Times.

Nakon što je došlo do povećanja špijunske aktivnosti, tri najveće oporbene stranke u zemlji u proljeće su zajedno podržale zakonske izmjene kako bi se špijunaža u Austriji kriminalizirala.

"Dugo ukazujemo na ovo zlostavljanje”, rekla je Stephanie Krisper, zastupnica liberalne stranke Neos koja se zalaže za zakonodavnu inicijativu za kriminaliziranje špijuniranja na austrijskom tlu. Austrija je dom nekoliko velikih međunarodnih organizacija, uključujući Međunarodnu agenciju za atomsku energiju, OPEC i razne agencije UN-a, ali je tradicionalno zatvarala oči pred tajnim obavještajnim aktivnostima na svom tlu, sve dok meta operacija nije austrijska vlada.

Od sveobuhvatne invazije Moskve u veljači 2022., europske su zemlje sa svojih teritorija izbacile više od 400 ruskih špijuna koji su se skrivali pod diplomatskim pokrićem. Do sada je Austrija protjerala samo četiri.

U Beču je još uvijek više od 180 akreditiranih ruskih diplomata, rekao je jedan viši zapadni obavještajni dužnosnik, a za najmanje trećinu njih poznato je da koriste diplomatsko pokriće za aktivnosti prikupljanja obavještajnih podataka. Mnogo više njih sada ilegalno djeluje u zemlji zahvaljujući slaboj policiji i nadzoru nad špijunažom.

“Ovo je stvarno Divlji zapad”, rekao je jedan zapadni diplomat. “Gotovo je komično koliko toga prolazi u ovoj zemlji", kaže. Kineski, iranski, izraelski i saudijski agenti također su prisutni u Austriji u velikom broju, zajedno s desecima američkih, britanskih i europskih dužnosnika koji su pod pratnjom.

Otkako je Neos predložio kriminaliziranje špijunaže "protiv strane države ili međunarodne organizacije" u Austriji, vlada je dvaput iskoristila svoj utjecaj u parlamentu kako bi suspendirala svako glasovanje o tom pitanju.

“Beč je savršeno središte za špijuniranje, i uvijek je bio”, rekao je Gustav Gressel, bivši austrijski vojni časnik, a sada viši politički suradnik u think tanku Europskog vijeća za vanjske odnose.

Krovovi svake ruske diplomatske zgrade i kompleksa u Beču prekriveni su radarima, kupolama i čudnim "šupama", od kojih su neke izgrađene tek u posljednjih nekoliko mjeseci, za koje stručnjaci kažu da gotovo sigurno sadrže tehnologiju elektroničkog nadzora.

"Čini se da je jedna od glavnih funkcija ruske obavještajne službe u Beču prikupljanje obavještajnih podataka u razmjeru koji je operaciju uzdigao u najvažniju od cijele mreže u Europi, rekao je Thomas Riegler, austrijski povjesničar i politolog.

Nakon ruske invazije na Ukrajinu, Beč je ponovno postao špijunska prijestolnica Europe, piše Financial Times.

Nakon što je došlo do povećanja špijunske aktivnosti, tri najveće oporbene stranke u zemlji u proljeće su zajedno podržale zakonske izmjene kako bi se špijunaža u Austriji kriminalizirala.

"Dugo ukazujemo na ovo zlostavljanje”, rekla je Stephanie Krisper, zastupnica liberalne stranke Neos koja se zalaže za zakonodavnu inicijativu za kriminaliziranje špijuniranja na austrijskom tlu. Austrija je dom nekoliko velikih međunarodnih organizacija, uključujući Međunarodnu agenciju za atomsku energiju, OPEC i razne agencije UN-a, ali je tradicionalno zatvarala oči pred tajnim obavještajnim aktivnostima na svom tlu, sve dok meta operacija nije austrijska vlada.

Od sveobuhvatne invazije Moskve u veljači 2022., europske su zemlje sa svojih teritorija izbacile više od 400 ruskih špijuna koji su se skrivali pod diplomatskim pokrićem. Do sada je Austrija protjerala samo četiri.

U Beču je još uvijek više od 180 akreditiranih ruskih diplomata, rekao je jedan viši zapadni obavještajni dužnosnik, a za najmanje trećinu njih poznato je da koriste diplomatsko pokriće za aktivnosti prikupljanja obavještajnih podataka. Mnogo više njih sada ilegalno djeluje u zemlji zahvaljujući slaboj policiji i nadzoru nad špijunažom.

“Ovo je stvarno Divlji zapad”, rekao je jedan zapadni diplomat. “Gotovo je komično koliko toga prolazi u ovoj zemlji", kaže. Kineski, iranski, izraelski i saudijski agenti također su prisutni u Austriji u velikom broju, zajedno s desecima američkih, britanskih i europskih dužnosnika koji su pod pratnjom.

Otkako je Neos predložio kriminaliziranje špijunaže "protiv strane države ili međunarodne organizacije" u Austriji, vlada je dvaput iskoristila svoj utjecaj u parlamentu kako bi suspendirala svako glasovanje o tom pitanju.

“Beč je savršeno središte za špijuniranje, i uvijek je bio”, rekao je Gustav Gressel, bivši austrijski vojni časnik, a sada viši politički suradnik u think tanku Europskog vijeća za vanjske odnose.

Krovovi svake ruske diplomatske zgrade i kompleksa u Beču prekriveni su radarima, kupolama i čudnim "šupama", od kojih su neke izgrađene tek u posljednjih nekoliko mjeseci, za koje stručnjaci kažu da gotovo sigurno sadrže tehnologiju elektroničkog nadzora.

"Čini se da je jedna od glavnih funkcija ruske obavještajne službe u Beču prikupljanje obavještajnih podataka u razmjeru koji je operaciju uzdigao u najvažniju od cijele mreže u Europi, rekao je Thomas Riegler, austrijski povjesničar i politolog.

Nakon ruske invazije na Ukrajinu, Beč je ponovno postao špijunska prijestolnica Europe, piše Financial Times.

Nakon što je došlo do povećanja špijunske aktivnosti, tri najveće oporbene stranke u zemlji u proljeće su zajedno podržale zakonske izmjene kako bi se špijunaža u Austriji kriminalizirala.

"Dugo ukazujemo na ovo zlostavljanje”, rekla je Stephanie Krisper, zastupnica liberalne stranke Neos koja se zalaže za zakonodavnu inicijativu za kriminaliziranje špijuniranja na austrijskom tlu. Austrija je dom nekoliko velikih međunarodnih organizacija, uključujući Međunarodnu agenciju za atomsku energiju, OPEC i razne agencije UN-a, ali je tradicionalno zatvarala oči pred tajnim obavještajnim aktivnostima na svom tlu, sve dok meta operacija nije austrijska vlada.

Od sveobuhvatne invazije Moskve u veljači 2022., europske su zemlje sa svojih teritorija izbacile više od 400 ruskih špijuna koji su se skrivali pod diplomatskim pokrićem. Do sada je Austrija protjerala samo četiri.

U Beču je još uvijek više od 180 akreditiranih ruskih diplomata, rekao je jedan viši zapadni obavještajni dužnosnik, a za najmanje trećinu njih poznato je da koriste diplomatsko pokriće za aktivnosti prikupljanja obavještajnih podataka. Mnogo više njih sada ilegalno djeluje u zemlji zahvaljujući slaboj policiji i nadzoru nad špijunažom.

“Ovo je stvarno Divlji zapad”, rekao je jedan zapadni diplomat. “Gotovo je komično koliko toga prolazi u ovoj zemlji", kaže. Kineski, iranski, izraelski i saudijski agenti također su prisutni u Austriji u velikom broju, zajedno s desecima američkih, britanskih i europskih dužnosnika koji su pod pratnjom.
