| Ivan Gašparovič i Ivo Sanader |
Favorit je dosadašnji predsjednik, 67-godišnji pravnik Ivan Gašparovič, koji je na tu dužnost izabran prije pet godina. Tada je pobijedio dosta neočekivano – ušao je u drugi krug, a onda je većina Slovaka glasovala za nj kao za “manje zlo“ u odnosu na Vladimira Mečijara, bivšeg premijera. Ima mišljenja da bi Gašparovič, koji je “dobar“ s vladajućom koalicijom, mogao ovaj put pobijediti još u prvom krugu, 25. ožujka.
U drugom krugu bi mu ozbiljan protivnik mogla biti Iveta Radičova, bivša ministrica rada i potpredsjednica oporbene Slovačke demokratsko-kršćanske unije (SDKU), kojoj bi onda vjerojatno dali glasove svi oporbeno raspoloženi glasači. Ona je već krenula u izbornu kampanju i unijela u nju veliku novinu: prvi put se jedan slovački kandidat obraća pripadnicima mađarske nacionalne manjine (ima ih oko 600 tisuća) na njihovu (mađarskom) jeziku.
Gašparovič, koji za sebe voli kazati da je arhitekt nezavisne Slovačke, bio je nekad, kao dugogodišnji predsjednik parlamenta, desna ruka Vladimira Mečijara, od kojega se odvojio među posljednjima od njegovih bliskih suradnika.
Prije nešto više od pet godina Gašparovič se ispričao za grješke iz toga doba. Poznato je da je Ivan Gašparovič hrvatskog podrijetla. Njegov djed Tomo Gašparovič bio je hrvatski iseljenik iz sela Triblja pokraj Crikvenice, koji se doselio 1920. u Bratislavu (Požun, Pressburg).
Tu je radio kao umjetnički tesar, uredio je enterijere mnogih domova u glavnom gradu Slovačke. Njegov unuk rado i često, službeno i privatno, dolazi u Hrvatsku.

Favorit je dosadašnji predsjednik, 67-godišnji pravnik Ivan Gašparovič, koji je na tu dužnost izabran prije pet godina. Tada je pobijedio dosta neočekivano – ušao je u drugi krug, a onda je većina Slovaka glasovala za nj kao za “manje zlo“ u odnosu na Vladimira Mečijara, bivšeg premijera. Ima mišljenja da bi Gašparovič, koji je “dobar“ s vladajućom koalicijom, mogao ovaj put pobijediti još u prvom krugu, 25. ožujka.
U drugom krugu bi mu ozbiljan protivnik mogla biti Iveta Radičova, bivša ministrica rada i potpredsjednica oporbene Slovačke demokratsko-kršćanske unije (SDKU), kojoj bi onda vjerojatno dali glasove svi oporbeno raspoloženi glasači. Ona je već krenula u izbornu kampanju i unijela u nju veliku novinu: prvi put se jedan slovački kandidat obraća pripadnicima mađarske nacionalne manjine (ima ih oko 600 tisuća) na njihovu (mađarskom) jeziku.
Gašparovič, koji za sebe voli kazati da je arhitekt nezavisne Slovačke, bio je nekad, kao dugogodišnji predsjednik parlamenta, desna ruka Vladimira Mečijara, od kojega se odvojio među posljednjima od njegovih bliskih suradnika.
Prije nešto više od pet godina Gašparovič se ispričao za grješke iz toga doba. Poznato je da je Ivan Gašparovič hrvatskog podrijetla. Njegov djed Tomo Gašparovič bio je hrvatski iseljenik iz sela Triblja pokraj Crikvenice, koji se doselio 1920. u Bratislavu (Požun, Pressburg).
Tu je radio kao umjetnički tesar, uredio je enterijere mnogih domova u glavnom gradu Slovačke. Njegov unuk rado i često, službeno i privatno, dolazi u Hrvatsku.
