Američka vojska uništila je svoje posljednje zalihe kemijskog oružja, objavio je predsjednik Joe Biden, nekoliko sati nakon što je obznanio da je Ukrajinu odlučio poslati kontroverzno kasetno streljivo, zabranjeno u više od 120 zemalja. 

"Danas s ponosom objavljujem da su Sjedinjene Države sigurno uništile svoje posljednje zalihe kemijskog oružja i dovele nas korak bliže svijetu slobodnom od tog užasa", kazao je Biden u pisanoj izjavi. 

Sjedinjene Države potpisnice su Konvencije o zabrani kemijskog oružja, koju je Senat ratificirao 1997. godine, po kojoj sve potpisnice trebaju uništiti zalihe kemijskog oružja do 30. rujna ove godine. 

Amerikanci su godinama uništavali svoje preostale zalihe kemijskog oružja u vojnim skladištima u Pueblu, u Coloradu, i u Richmondu u Kentuckyju. 

Godine 2022. posljednja raketa M55 s nervnim otrovom VX uništena je u tvornici u Kentuckyju.

Sjedinjene Države imale su prije pedesetak godina 40.000 tona kemijskog oružja. 

"Kemijsko oružje odgovorno je za neke od najužasnijih epizoda gubitaka ljudskih života. Iako će uporaba tog smrtonosnog oružja uvijek biti mrlja u povijesti, danas je naša nacija konačno ispunila svoje obećanje da će osloboditi svoj arsenal od tog zla", rekao je republikanski čelnik Mitch McConnell. 

Kemijsko oružje počelo se koristiti u Prvom svjetskom ratu, koji su zbog toga neki nazivali i "ratom kemičara".

Po podacima UN-a, kemijsko oružje usmrtilo je 100.000 ljudi u Prvom svjetskom ratu i uzrokovalo još milijun žrtava u svijetu od tada. 

Biden je svega nekoliko sati prije objavio da SAD u Ukrajinu šalje kontroverzno kasetno streljivo, koje je zbog neselektivnog ubijanja zabranjena u mnogim zemljama, naročito europskim. 

"Bila mi je to vrlo teška odluka", kazao je Biden u razgovoru za CNN. "Trebalo me dugo uvjeravati da to učinim", rekao je pravdajući se da je tako odlučio jer je Ukrajini ponestalo streljiva. 

Ukrajinci su, rekao je Bidenov savjetnik za nacionalnu sigurnost, pismeno zajamčili da će kasetno streljivo koristiti samo za obranu i smanjiti maksimalno rizik za civile. 

Kasetno streljivo raspršuje ili oslobađa male eksplozivne naboje dizajnirane da eksplodiraju prije, tijekom ili nakon udara. Mnoge su zemlje zabranile njegovu upotrebu i proizvodnju prema Konvenciji iz Osla iz 2008., ali potpisnice toga dokumenta nisu ni Sjedinjene Države ni Ukrajina.

Streljivo je kontroverzno i jer neeksplodirani "zvončići" mogu ostati na tlu godinama i kasnije možda detonirati.

Organizacije za ljudska prava Human Rights Watch i Amnesty International izrazile su negodovanje američkom odlukom i priopćile da to može samo povećati broj civilnih žrtava. 

Glavni tajnik NATO-a Jens Stoltenberg istaknuo je, pak, da i Rusija i Ukrajina koriste to oružje, ali ga Moskva koristi "u svom brutalnom ratu protiv Ukrajine, a Ukrajina za obranu".

Američka vojska uništila je svoje posljednje zalihe kemijskog oružja, objavio je predsjednik Joe Biden, nekoliko sati nakon što je obznanio da je Ukrajinu odlučio poslati kontroverzno kasetno streljivo, zabranjeno u više od 120 zemalja. 

"Danas s ponosom objavljujem da su Sjedinjene Države sigurno uništile svoje posljednje zalihe kemijskog oružja i dovele nas korak bliže svijetu slobodnom od tog užasa", kazao je Biden u pisanoj izjavi. 

Sjedinjene Države potpisnice su Konvencije o zabrani kemijskog oružja, koju je Senat ratificirao 1997. godine, po kojoj sve potpisnice trebaju uništiti zalihe kemijskog oružja do 30. rujna ove godine. 

Amerikanci su godinama uništavali svoje preostale zalihe kemijskog oružja u vojnim skladištima u Pueblu, u Coloradu, i u Richmondu u Kentuckyju. 

Godine 2022. posljednja raketa M55 s nervnim otrovom VX uništena je u tvornici u Kentuckyju.

Sjedinjene Države imale su prije pedesetak godina 40.000 tona kemijskog oružja. 

"Kemijsko oružje odgovorno je za neke od najužasnijih epizoda gubitaka ljudskih života. Iako će uporaba tog smrtonosnog oružja uvijek biti mrlja u povijesti, danas je naša nacija konačno ispunila svoje obećanje da će osloboditi svoj arsenal od tog zla", rekao je republikanski čelnik Mitch McConnell. 

Kemijsko oružje počelo se koristiti u Prvom svjetskom ratu, koji su zbog toga neki nazivali i "ratom kemičara".

Po podacima UN-a, kemijsko oružje usmrtilo je 100.000 ljudi u Prvom svjetskom ratu i uzrokovalo još milijun žrtava u svijetu od tada. 

Biden je svega nekoliko sati prije objavio da SAD u Ukrajinu šalje kontroverzno kasetno streljivo, koje je zbog neselektivnog ubijanja zabranjena u mnogim zemljama, naročito europskim. 

"Bila mi je to vrlo teška odluka", kazao je Biden u razgovoru za CNN. "Trebalo me dugo uvjeravati da to učinim", rekao je pravdajući se da je tako odlučio jer je Ukrajini ponestalo streljiva. 

Ukrajinci su, rekao je Bidenov savjetnik za nacionalnu sigurnost, pismeno zajamčili da će kasetno streljivo koristiti samo za obranu i smanjiti maksimalno rizik za civile. 

Kasetno streljivo raspršuje ili oslobađa male eksplozivne naboje dizajnirane da eksplodiraju prije, tijekom ili nakon udara. Mnoge su zemlje zabranile njegovu upotrebu i proizvodnju prema Konvenciji iz Osla iz 2008., ali potpisnice toga dokumenta nisu ni Sjedinjene Države ni Ukrajina.

Streljivo je kontroverzno i jer neeksplodirani "zvončići" mogu ostati na tlu godinama i kasnije možda detonirati.

Organizacije za ljudska prava Human Rights Watch i Amnesty International izrazile su negodovanje američkom odlukom i priopćile da to može samo povećati broj civilnih žrtava. 

Glavni tajnik NATO-a Jens Stoltenberg istaknuo je, pak, da i Rusija i Ukrajina koriste to oružje, ali ga Moskva koristi "u svom brutalnom ratu protiv Ukrajine, a Ukrajina za obranu".

Američka vojska uništila je svoje posljednje zalihe kemijskog oružja, objavio je predsjednik Joe Biden, nekoliko sati nakon što je obznanio da je Ukrajinu odlučio poslati kontroverzno kasetno streljivo, zabranjeno u više od 120 zemalja.
