Učiteljica iz Slovenije Alenka Čurin Janžekovič preminula je 13. ožujka u Švicarskoj uz pomoć eutanazije za čiju se legalizaciju u Sloveniji zalagala godinama.

"Popila je gorko piće, a zatim uzela još jednu čokoladicu", opisao je Alenkine posljednje trenutke suprug Marijan u razgovoru za Slovenske novice. Svojoj supruzi je obećao da će se zauvijek nastaviti boriti za legalizaciju eutanazije.

Alenka je rođena 6. srpnja 1957. u Mariboru. Bolovala je od Morquiova sindroma, nasljedne metaboličke bolesti. Zbog pomanjkanja enzima njezine kosti i hrskavice pomalo su se raspadale. U životu je prošla više od deset operacija, tijelo joj je gotovo bilo potpuno ukočeno te se kretala uz pomoć štaka. Od te neizlječive bolesti obolijeva jedna osoba na sto tisuća.

Prije četiri goodine razgovarala je s novinarima Večernjeg lista i poručila kako je donijela odluku i kako se ne boji.

- Konačnu sam odluku donijela kad sam trpjela velike bolove, a znam da će biti sve gore i gore – rekla je novinarima kada su su je posjetili u kući u slovenskom selu Zagorju, gdje je živjela sa suprugom Marijanom

- Volim svoj život. Sve bih još jednom ponovila. No, ne želim umirati na rate, među tuđim ljudima. Zato sam izabrala vas da mi u tome pomognete”. To je 61-godišnja umirovljena učiteljica Alenka navela u pismu švicarskoj organizaciji Dignitas pokraj Züricha, kojoj se javila sa zahtjevom da joj se omogući eutanazija koja je u toj državi legalna.

Trošak registracije u švicarskoj tvrtki je tada iznosio 200 švicarskih franaka, a godišnja članarina 90 franaka. Uvjeti za članstvo su neizlječiva bolest u terminalnoj fazi ili bolest koja se pogoršava i neizostavno vodi u smrt. Mogu se prijaviti i oni koje trpe neizdržive bolove koji se ne mogu olakšati i oni s trajnim invaliditetom. Uz molbu šalje se i liječnička dokumentacija. Cijeli postupak okvirno stoji oko 10.790 franaka.

Alenka se godinama borila da se eutanazija legalizira i u Sloveniji. Objavila je i knjigu "Sam bog naj jo bere" u kojoj je opisala borbu s bolešću.

Nakladnička kuća Založba 5KA objavila je da se Marijan iz Švicarske vratio sam, slomljen, ali pun ljubavi. U Švicarskoj se, rekao je, od supruge oprostio samo fizički, a duhovno će ostati povezani sve do njegovih posljednjih sati. Zajedno su proveli 40 godina.

- Alenka je otišla među zvijezde i sad od tamo bdije nada mnom - rekao je Marijan.

O kakvoj bolesti se radi?

Morquiov sindrom , također poznat kao mukopolisaharidoza tipa IV (MPS IV) , rijedak je metabolički poremećaj u kojem tijelo ne može obraditi određene vrste molekula šećera koje se nazivaju glikozaminoglikani (AKA GAG-ovi ili mukopolisaharidi). U Morquiovom sindromu, specifični GAG koji se nakuplja u tijelu naziva se keratan sulfat . Ova urođena mana, koja je autosomno recesivna , vrsta je lizosomskog poremećaja skladištenja . Nakupljanje GAG-a u različitim dijelovima tijela uzrokuje simptome u mnogim različitim organskim sustavima. U SAD-u se stopa učestalosti Morquiovog sindroma procjenjuje na između 1 na 200 000 i 1 na 300 000 živorođene djece. 

Bolesnici s Morquiovim sindromom pri rođenju izgledaju zdravi. Tipovi A i B imaju slične prezentacije, ali tip B općenito ima blaže simptome. Dob početka je obično između 1. i 3. godine. Morquiov sindrom uzrokuje progresivne promjene na kosturu rebara i prsnog koša, što može dovesti do neuroloških komplikacija kao što je kompresija živaca. Pacijenti također mogu imati gubitak sluha i zamućenu rožnicu. Inteligencija je obično normalna osim ako pacijent nema neliječeni hidrocefalus.

Tjelesni rast usporava se i često zaustavlja oko 8. godine života. Abnormalnosti kostura uključuju prsa u obliku zvona, spljoštenost ili zakrivljenost kralježnice, skraćene duge kosti i displaziju kukova, koljena, gležnjeva i zapešća. Kosti koje stabiliziraju vezu između glave i vrata mogu biti deformirane (odontoidna hipoplazija); u tim slučajevima kirurški zahvat koji se zove spinalna fuzija vratne kosti može spasiti život. Ograničeno disanje, ukočenost zglobova i bolesti srca također su česti. Djeca s težim oblikom MPS IV možda neće živjeti dalje od svojih dvadesetih ili tridesetih godina.

Neki dodatni znakovi i simptomi Morquiovog sindroma uključuju nizak rast, skoliozu , kifozu , hipermobilne zglobove, klecanja u koljenima , pectus carinatum , izobličene udove, nestabilne kralješke, kompresiju pupčane moždine, hepatomegaliju , probleme sa sluhom, vidom i srce. 

Morquiov sindrom nasljeđuje se iz autosomno recesivno naslijeđenog gena. Svaka osoba ima dvije kopije gena potrebne za razgradnju keratan sulfata, ali potrebna je samo jedna zdrava kopija. Oba roditelja prenose jednu neispravnu kopiju svom djetetu, što rezultira djetetom bez funkcionalnih kopija gena. Kao takvo, tijelo nije u stanju razgraditi keratan sulfat za odlaganje. Nepotpuno razgrađeni GAG ostaju pohranjeni u stanicama u tijelu, uzrokujući progresivno oštećenje. Bebe mogu pokazivati ​​malo znakova bolesti, ali kako se sve više i više stanica oštećuje, simptomi se počinju pojavljivati.

Ovaj sindrom ima dva oblika, A i B, koji se nazivaju Morquio A i Morquio B sindrom ili MPS IVA i MPS IVB. Ova se dva oblika razlikuju po uključenom genskom produktu; Tip A uključuje neispravnost gena GALNS , dok tip B uključuje neispravnost gena GLB1.

Učiteljica iz Slovenije Alenka Čurin Janžekovič preminula je 13. ožujka u Švicarskoj uz pomoć eutanazije za čiju se legalizaciju u Sloveniji zalagala godinama.

"Popila je gorko piće, a zatim uzela još jednu čokoladicu", opisao je Alenkine posljednje trenutke suprug Marijan u razgovoru za Slovenske novice. Svojoj supruzi je obećao da će se zauvijek nastaviti boriti za legalizaciju eutanazije.

Alenka je rođena 6. srpnja 1957. u Mariboru. Bolovala je od Morquiova sindroma, nasljedne metaboličke bolesti. Zbog pomanjkanja enzima njezine kosti i hrskavice pomalo su se raspadale. U životu je prošla više od deset operacija, tijelo joj je gotovo bilo potpuno ukočeno te se kretala uz pomoć štaka. Od te neizlječive bolesti obolijeva jedna osoba na sto tisuća.

Prije četiri goodine razgovarala je s novinarima Večernjeg lista i poručila kako je donijela odluku i kako se ne boji.

- Konačnu sam odluku donijela kad sam trpjela velike bolove, a znam da će biti sve gore i gore – rekla je novinarima kada su su je posjetili u kući u slovenskom selu Zagorju, gdje je živjela sa suprugom Marijanom

- Volim svoj život. Sve bih još jednom ponovila. No, ne želim umirati na rate, među tuđim ljudima. Zato sam izabrala vas da mi u tome pomognete”. To je 61-godišnja umirovljena učiteljica Alenka navela u pismu švicarskoj organizaciji Dignitas pokraj Züricha, kojoj se javila sa zahtjevom da joj se omogući eutanazija koja je u toj državi legalna.

Trošak registracije u švicarskoj tvrtki je tada iznosio 200 švicarskih franaka, a godišnja članarina 90 franaka. Uvjeti za članstvo su neizlječiva bolest u terminalnoj fazi ili bolest koja se pogoršava i neizostavno vodi u smrt. Mogu se prijaviti i oni koje trpe neizdržive bolove koji se ne mogu olakšati i oni s trajnim invaliditetom. Uz molbu šalje se i liječnička dokumentacija. Cijeli postupak okvirno stoji oko 10.790 franaka.

Alenka se godinama borila da se eutanazija legalizira i u Sloveniji. Objavila je i knjigu "Sam bog naj jo bere" u kojoj je opisala borbu s bolešću.

Nakladnička kuća Založba 5KA objavila je da se Marijan iz Švicarske vratio sam, slomljen, ali pun ljubavi. U Švicarskoj se, rekao je, od supruge oprostio samo fizički, a duhovno će ostati povezani sve do njegovih posljednjih sati. Zajedno su proveli 40 godina.

- Alenka je otišla među zvijezde i sad od tamo bdije nada mnom - rekao je Marijan.

O kakvoj bolesti se radi?

Morquiov sindrom , također poznat kao mukopolisaharidoza tipa IV (MPS IV) , rijedak je metabolički poremećaj u kojem tijelo ne može obraditi određene vrste molekula šećera koje se nazivaju glikozaminoglikani (AKA GAG-ovi ili mukopolisaharidi). U Morquiovom sindromu, specifični GAG koji se nakuplja u tijelu naziva se keratan sulfat . Ova urođena mana, koja je autosomno recesivna , vrsta je lizosomskog poremećaja skladištenja . Nakupljanje GAG-a u različitim dijelovima tijela uzrokuje simptome u mnogim različitim organskim sustavima. U SAD-u se stopa učestalosti Morquiovog sindroma procjenjuje na između 1 na 200 000 i 1 na 300 000 živorođene djece. 

Bolesnici s Morquiovim sindromom pri rođenju izgledaju zdravi. Tipovi A i B imaju slične prezentacije, ali tip B općenito ima blaže simptome. Dob početka je obično između 1. i 3. godine. Morquiov sindrom uzrokuje progresivne promjene na kosturu rebara i prsnog koša, što može dovesti do neuroloških komplikacija kao što je kompresija živaca. Pacijenti također mogu imati gubitak sluha i zamućenu rožnicu. Inteligencija je obično normalna osim ako pacijent nema neliječeni hidrocefalus.

Tjelesni rast usporava se i često zaustavlja oko 8. godine života. Abnormalnosti kostura uključuju prsa u obliku zvona, spljoštenost ili zakrivljenost kralježnice, skraćene duge kosti i displaziju kukova, koljena, gležnjeva i zapešća. Kosti koje stabiliziraju vezu između glave i vrata mogu biti deformirane (odontoidna hipoplazija); u tim slučajevima kirurški zahvat koji se zove spinalna fuzija vratne kosti može spasiti život. Ograničeno disanje, ukočenost zglobova i bolesti srca također su česti. Djeca s težim oblikom MPS IV možda neće živjeti dalje od svojih dvadesetih ili tridesetih godina.

Neki dodatni znakovi i simptomi Morquiovog sindroma uključuju nizak rast, skoliozu , kifozu , hipermobilne zglobove, klecanja u koljenima , pectus carinatum , izobličene udove, nestabilne kralješke, kompresiju pupčane moždine, hepatomegaliju , probleme sa sluhom, vidom i srce. 

Morquiov sindrom nasljeđuje se iz autosomno recesivno naslijeđenog gena. Svaka osoba ima dvije kopije gena potrebne za razgradnju keratan sulfata, ali potrebna je samo jedna zdrava kopija. Oba roditelja prenose jednu neispravnu kopiju svom djetetu, što rezultira djetetom bez funkcionalnih kopija gena. Kao takvo, tijelo nije u stanju razgraditi keratan sulfat za odlaganje. Nepotpuno razgrađeni GAG ostaju pohranjeni u stanicama u tijelu, uzrokujući progresivno oštećenje. Bebe mogu pokazivati ​​malo znakova bolesti, ali kako se sve više i više stanica oštećuje, simptomi se počinju pojavljivati.

Ovaj sindrom ima dva oblika, A i B, koji se nazivaju Morquio A i Morquio B sindrom ili MPS IVA i MPS IVB. Ova se dva oblika razlikuju po uključenom genskom produktu; Tip A uključuje neispravnost gena GALNS , dok tip B uključuje neispravnost gena GLB1.
