Ljudski život je neprocjenjiv, tvrde neki. Pretpostavljam da oni nisu bili u Bahmutu. Kao što svi znamo, ovaj gradić na istoku Ukrajine ruske su snage deset mjeseci opsjedale i zauzele ga tek nakon stravičnih gubitaka. Krvavo su ga platile. Očevici kažu kako su službeni ruski vojnici i, još više, plaćenici iz grupe Wagner u bezbrojnim nasrtajima na rovove ukrajinskih branitelja grada padali kao snoplje.

---Točna se brojka poginulih ne zna, možda nikad nećemo ni znati koliko je veliko bilo anonimno mravlje mnoštvo nesretnika koje je Jevgenij Prigožin mobilizirao u ruskim kaznionicama, ali lako bi moglo biti da ljudski život u nekom trenutku nije bio vredniji od dva, tri eura, za koliko se prodaje četvorni metar oranice u Donjeckoj oblasti.
Ali, gledajte kako je to relativno, kako cijena života od zemlje do zemlje raste i pada u vrtoglavim, strmim krivuljama, hirovitije od cijene nafte po barelu. Dok su ruski plaćenici bezobzirno tjerani u smrt i umirali u stotinama, kao žohari zgaženi potplatima, u našim krajevima, u Hercegovini neka se 62-godišnjakinja iz Zagreba išla verati uz okomitu, gotovo glatku, četiri stotine visoku liticu na planini Velež. Ona se okliznula na jedan kamen, otkinula se i pala nekoliko metara niže. Konopac za koji je bila vezana zaustavio je, srećom, da se smrtonosno ne surva sve do podnožja, ali manju štetu je ipak otrpjela. Ozlijedila je nogu i rebra i više nije mogla ni gore ni dolje, a nisu joj mogli pomoći ni kolege planinari.
Došli su uskoro požrtvovni i odvažni volonteri iz Gorske službe spašavanja, više od stotinu njih. Došao je helikopter snaga Europske Unije i još jedan iz Republike Srpske, vjerojatno onaj kojim je Milorad Dodik sletio na rođendansko slavlje Dragana Čovića. Ali, zbog izrazito nepristupačnog terena više od dvadeset pokušaja bilo je uzaludno. Dvanaest sati je prošlo, a unesrećena je i dalje ječala na stijeni, i tek je u jedan iza ponoći, nakon jednog nečuveno vještog i rizičnog pilotskog manevra, spašena.
Ona je, treba li uopće naglašavati, amaterka, hobistica. Penje se po planinama za razonodu. Nema toj aktivnosti baš nikakve koristi ni koga. Istina, žena je vitka i za svoju dob u senzacionalnoj formi, ali bezbroj je bezopasnijih načina da se to postigne. Ne bi mnogo manje kalorija izgubila da je trčala oko Jaruna, da je skakutala na lopti za pilates, plesala oko šipke ili se na Velež popela uređenom planinarskom stazom, sve berući cvijeće, blagim usponom s druge strane. Ukratko, ono što je ona napravila je obijest, upravo slaboumno neodgovorna pustolovina jedne gospođe pred penzijom.
Kad god se netko u šezdeset drugoj, muškarac ili žena, svejedno, uputi penjati uz četiri stotine metara visoku liticu, to treba, da se ne lažemo, računati kao pokušaj samoubojstva. Kad joj se konopac otkinuo, iskusila je neljudski užas kakav rijetki od nas iskuse. Ali, ne zaboravite, to se u ekstremnim sportovima smatra nagradom. Kad se free climberi, letači zmajeva i skakači s mostova useru od straha, to je trenutak koji ništa ne može nadmašiti, trenutak u kojemu se, po vlastitim riječima, oni najviše osjećaju živima. Tako je i ova na Veležu dobila navalu adrenalina za kojom je žudjela. I zapravo je opravdano upitati zašto su je spašavali? Pogotovo kad pogledate koliko je to koštalo.
Kad sve zbrojite, dvanaest sati rada više od stotinu mladih i snažnih planinara, i rad liječnika i bolničara koji su dolje čekali kraj ambulantnih kola, i rad pilota helikoptera koji su u beskraj vitlali elisama oko litice, potrošilo se valjda dvije stotine tisuća eura samo da bi se spasila jedna gospođa pred penzijom koja je tragično pogriješila u izboru hobija. Kad kažete da je ljudski život neprocjenjiv, ne razmišljate o slučajevima poput ovoga. Ovo na Veležu je baš bilo skupo. Tako veliki novac je veliko moralno iskušenje. Dođete u napast da pomislite da je unesrećenu trebalo ostaviti na litici. Može vam se činiti da život ne vrijedi toliko, ali, pazite, pođete li na tu stranu, lako biste se mogli pretvoriti u čudovište poput Jevgenija Prigožina.

Dok su ruski plaćenici bezobzirno tjerani u smrt i umirali u stotinama, kao žohari zgaženi potplatima, u našim krajevima, u Hercegovini neka se 62-godišnjakinja iz Zagreba išla verati uz okomitu, gotovo glatku, četiri stotine visoku liticu na planini Velež. Ona se okliznula na jedan kamen, otkinula se i pala nekoliko metara niže. Konopac za koji je bila vezana zaustavio je, srećom, da se smrtonosno ne surva sve do podnožja, ali manju štetu je ipak otrpjela. Ozlijedila je nogu i rebra i više nije mogla ni gore ni dolje, a nisu joj mogli pomoći ni kolege planinari.
Došli su uskoro požrtvovni i odvažni volonteri iz Gorske službe spašavanja, više od stotinu njih. Došao je helikopter snaga Europske Unije i još jedan iz Republike Srpske, vjerojatno onaj kojim je Milorad Dodik sletio na rođendansko slavlje Dragana Čovića. Ali, zbog izrazito nepristupačnog terena više od dvadeset pokušaja bilo je uzaludno. Dvanaest sati je prošlo, a unesrećena je i dalje ječala na stijeni, i tek je u jedan iza ponoći, nakon jednog nečuveno vještog i rizičnog pilotskog manevra, spašena.
Ona je, treba li uopće naglašavati, amaterka, hobistica. Penje se po planinama za razonodu. Nema toj aktivnosti baš nikakve koristi ni koga. Istina, žena je vitka i za svoju dob u senzacionalnoj formi, ali bezbroj je bezopasnijih načina da se to postigne. Ne bi mnogo manje kalorija izgubila da je trčala oko Jaruna, da je skakutala na lopti za pilates, plesala oko šipke ili se na Velež popela uređenom planinarskom stazom, sve berući cvijeće, blagim usponom s druge strane. Ukratko, ono što je ona napravila je obijest, upravo slaboumno neodgovorna pustolovina jedne gospođe pred penzijom.
Kad god se netko u šezdeset drugoj, muškarac ili žena, svejedno, uputi penjati uz četiri stotine metara visoku liticu, to treba, da se ne lažemo, računati kao pokušaj samoubojstva. Kad joj se konopac otkinuo, iskusila je neljudski užas kakav rijetki od nas iskuse. Ali, ne zaboravite, to se u ekstremnim sportovima smatra nagradom. Kad se free climberi, letači zmajeva i skakači s mostova useru od straha, to je trenutak koji ništa ne može nadmašiti, trenutak u kojemu se, po vlastitim riječima, oni najviše osjećaju živima. Tako je i ova na Veležu dobila navalu adrenalina za kojom je žudjela. I zapravo je opravdano upitati zašto su je spašavali? Pogotovo kad pogledate koliko je to koštalo.
Kad sve zbrojite, dvanaest sati rada više od stotinu mladih i snažnih planinara, i rad liječnika i bolničara koji su dolje čekali kraj ambulantnih kola, i rad pilota helikoptera koji su u beskraj vitlali elisama oko litice, potrošilo se valjda dvije stotine tisuća eura samo da bi se spasila jedna gospođa pred penzijom koja je tragično pogriješila u izboru hobija. Kad kažete da je ljudski život neprocjenjiv, ne razmišljate o slučajevima poput ovoga. Ovo na Veležu je baš bilo skupo. Tako veliki novac je veliko moralno iskušenje. Dođete u napast da pomislite da je unesrećenu trebalo ostaviti na litici. Može vam se činiti da život ne vrijedi toliko, ali, pazite, pođete li na tu stranu, lako biste se mogli pretvoriti u čudovište poput Jevgenija Prigožina.

Ljudski život je neprocjenjiv, tvrde neki. Pretpostavljam da oni nisu bili u Bahmutu. Kao što svi znamo, ovaj gradić na istoku Ukrajine ruske su snage deset mjeseci opsjedale i zauzele ga tek nakon stravičnih gubitaka. Krvavo su ga platile. Očevici kažu kako su službeni ruski vojnici i, još više, plaćenici iz grupe Wagner u bezbrojnim nasrtajima na rovove ukrajinskih branitelja grada padali kao snoplje.
