Ukrajinka Elina Svitolina i Čehinja Marketa Vondroušova izborile su plasman u polufinale Wimbledona, trećeg teniskog Grand Slam turnira sezone.
Svitolina je u četvrtfinalu porazila prvu tenisačicu svijeta Poljakinju Igu Swiatek sa 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-2, dok je Čehinja Marketa Vondroušova pobijedila Amerikanku Jessicu Pegulu sa 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
Većina stručnjaka je u polufinalu vidjela prvu i četvrtu tenisačicu svijeta, Poljakinju Swiatek i Amerikanku Pegulu, no Ukrajinka i Čehinja su pokvarile prognoze.
Prva igračica svijeta je sjajno ušla u meč. Već u prvom gemu je napravila break. Međutim, Svitolina se vratila izjednačivši na 2-2, da bi Swiatek s dva gema u nizu povela 4-2. Prvi vodstvu 5-4 je servirala za set, no 28-godišnja Ukrajinka je spojila tri gema u nizu za 7-5.
U drugom setu obje su tenisačice po jednom gubile svoj servis, a odluka je pala u 13. igri koja je otišla na stranu prve tenisačice svijeta.
U odlučujućem, trećem setu Svitolina je uz dva oduzeta servisa povela 5-1 i mirno privela meč kraju.
Ukrajinku će u njezinom drugom polufinalu u Wimbledonu, nakon što je 2019. poražena, čekati Čehinja Vondroušova koji je velikim preokretom u trećem setu sigla do pobjede.
Vondroušova, koja je 42. tenisačica svijeta, je do pobjede protiv četvrte igračice stigla nakon sat i 55 minuta igre.
Ulaskom u polufinale 24-godišnja Čehinja je ostvarila svoj najveći uspjeh u Wimbledonu gdje do sada nikada nije pošla dalje od drugog kola.
"Bilo je jako teško i jednostavno nevjerojatan osjećaj. Nikada nisam igrala na terenu broj jedan. Nevjerojatno je. Samo sam željela ostati što sam duže mogla i borila sam se do kraja. Presretna sam," rekla je Čehinja.
Prvi set obilježili su izgubljeni servis, viđeno je pet breakova, pri čemu je Čehinja napravila tri.
Pegula je zatim zaigrala bolje i nakon breaka u četvrtom gemu prelomila je drugi set. U odlučujućem, trećem setu Amerikanka uz oduzeti servis povela sa 4-1, međutim uslijedio je veliki povratak češke tenisačice.
Vondroušova je osvojila pet vezanih gemova za plasman u polufinale. Peguli je ovo bilo šesto četvrtfinale na nekom od Grand Slam turnira i šesti poraz.
Preostala dva četvrtfinala su Elena Ribakina - Ons Jabeur i Arina Sabalenka - Madison Keys.

Većina stručnjaka je u polufinalu vidjela prvu i četvrtu tenisačicu svijeta, Poljakinju Swiatek i Amerikanku Pegulu, no Ukrajinka i Čehinja su pokvarile prognoze.
Prva igračica svijeta je sjajno ušla u meč. Već u prvom gemu je napravila break. Međutim, Svitolina se vratila izjednačivši na 2-2, da bi Swiatek s dva gema u nizu povela 4-2. Prvi vodstvu 5-4 je servirala za set, no 28-godišnja Ukrajinka je spojila tri gema u nizu za 7-5.
U drugom setu obje su tenisačice po jednom gubile svoj servis, a odluka je pala u 13. igri koja je otišla na stranu prve tenisačice svijeta.
U odlučujućem, trećem setu Svitolina je uz dva oduzeta servisa povela 5-1 i mirno privela meč kraju.
Ukrajinku će u njezinom drugom polufinalu u Wimbledonu, nakon što je 2019. poražena, čekati Čehinja Vondroušova koji je velikim preokretom u trećem setu sigla do pobjede.
Vondroušova, koja je 42. tenisačica svijeta, je do pobjede protiv četvrte igračice stigla nakon sat i 55 minuta igre.
Ulaskom u polufinale 24-godišnja Čehinja je ostvarila svoj najveći uspjeh u Wimbledonu gdje do sada nikada nije pošla dalje od drugog kola.
"Bilo je jako teško i jednostavno nevjerojatan osjećaj. Nikada nisam igrala na terenu broj jedan. Nevjerojatno je. Samo sam željela ostati što sam duže mogla i borila sam se do kraja. Presretna sam," rekla je Čehinja.
Prvi set obilježili su izgubljeni servis, viđeno je pet breakova, pri čemu je Čehinja napravila tri.
Pegula je zatim zaigrala bolje i nakon breaka u četvrtom gemu prelomila je drugi set. U odlučujućem, trećem setu Amerikanka uz oduzeti servis povela sa 4-1, međutim uslijedio je veliki povratak češke tenisačice.
Vondroušova je osvojila pet vezanih gemova za plasman u polufinale. Peguli je ovo bilo šesto četvrtfinale na nekom od Grand Slam turnira i šesti poraz.
Preostala dva četvrtfinala su Elena Ribakina - Ons Jabeur i Arina Sabalenka - Madison Keys.
