Prije točno sto dana Emma Raducanu bila je tenisačica koja nije odigrala meč na WTA Touru, bila je tenisačica koja je pauzirala 15 mjeseci zbog pandemije koronavirusa i školskih obaveza, te je bila tenisačica na 366. mjestu rang-liste. Emma Raducanu tada je dobila pozivnicu za Wimbledon zbog koje su organizatori morali objašnjavati zašto ju je dobila baš ona, u tom trenutku deseta britanska igračica na rang-listi. Ona je odgovorila prolaskom do osmine finala i predajom toga meča Ajli Tomljanović zbog vrtoglavice, e da bi se zbog toga s njom sprdao poznati britanski novinar Piers Morgan. U stilu, “čim je nešto važno, puca se pod pritiskom”, pišu Sportske novosti.

Emma Raducanu kao 18-godišnjakinja u međuvremenu je završila srednju školu s peticama iz matematike i ekonomije, što je najviše zanima (tijekom US Opena izrazila je želju obići Wall Street). Prije i poslije toga je uz pomoć pozivnica odigrala na WTA Touru u Nottinghamu i San Joseu i oba puta izgubila na startu turnira.

Emma Raducanu uoči kvalifikacija US Opena bila je u finalu WTA125 turnira u Chicagu i izgubila od vršnjakinje Clare Tauson, a njen tim je bio zabrinut hoće li izdržati taj naporan tempo, pa su za svaki slučaj bukirane avio karte za povratak u London po završetku kvalifikacija. Sedamnaest dana kasnije i deset mečeva kasnije Emma Raducanu je postala nikada doživljena i najneočekivanija teniska priča svih vremena. Toliko velika da je uspjela u sjenu potisnuti pohod Novaka Đokovića prema Grand Slamu.

Emma Raducanu sa 150. mjesta na rang-listi osvojila je US Openu sa 6:4, 6:3 protiv Leylah Fernandez, 73. na rang-listi (nikada dvije nepostavljene tenisačice nisu igrale u finalu Grand Slam turnira, pogotovo ne s takvim renkingom). Emma Raducanu postala je prva kvalifikantica ili kvalifikant u povijesti, koja je osvojila Grand Slam titulu. Nitko prije nje nije došao ni do finala. Emma Raducanu US Open osvojila je bez izgubljenog seta u deset mečeva, niti jedna suparnica joj nije uspjela odvesti set ni u tie-break.

Nitko prije nje nije osvojio Grand Slam turnir u drugom nastupu, najbliže su bile Venus Williams i Chris Evert u svom trećem nastupu, poražene su u finalu. Emma Raducanu najmlađa je Grand Slam pobjednica od Marije Šarapove u Wimbledonu 2004. godine kad je Ruskinja šokirala Serenu Williams.

Prije ovoga frenetičnog trijumfa u Flushing Meadowsu, Raducanu je osvojila tri ITF turnira, prije tri godine u Tiberiasu i Antalyji, te prije dvije godine u Puneu. Prvi i treći osvojila je iz kvalifikacija, kao i US Open. Mogli bismo ovako nabrajati što je sve svojim nestvarnim uspjehom poremetila Emma Raducanu (rođena u Torontu od oca Rumunja i majke Kineskinje; kad je imala dvije godine obitelj se preselila u okolicu Londona) u teniskoj hijerarhiji, ali nama je najviše upala u oko neobična, kontrastna naslovnica Daily Expressa kad je pobijedila Mariju Sakkari i ušla u finale. Na lijevoj strani naslovnice naslov “Velika Britanija ne prihvaća migrante i usmjerava ih prema Francuskoj”, a na desnoj “Emma Raducanu u finalu US Opena”.

Na kraju, postala je prva britanska pobjednica na Grand Slam turniru od Virginije Wade u Wimbledonu 1977. godine. Onda, migranti, da ili ne?

- Prije Wimbledona sam uspjela trenirati samo tri tjedna, jer sam bila zauzeta pripremama za maturu. Wimbledon je za mene bio nevjerojatno iskustvo, osmina finala, drugi tjedan, nisam mogla vjerovati što mi se događa.

Emma se nada da će posjetiti Wall Street nakon trijumfa, koji će joj zauvijek obilježiti život. Vjerojatno će dobiti prigodu zazvoniti onim zvonom za početak radnog dana na tržištu dionica. Kaže, brojke joj jako dobro idu. Vjerojatno će zapamtiti i ove, koje je sama kreirala. Nitko prije nje nije ništa slično napravio u povijesti tenisa.

- Nakon meča sam se otuširala, uvijek ista rutina. Nemam pojma što ću raditi sutra. Pokušavam shvatiti što se dogodilo, pokušavam živjeti u trenutku. Ovo je definitivno trenutak u kojem se treba isključiti i ne razmišljati o planovima za budućnost. Stvarno nemam nikakvog pojma kakav mi je raspored za dalje. Trenutno me ni za što u životu nije briga, volim život i tako ću se ponašati.

Ne može iskrenije od toga.

A njena suparnica, Leylah Fernandez, koja je do finala srušila tri Top 5 igračice (Naomi Osaka, Elina Svitolina, Arina Sabalenka) i trostruku Grand Slam osvajačicu (Angie Kerber) pokazala je nevjerojatnu zrelost za jednu 19-godišnjakinju kad je u svom govoru nakon finala zatražila još jednom mikrofon i rekla:

- Nadam se da ću uvijek biti tako snažna i otporna na sve, kao što je New York bio u posljednjih 20 godina - reflektirajući se na teroristički napad od 11. rujna 2001.

Budućnost svjetskog tenisa je u najboljim rukama, ove su dvije tinejdžerke odrasle preko noći i postale zvijezde.

Prije točno sto dana Emma Raducanu bila je tenisačica koja nije odigrala meč na WTA Touru, bila je tenisačica koja je pauzirala 15 mjeseci zbog pandemije koronavirusa i školskih obaveza, te je bila tenisačica na 366. mjestu rang-liste. Emma Raducanu tada je dobila pozivnicu za Wimbledon zbog koje su organizatori morali objašnjavati zašto ju je dobila baš ona, u tom trenutku deseta britanska igračica na rang-listi. Ona je odgovorila prolaskom do osmine finala i predajom toga meča Ajli Tomljanović zbog vrtoglavice, e da bi se zbog toga s njom sprdao poznati britanski novinar Piers Morgan. U stilu, “čim je nešto važno, puca se pod pritiskom”, pišu Sportske novosti.

Emma Raducanu kao 18-godišnjakinja u međuvremenu je završila srednju školu s peticama iz matematike i ekonomije, što je najviše zanima (tijekom US Opena izrazila je želju obići Wall Street). Prije i poslije toga je uz pomoć pozivnica odigrala na WTA Touru u Nottinghamu i San Joseu i oba puta izgubila na startu turnira.

Emma Raducanu uoči kvalifikacija US Opena bila je u finalu WTA125 turnira u Chicagu i izgubila od vršnjakinje Clare Tauson, a njen tim je bio zabrinut hoće li izdržati taj naporan tempo, pa su za svaki slučaj bukirane avio karte za povratak u London po završetku kvalifikacija. Sedamnaest dana kasnije i deset mečeva kasnije Emma Raducanu je postala nikada doživljena i najneočekivanija teniska priča svih vremena. Toliko velika da je uspjela u sjenu potisnuti pohod Novaka Đokovića prema Grand Slamu.

Emma Raducanu sa 150. mjesta na rang-listi osvojila je US Openu sa 6:4, 6:3 protiv Leylah Fernandez, 73. na rang-listi (nikada dvije nepostavljene tenisačice nisu igrale u finalu Grand Slam turnira, pogotovo ne s takvim renkingom). Emma Raducanu postala je prva kvalifikantica ili kvalifikant u povijesti, koja je osvojila Grand Slam titulu. Nitko prije nje nije došao ni do finala. Emma Raducanu US Open osvojila je bez izgubljenog seta u deset mečeva, niti jedna suparnica joj nije uspjela odvesti set ni u tie-break.

Nitko prije nje nije osvojio Grand Slam turnir u drugom nastupu, najbliže su bile Venus Williams i Chris Evert u svom trećem nastupu, poražene su u finalu. Emma Raducanu najmlađa je Grand Slam pobjednica od Marije Šarapove u Wimbledonu 2004. godine kad je Ruskinja šokirala Serenu Williams.

Prije ovoga frenetičnog trijumfa u Flushing Meadowsu, Raducanu je osvojila tri ITF turnira, prije tri godine u Tiberiasu i Antalyji, te prije dvije godine u Puneu. Prvi i treći osvojila je iz kvalifikacija, kao i US Open. Mogli bismo ovako nabrajati što je sve svojim nestvarnim uspjehom poremetila Emma Raducanu (rođena u Torontu od oca Rumunja i majke Kineskinje; kad je imala dvije godine obitelj se preselila u okolicu Londona) u teniskoj hijerarhiji, ali nama je najviše upala u oko neobična, kontrastna naslovnica Daily Expressa kad je pobijedila Mariju Sakkari i ušla u finale. Na lijevoj strani naslovnice naslov “Velika Britanija ne prihvaća migrante i usmjerava ih prema Francuskoj”, a na desnoj “Emma Raducanu u finalu US Opena”.

Na kraju, postala je prva britanska pobjednica na Grand Slam turniru od Virginije Wade u Wimbledonu 1977. godine. Onda, migranti, da ili ne?

- Prije Wimbledona sam uspjela trenirati samo tri tjedna, jer sam bila zauzeta pripremama za maturu. Wimbledon je za mene bio nevjerojatno iskustvo, osmina finala, drugi tjedan, nisam mogla vjerovati što mi se događa.

Emma se nada da će posjetiti Wall Street nakon trijumfa, koji će joj zauvijek obilježiti život. Vjerojatno će dobiti prigodu zazvoniti onim zvonom za početak radnog dana na tržištu dionica. Kaže, brojke joj jako dobro idu. Vjerojatno će zapamtiti i ove, koje je sama kreirala. Nitko prije nje nije ništa slično napravio u povijesti tenisa.

- Nakon meča sam se otuširala, uvijek ista rutina. Nemam pojma što ću raditi sutra. Pokušavam shvatiti što se dogodilo, pokušavam živjeti u trenutku. Ovo je definitivno trenutak u kojem se treba isključiti i ne razmišljati o planovima za budućnost. Stvarno nemam nikakvog pojma kakav mi je raspored za dalje. Trenutno me ni za što u životu nije briga, volim život i tako ću se ponašati.

Ne može iskrenije od toga.

A njena suparnica, Leylah Fernandez, koja je do finala srušila tri Top 5 igračice (Naomi Osaka, Elina Svitolina, Arina Sabalenka) i trostruku Grand Slam osvajačicu (Angie Kerber) pokazala je nevjerojatnu zrelost za jednu 19-godišnjakinju kad je u svom govoru nakon finala zatražila još jednom mikrofon i rekla:

- Nadam se da ću uvijek biti tako snažna i otporna na sve, kao što je New York bio u posljednjih 20 godina - reflektirajući se na teroristički napad od 11. rujna 2001.

Budućnost svjetskog tenisa je u najboljim rukama, ove su dvije tinejdžerke odrasle preko noći i postale zvijezde.
