Novak Đoković je po treći put u karijeri osvojio ATP Masters 1000 turnir u Cincinnatiju pobijedivši u dramatičnom finalu dvojice najboljih tenisača svijeta Španjolca Carlosa Alcaraza s 5-7, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (4) nakon tri sata i 49 minuta borbe.

Do svog 39. trofeja na Masters 1000 turnirima i ukupno 95. naslova u karijeri, 36-godišnji Srbin je stigao spasivši meč-loptu u ‘tie-breaku‘ drugog seta (6-5).

To je bio tek početak drame koju nam je ponudio treći set meča igranog većim dijelom u iznimno teškim uvjetima, na 38 Celzijevih stupnjeva u hladu. Đoković je u odlučujućem setu do ‘breaka‘ došao u sedmom gemu, da bi u devetom Alcaraz spasio dvije meč-lopte kad je servirao za produženje meča. Posebno spektakularan bio je poen na drugu meč-loptu, a 20-godišnji Španjolac ga je osvojio stigavši kratku loptu i odigravši forhend paralelu neuhvatljivu za Đokovića koji je bio na mreži.

Alcaraz je potom spasio još dvije meč-lopte kad je Đoković servirao za pobjedu u desetom gemu, da bi u sljedećem spasio još tri prilike za ‘break‘ koje je srpski tenisač imao (15-40 i prednost). Đoković je autoritativno odservirao za odluku u ‘tie-breaku‘u kojem je osvojio prva tri poena.

No, Alcaraz je uzvratio istom mjerom i izjednačio na 3-3. Đoković je kod 4-4 napravio novi ‘mini-break‘, a potom je došao i do pete meč-lopte. Ovoga puta Španjolac nije izdržao i poslao je retern u aut. Tako je Đoković uzvratio 16 godina mlađem suparniku za poraz koji mu je nanio u finalu Wimbledona.

Za Đokovića je ovo bilo osmo finale na ovom turniru na kojem je prvi naslov osvojio 2018., a drugi 2020. kad je turnir igran na terenima u njujorškom Flushing Meadowsu. Ukupno mu je ovo bilo 135. finale u karijeri.

Alcarazov niz nepobjedivosti u finalima Masters 1000 turnira je stao na broju četiri (4-1). U svom 16. finalu ukupno doživio je četvrti poraz (12-4).

Nakon Cincinnatija razlika između Alcaraza i Đokovića na ATP ljestvici smanjena je na samo 20 bodova. Španjolac ih ima 9815, a srpski tenisač 9795. S obzirom na to da Đoković prošle godine nije mogao nastupiti na US Openu, prilično je izvjesno da će se nakon posljednjeg Grand Slam turnira ove sezone ponovno vratiti na čelno mjesto pojedinačne ATP ljestvice, s kojeg ga je Alcaraz skinuo tjedan uoči Wimbledona, jer Španjolac brani naslov i ne može popraviti svoj bodovni učinak čak ni da drugu godinu zaredom podigne pobjednički pehar.

Đokovića u povratku na "broj 1" nakon US Opena može zaustaviti samo poraz u prvom kolu zadnjeg Grand Slam turnira.

Novak Đoković je po treći put u karijeri osvojio ATP Masters 1000 turnir u Cincinnatiju pobijedivši u dramatičnom finalu dvojice najboljih tenisača svijeta Španjolca Carlosa Alcaraza s 5-7, 7-6 (7), 7-6 (4) nakon tri sata i 49 minuta borbe.

Do svog 39. trofeja na Masters 1000 turnirima i ukupno 95. naslova u karijeri, 36-godišnji Srbin je stigao spasivši meč-loptu u ‘tie-breaku‘ drugog seta (6-5).

To je bio tek početak drame koju nam je ponudio treći set meča igranog većim dijelom u iznimno teškim uvjetima, na 38 Celzijevih stupnjeva u hladu. Đoković je u odlučujućem setu do ‘breaka‘ došao u sedmom gemu, da bi u devetom Alcaraz spasio dvije meč-lopte kad je servirao za produženje meča. Posebno spektakularan bio je poen na drugu meč-loptu, a 20-godišnji Španjolac ga je osvojio stigavši kratku loptu i odigravši forhend paralelu neuhvatljivu za Đokovića koji je bio na mreži.

Alcaraz je potom spasio još dvije meč-lopte kad je Đoković servirao za pobjedu u desetom gemu, da bi u sljedećem spasio još tri prilike za ‘break‘ koje je srpski tenisač imao (15-40 i prednost). Đoković je autoritativno odservirao za odluku u ‘tie-breaku‘u kojem je osvojio prva tri poena.

No, Alcaraz je uzvratio istom mjerom i izjednačio na 3-3. Đoković je kod 4-4 napravio novi ‘mini-break‘, a potom je došao i do pete meč-lopte. Ovoga puta Španjolac nije izdržao i poslao je retern u aut. Tako je Đoković uzvratio 16 godina mlađem suparniku za poraz koji mu je nanio u finalu Wimbledona.

Za Đokovića je ovo bilo osmo finale na ovom turniru na kojem je prvi naslov osvojio 2018., a drugi 2020. kad je turnir igran na terenima u njujorškom Flushing Meadowsu. Ukupno mu je ovo bilo 135. finale u karijeri.

Alcarazov niz nepobjedivosti u finalima Masters 1000 turnira je stao na broju četiri (4-1). U svom 16. finalu ukupno doživio je četvrti poraz (12-4).

Nakon Cincinnatija razlika između Alcaraza i Đokovića na ATP ljestvici smanjena je na samo 20 bodova. Španjolac ih ima 9815, a srpski tenisač 9795. S obzirom na to da Đoković prošle godine nije mogao nastupiti na US Openu, prilično je izvjesno da će se nakon posljednjeg Grand Slam turnira ove sezone ponovno vratiti na čelno mjesto pojedinačne ATP ljestvice, s kojeg ga je Alcaraz skinuo tjedan uoči Wimbledona, jer Španjolac brani naslov i ne može popraviti svoj bodovni učinak čak ni da drugu godinu zaredom podigne pobjednički pehar.

Đokovića u povratku na "broj 1" nakon US Opena može zaustaviti samo poraz u prvom kolu zadnjeg Grand Slam turnira.
