Danas na terenima Flushing Meadowsa počinje posljednji ovogodišnji Grand Slam turnir sezone - US Open. Hrvatska će u glavnom ždrijebu imati četvero predstavnika (tri tenisača i jednu tenisačicu). Prvog dana nitko od naših predstavnika neće biti u akciji.
U muškom dijelu ždrijeba predstavljat će nas Marin Čilić (16. nositelj), Ivo Karlović (27. nositelj) te Ivan Ljubičić. Petra Martić uspješno je apsolvirala kvalifikacije te će joj ovo biti prvi nastup na US Openu.
Najvažnije pitanje u muškom dijelu bit će - može li Roger Federer i šestu godinu zaredom ostati neporažen u New Yorku? Švicarac je, naime, na US Openu upisao 34 uzastopne pobjede te je i ove godine prvi favorit za obranu naslova.
Prošle je godine Federer u finalu svladao Škota Andyja Murraya, a sada će u njegovu dijelu ždrijeba biti Australac Lleyton Hewitt, Amerikanac Andy Roddick, Rus Nikolaj Davidenko i Srbin Novak Đoković. U drugome dijelu ždrijeba su Španjolac Rafael Nadal, Murray i Argentinac Juan Martin Del Potro.
U obranu naslova Federer će krenuti danas, u prvom kolu njegov je protivnik 18-godišnji Amerikanac s pozivnicom Devin Britton. Vjerojatno najzanimljiviji dvoboj 1. kola bit će obračun Rafaela Nadala i Richarda Gasqueta. Španjolac će pokušati dokazati da je zaliječio koljena, a Francuzu će to biti prvi meč u glavnom turniru od Rima, nakon što je u ožujku ove godine bio pozitivan na kokain.
Oslobođen je optužbi nakon što je uspio dokazati da je kokain u njegov organizam ušao nakon poljupca s jednom djevojkom u noćnom klubu u Miamiju.
Kod tenisačica će po običaju biti ‘velika gužva’. Sestre Williams uvijek su posebno inspirirane kada igraju u Americi, ali finalni obračun sestara nije moguć. Obje se, naime, nalaze u donjem dijelu ždrijeba.
Osim prve igračice svijeta Ruskinje Dinare Safine u krugu favoritkinja su još sunarodnjakinje joj Jelena Dementijeva i Svetlana Kuznjecova, te Srpkinja Jelena Janković.
Zanimljivo će biti vidjeti što može povratnica, Belgijanka Kim Clijsters koja je odigrala dva turnira (Cincinnati i Toronto) upisavši nekoliko vrijednih pobjeda. Clijsters se vraća u New York prvi put nakon 2005. kad je podigla pobjednički pehar. Prvi će meč odigrati protiv Ukrajinke Viktorije Kutuzove, a dođe li do osmine finala, tamo će je vjerojatno čekati Venus Williams.
Ukupni nagradni fond ovogodišnjeg US Opena je 24,4 milijuna dolara, a organizatori očekuju više od 800.000 gledatelja.

Marin Čilić - Ryan Sweeting (141. igrač svijeta) ne bi trebao predstavljati problema. U drugom kolu Marina čeka bolji iz dvoboja Rusa Gabašvilija i Amerikanca Levinea. U trećem kolu trebao bi ga čekati Stanislas Wawrinka, a osmina finala vjerojatno donosi Andyja Murraya.
Ivo Karlović - U 1. kolu trebao bi dobiti Španjolca Ivana Navarra (119.), iako se s Ivom nikad ne zna. U 2. kolu čeka ga pobjednik dvoboja Španjolca Feliciana Lopeza i Amerikanca Taylora Denta. Pravi izazov Karlovića bi čekao u trećem kolu - Andy Murray. Eventualna pobjeda nad Murrayjem donosi mogući hrvatski obračun sa Čilićem u osmini finala.
Ivan Ljubičić - Teško je očekivati da Ljubičić može na tri seta biti bolji od Novaka Đokovića. U posljednja tri njihova susreta Đoković je sve mečeve dobio bez izgubljenog seta, posljednji put prije dva tjedna u Cincinnatiju.
Petra Martić - Nakon što je suvereno prošla kvalifikacije Petra je imala sreće i u ždrijebu. Francuskinja Severine Bremond (99.) se čini kao idealna protivnica za ulazak u drugo kolo i obračun sa devetom nositeljicom, Dankinjom Caroline Wozniacki.

Roger Federer i Serena Williams brane titule pobjednika

Danas na terenima Flushing Meadowsa počinje posljednji ovogodišnji Grand Slam turnir sezone - US Open. Hrvatska će u glavnom ždrijebu imati četvero predstavnika (tri tenisača i jednu tenisačicu). Prvog dana nitko od naših predstavnika neće biti u akciji.
U muškom dijelu ždrijeba predstavljat će nas Marin Čilić (16. nositelj), Ivo Karlović (27. nositelj) te Ivan Ljubičić. Petra Martić uspješno je apsolvirala kvalifikacije te će joj ovo biti prvi nastup na US Openu.
Najvažnije pitanje u muškom dijelu bit će - može li Roger Federer i šestu godinu zaredom ostati neporažen u New Yorku? Švicarac je, naime, na US Openu upisao 34 uzastopne pobjede te je i ove godine prvi favorit za obranu naslova.
Prošle je godine Federer u finalu svladao Škota Andyja Murraya, a sada će u njegovu dijelu ždrijeba biti Australac Lleyton Hewitt, Amerikanac Andy Roddick, Rus Nikolaj Davidenko i Srbin Novak Đoković. U drugome dijelu ždrijeba su Španjolac Rafael Nadal, Murray i Argentinac Juan Martin Del Potro.
U obranu naslova Federer će krenuti danas, u prvom kolu njegov je protivnik 18-godišnji Amerikanac s pozivnicom Devin Britton. Vjerojatno najzanimljiviji dvoboj 1. kola bit će obračun Rafaela Nadala i Richarda Gasqueta. Španjolac će pokušati dokazati da je zaliječio koljena, a Francuzu će to biti prvi meč u glavnom turniru od Rima, nakon što je u ožujku ove godine bio pozitivan na kokain.
Oslobođen je optužbi nakon što je uspio dokazati da je kokain u njegov organizam ušao nakon poljupca s jednom djevojkom u noćnom klubu u Miamiju.
Kod tenisačica će po običaju biti ‘velika gužva’. Sestre Williams uvijek su posebno inspirirane kada igraju u Americi, ali finalni obračun sestara nije moguć. Obje se, naime, nalaze u donjem dijelu ždrijeba.
Osim prve igračice svijeta Ruskinje Dinare Safine u krugu favoritkinja su još sunarodnjakinje joj Jelena Dementijeva i Svetlana Kuznjecova, te Srpkinja Jelena Janković.
Zanimljivo će biti vidjeti što može povratnica, Belgijanka Kim Clijsters koja je odigrala dva turnira (Cincinnati i Toronto) upisavši nekoliko vrijednih pobjeda. Clijsters se vraća u New York prvi put nakon 2005. kad je podigla pobjednički pehar. Prvi će meč odigrati protiv Ukrajinke Viktorije Kutuzove, a dođe li do osmine finala, tamo će je vjerojatno čekati Venus Williams.
Ukupni nagradni fond ovogodišnjeg US Opena je 24,4 milijuna dolara, a organizatori očekuju više od 800.000 gledatelja.

Tko s kim u New Yorku
Marin Čilić - Ryan Sweeting (141. igrač svijeta) ne bi trebao predstavljati problema. U drugom kolu Marina čeka bolji iz dvoboja Rusa Gabašvilija i Amerikanca Levinea. U trećem kolu trebao bi ga čekati Stanislas Wawrinka, a osmina finala vjerojatno donosi Andyja Murraya.
Ivo Karlović - U 1. kolu trebao bi dobiti Španjolca Ivana Navarra (119.), iako se s Ivom nikad ne zna. U 2. kolu čeka ga pobjednik dvoboja Španjolca Feliciana Lopeza i Amerikanca Taylora Denta. Pravi izazov Karlovića bi čekao u trećem kolu - Andy Murray. Eventualna pobjeda nad Murrayjem donosi mogući hrvatski obračun sa Čilićem u osmini finala.
Ivan Ljubičić - Teško je očekivati da Ljubičić može na tri seta biti bolji od Novaka Đokovića. U posljednja tri njihova susreta Đoković je sve mečeve dobio bez izgubljenog seta, posljednji put prije dva tjedna u Cincinnatiju.
Petra Martić - Nakon što je suvereno prošla kvalifikacije Petra je imala sreće i u ždrijebu. Francuskinja Severine Bremond (99.) se čini kao idealna protivnica za ulazak u drugo kolo i obračun sa devetom nositeljicom, Dankinjom Caroline Wozniacki.
