Prvo pojačanje Hajduka pretprošlog ljeta na pripremama u Austriji bio je igrač zanimljivog životopisa i ozbiljnog iskustva najvišeg ranga portugalskog nogometa. Spominjao se tog ljeta i interes Dinama za stopera Tonija Borevkovića koji je iz portugalske Vitorije Guimaraes stigao u Hajduk na posudbu s opcijom otkupa za milijun eura. 

Dinamo je tog ljeta odlučio iskeširati 4 milijuna eura za Boška Šutala, a Borevković je priznao po dolasku za Hajduk da je htio doći na Poljud bez obzira na to što je deklarirani dinamovac i što je postojala potencijalna prilika za povratak na Maksimir. Prošao je Borevković školu Dinama iz koje je otišao za Rudeš, a potom za portugalski Rio Ave i na koncu u Vitoriju Guimaraes koju je s Hajdukom izbacio iz Europe te sezone.

Na ljeto kad je stigao u Hajduk bio je prvo od dva portugalske pojačanja, a malo nakon njega, tj. nakon priprema, stigao je i Chidozie Awaziem, branič Boaviste, s kojim je trebao igrati u stoperskom paru. Iako su imali pred kraj prvenstva niz od šest utakmica bez primljenog gola u paru, raniji kiksevi i padovi u igri nisu uvjerili upravu Hajduka da aktivira otkupne klauzule. 

Obojica su se vratila u Portugal i dok je Awaziem odmah participirao za prvu momčad Boaviste, u slučaju Borevkovića je taj proces potrajao. Četiri mjeseca trajala je neizvjesnost za stopera iz Slavonskog Broda. Sredinom ljeta pao je u vodu potencijalni transfer u Charlotte FC u MLS-u, a to mu je otvorilo put za neočekivani kontinuitet u Vitoriji.

- Nikada nisam prestao vjerovati sebi. Utuvio sam si u glavu da samo trebam imati jednu priliku i da ću je zgrabiti čim se pojavi. Ali nije bilo lako. Nisam odradio pripreme s momčadi, a priključio sam im se tek sredinom kolovoza. Tri mjeseca kasnije ukazala se prva prilika. Nije bilo lako. Dvojio sam oko svoje spreme, ali onda sam osjetio da sam vrlo samouvjeren kad je došao trenutak za igru. Kada sam se vratio u Guimaraes, pomislio sam: ‘Sad ću pokazati tko sam‘. Čim se ukazala prva prilika, dao sam sve od sebe da pokažem sve što mogu. Želim da ljudi poznaju pravog Borevkovića – istaknuo je nedavno u razgovoru za portugalske medije. 

Propustio je Borevković prvih deset utakmica u prvenstvu, dvije europske te dvije u Kupu, a onda je od studenog postao nezamjenjiv u prvoj momčadi Vitorije. Prvu utakmicu je igrao 23. studenog prošle godine protiv Porta (1:2), a to im je jedini poraz otkako se vratio u prvu momčad. Potom je Vitoria s Borevkovićem u sastavu upisala pobjede protiv Farensea (2:1), Sportinga (3:2), Rio Avea (1:0), Arouce (2:1) te remije s Boavistom (1:1) i Bragom (1:1). Uz to je odigrao i jednu utakmicu u Kupu protiv niželigaša Lanka u kojoj su slavili s 4:1, a zanimljivo je da je u svim utakmicama imao punu minutažu.

Prvo pojačanje Hajduka pretprošlog ljeta na pripremama u Austriji bio je igrač zanimljivog životopisa i ozbiljnog iskustva najvišeg ranga portugalskog nogometa. Spominjao se tog ljeta i interes Dinama za stopera Tonija Borevkovića koji je iz portugalske Vitorije Guimaraes stigao u Hajduk na posudbu s opcijom otkupa za milijun eura. 

Dinamo je tog ljeta odlučio iskeširati 4 milijuna eura za Boška Šutala, a Borevković je priznao po dolasku za Hajduk da je htio doći na Poljud bez obzira na to što je deklarirani dinamovac i što je postojala potencijalna prilika za povratak na Maksimir. Prošao je Borevković školu Dinama iz koje je otišao za Rudeš, a potom za portugalski Rio Ave i na koncu u Vitoriju Guimaraes koju je s Hajdukom izbacio iz Europe te sezone.

Na ljeto kad je stigao u Hajduk bio je prvo od dva portugalske pojačanja, a malo nakon njega, tj. nakon priprema, stigao je i Chidozie Awaziem, branič Boaviste, s kojim je trebao igrati u stoperskom paru. Iako su imali pred kraj prvenstva niz od šest utakmica bez primljenog gola u paru, raniji kiksevi i padovi u igri nisu uvjerili upravu Hajduka da aktivira otkupne klauzule. 

Obojica su se vratila u Portugal i dok je Awaziem odmah participirao za prvu momčad Boaviste, u slučaju Borevkovića je taj proces potrajao. Četiri mjeseca trajala je neizvjesnost za stopera iz Slavonskog Broda. Sredinom ljeta pao je u vodu potencijalni transfer u Charlotte FC u MLS-u, a to mu je otvorilo put za neočekivani kontinuitet u Vitoriji.

- Nikada nisam prestao vjerovati sebi. Utuvio sam si u glavu da samo trebam imati jednu priliku i da ću je zgrabiti čim se pojavi. Ali nije bilo lako. Nisam odradio pripreme s momčadi, a priključio sam im se tek sredinom kolovoza. Tri mjeseca kasnije ukazala se prva prilika. Nije bilo lako. Dvojio sam oko svoje spreme, ali onda sam osjetio da sam vrlo samouvjeren kad je došao trenutak za igru. Kada sam se vratio u Guimaraes, pomislio sam: ‘Sad ću pokazati tko sam‘. Čim se ukazala prva prilika, dao sam sve od sebe da pokažem sve što mogu. Želim da ljudi poznaju pravog Borevkovića – istaknuo je nedavno u razgovoru za portugalske medije. 

Propustio je Borevković prvih deset utakmica u prvenstvu, dvije europske te dvije u Kupu, a onda je od studenog postao nezamjenjiv u prvoj momčadi Vitorije. Prvu utakmicu je igrao 23. studenog prošle godine protiv Porta (1:2), a to im je jedini poraz otkako se vratio u prvu momčad. Potom je Vitoria s Borevkovićem u sastavu upisala pobjede protiv Farensea (2:1), Sportinga (3:2), Rio Avea (1:0), Arouce (2:1) te remije s Boavistom (1:1) i Bragom (1:1). Uz to je odigrao i jednu utakmicu u Kupu protiv niželigaša Lanka u kojoj su slavili s 4:1, a zanimljivo je da je u svim utakmicama imao punu minutažu.
