Eritrejski biciklist Biniam Girmay pamtit će 10. etapu ovogodišnjeg Gira d'Italia, jer je u njoj ovaj daroviti 22-godišnjak postao prvi tamnoputi afrički natjecatelj koji je došao do etapne pobjede na Grand Tour utrkama, ali neće zaboraviti ni ono što je uslijedilo nakon što je ciljem prošao ispred Nizozemca Mathieua van der Poela.

Naime, nenaviknut na protokole koji sa sobom donose velike pobjede na biciklističkim utrkama, Girmay je napravio kobnu pogrešku pri otvaranju pobjedničkog pjenušca. Umjesto da uzme bocu u ruku, Eritrejac se nagnuo nad nju i oslobodio čep koji je odmah izletio i pogodio ga u lijevo oko. S bolnom grimasom na licu i žmireći na ozlijeđeno oko nakratko je još uspio pozirati, a potom je vrlo brzo napustio prostor za proglašenje pobjednika.

"Nakon proglašenja, Girmay nije vidio na to oko", izjavio je za belgijsku televiziju Sporza dr. Piet Daneels, koji je službeni liječnik u Girmayevoj ekipi Intermarche-Wanty Gobert.

"Odmah smo otišli u bolnicu u Jesiju, gdje je bio dobro zbrinut. Imao je krvarenje u prednjem segmentu oka. Takvo krvarenje nije opasno po oko, ali je važno da ostane pod nadzorom. U ovom trenutku se osjeća bolje", priopćio je dr. Daneels koji u utorak navečer nije mogao procijeniti hoće li Grimay biti u stanju u srijedu startati u 11. etapi.

"Ne čini se da je nastala neka nepopravljiva šteta, ali morat ćemo pričekati s konačnom procjenom. Moramo biti oprezni s ovim incidentom", zaključio je dr. Daneels.

Biniam Girmay je već u prvoj etapi ovogodišnjeg Gira osvojio drugo mjesto te još četiri puta bio među petoricom najboljih, a svoj je talent i odličnu formu konačno potvrdio u utorak na cilju u Jesiju.

U srijedu je pred biciklistima 203 kilometra duga ravničarska etapa od Santarcangela di Romagna do Reggio Emilije.

Eritrejski biciklist Biniam Girmay pamtit će 10. etapu ovogodišnjeg Gira d'Italia, jer je u njoj ovaj daroviti 22-godišnjak postao prvi tamnoputi afrički natjecatelj koji je došao do etapne pobjede na Grand Tour utrkama, ali neće zaboraviti ni ono što je uslijedilo nakon što je ciljem prošao ispred Nizozemca Mathieua van der Poela.

Naime, nenaviknut na protokole koji sa sobom donose velike pobjede na biciklističkim utrkama, Girmay je napravio kobnu pogrešku pri otvaranju pobjedničkog pjenušca. Umjesto da uzme bocu u ruku, Eritrejac se nagnuo nad nju i oslobodio čep koji je odmah izletio i pogodio ga u lijevo oko. S bolnom grimasom na licu i žmireći na ozlijeđeno oko nakratko je još uspio pozirati, a potom je vrlo brzo napustio prostor za proglašenje pobjednika.

"Nakon proglašenja, Girmay nije vidio na to oko", izjavio je za belgijsku televiziju Sporza dr. Piet Daneels, koji je službeni liječnik u Girmayevoj ekipi Intermarche-Wanty Gobert.

"Odmah smo otišli u bolnicu u Jesiju, gdje je bio dobro zbrinut. Imao je krvarenje u prednjem segmentu oka. Takvo krvarenje nije opasno po oko, ali je važno da ostane pod nadzorom. U ovom trenutku se osjeća bolje", priopćio je dr. Daneels koji u utorak navečer nije mogao procijeniti hoće li Grimay biti u stanju u srijedu startati u 11. etapi.

"Ne čini se da je nastala neka nepopravljiva šteta, ali morat ćemo pričekati s konačnom procjenom. Moramo biti oprezni s ovim incidentom", zaključio je dr. Daneels.

Biniam Girmay je već u prvoj etapi ovogodišnjeg Gira osvojio drugo mjesto te još četiri puta bio među petoricom najboljih, a svoj je talent i odličnu formu konačno potvrdio u utorak na cilju u Jesiju.

U srijedu je pred biciklistima 203 kilometra duga ravničarska etapa od Santarcangela di Romagna do Reggio Emilije.

Eritrejski biciklist Biniam Girmay pamtit će 10. etapu ovogodišnjeg Gira d'Italia, jer je u njoj ovaj daroviti 22-godišnjak postao prvi tamnoputi afrički natjecatelj koji je došao do etapne pobjede na Grand Tour utrkama, ali neće zaboraviti ni ono što je uslijedilo nakon što je ciljem prošao ispred Nizozemca Mathieua van der Poela.

Naime, nenaviknut na protokole koji sa sobom donose velike pobjede na biciklističkim utrkama, Girmay je napravio kobnu pogrešku pri otvaranju pobjedničkog pjenušca. Umjesto da uzme bocu u ruku, Eritrejac se nagnuo nad nju i oslobodio čep koji je odmah izletio i pogodio ga u lijevo oko. S bolnom grimasom na licu i žmireći na ozlijeđeno oko nakratko je još uspio pozirati, a potom je vrlo brzo napustio prostor za proglašenje pobjednika.
