U prvom od šest kvalifikacijskih krugova za odlazak na Svjetsko prvenstvo 2023. godine reprezentacija Hrvatske nije se proslavila na dalekom putu do Japana, Indonezije ili Filipina, krenula je s dva poraza.

Ali se o hrvatskoj košarci u pozitivnom tonu ipak pričalo naveliko, jer je na reprezentativnoj klupi Belgije kao izbornik sjedio Dario Gjergja, Zadranin koji godinama u toj državi ispisuje izvrsne rezultate kao trener Oostendea! Gjergja je najprije uvjerljivo “skinuo” Slovačku, potom i Srbiju, što je nedvojbeno veliko iznenađenja prvoga kruga....

Je li splasnulo slavlje u Belgiji ili košarka kod njih nije na prvom mjestu? 

- Iskreno, ne opterećujem se previše odjecima u javnosti, ali isto tako ne mogu kazati kako mi nije drago, jer su u Belgiji, nogomet i biciklizam ispred košarke. I onda im ponudimo dvije pobjede, od kojih svakako osobito zvuči ova protiv Srbije koja je definitivno favorit skupine i uvjeren sam kako će u konačnici biti na vrhu. Istina, dobro su svojedobno odjeknule i naše pobjede nad Litvom i Danskom u kvalifikacijama za Eurobasket 2021. godine, međutim, dojma sam kako se ovoga puta, napose nakon trijumfa protiv Srbije, naveliko pisalo i pričalo.

Na drugoj strani imali ste ne samo Srbiju, nego i Svetislava Pešića, iskusnog i trofejnog trenera koji se zasigurno nije nadao kako će “kleknuti” u Belgiji. Je li vama zvonilo u glavi da možete do tako vrijedne pobjede, nedvojbeno, najveće u dugogodišnjoj karijeri?

- Ranije  sam kroz jednu riječ – favoriti, dovoljno kazao o košarkaškoj snazi Srbije, samim time puno je rečeno o velikom stručnjaku, uvaženom gospodinu Pešiću, jednom od najvećih trenera. Nadalje, radi se o suparniku koji je u prvi krug kvalifikacija nastojao dovesti u ovom trenutku najbolje slobodne igrače koji nisu pod obavezama u Euroligi i NBA ligi. Međutim, kad u momčadi imate Miloša Teodosića, Filipa Petruševa i Marka Jagodića Kuridžu koji je jedva dočekao reprezentativni poziv te još pet igrača Partizana koji izvrsno igraju u Eurocupu i mnogi ih drže najboljom momčadi u ovom natjecanju, onda je posve jasno koliko svima njima znači igrati u reprezentaciji. Eto, uspjeli smo ih dobiti, malo proslaviti i nastaviti gledati prema naprijed.

Ono što mnogi guraju u stranu jest činjenica da se često podcjenjivački gleda na uvjetno rečeno male reprezentacije u koje spada i Belgija. I to iz razloga jer premalo, ili gotovo nimalo, ne zagrebe u “rostere” kako bi se vidjelo da je unutra podosta igrača koji primjerice igraju ponajviše u Španjolskoj. Vi ste očito dobro snimili kandidate za belgijsku reprezentaciju. Ali i druge, ponajprije vaše suparnike...

- Evo, iskoristit ću prigodu i kazati nešto za nekoga možda i čudno, kako je Island jedan od najboljih primjera jer imaju četvoricu igrača koji su uglavnom u jakim španjolskim klubovima. Što se tiče reprezentacije koju vodim, nama je kao i drugima nedostajalo puno igrača, imali smo pet ozlijeđenih. Ali, dobili smo ono što se željelo, odlično ozračje u svlačionici i na utakmicama. Momci su protiv Srbije u početku imali previše respekta, međutim, čim su vidjeli da se možemo rezultatski približiti, počeli su više “gristi” i vjerovati u uspjeh. To se potvrdilo kao pobjednička formula!

Može li Belgija u ovakvom ili sličnom ritmu nastaviti kvalifikacije?

- Ne bih se bavio ovim poslom da ne vjerujem da se kvalitetnim radom, pritom mislim na spoj struke i igrača, uvijek može napraviti više nego se možda planiralo. Nas primjerice čekaju dvije jako teške utakmice s Latvijom koju vjerujem mnogi drže ne toliko jakom reprezentacijom, ali moje spoznaje govore posve suprotno. Tako da je priča tek započela, dugačak je put do rezultata koji će nas sve skupa zadovoljiti, valja biti strpljiv i ustrajan – zaključio je Gjergja koji se nije želio osvrnuti na učinak reprezentacije Hrvatske, međutim, u svojim razmišljanjima poslao je jednu poruku....

- Po meni veliki je problem što ni jedan naš hrvatski klub ne igra, recimo, u Eurocupu i tako se olako izgubi onaj srednji sloj kvalitetnih igrača koje imamo, jer ne uspiju doći na pravu pozornicu.

S Oostendeom prvak deset puta zaredom

Dario Gjergja je svoju bogatu karijeru u Belgiji okrunio s 21 trofejem, što u Prvenstvu, Kupu i Super kupu, uz zadivljujući podatak kako je deset puta zaredom s Oostendeom osvojio naslov prvaka Belgije. Gjergja je dobio i belgijsko državljanstvo ne samo utemeljeno  godinama boravaka i rada u toj državi, nego i svojim sportskim rezultatima. Ujedno je i počasni građanin Oostendea, što prije njega nije doživio ni jedan stranac. Isto tako na klupi belgijske reprezentacije od “uvoznih” trenera prije Gjergje bili su jedino  Mirko Novosel i Vlado Đurović.

U prvom od šest kvalifikacijskih krugova za odlazak na Svjetsko prvenstvo 2023. godine reprezentacija Hrvatske nije se proslavila na dalekom putu do Japana, Indonezije ili Filipina, krenula je s dva poraza.

Ali se o hrvatskoj košarci u pozitivnom tonu ipak pričalo naveliko, jer je na reprezentativnoj klupi Belgije kao izbornik sjedio Dario Gjergja, Zadranin koji godinama u toj državi ispisuje izvrsne rezultate kao trener Oostendea! Gjergja je najprije uvjerljivo “skinuo” Slovačku, potom i Srbiju, što je nedvojbeno veliko iznenađenja prvoga kruga....

Je li splasnulo slavlje u Belgiji ili košarka kod njih nije na prvom mjestu? 

- Iskreno, ne opterećujem se previše odjecima u javnosti, ali isto tako ne mogu kazati kako mi nije drago, jer su u Belgiji, nogomet i biciklizam ispred košarke. I onda im ponudimo dvije pobjede, od kojih svakako osobito zvuči ova protiv Srbije koja je definitivno favorit skupine i uvjeren sam kako će u konačnici biti na vrhu. Istina, dobro su svojedobno odjeknule i naše pobjede nad Litvom i Danskom u kvalifikacijama za Eurobasket 2021. godine, međutim, dojma sam kako se ovoga puta, napose nakon trijumfa protiv Srbije, naveliko pisalo i pričalo.

Na drugoj strani imali ste ne samo Srbiju, nego i Svetislava Pešića, iskusnog i trofejnog trenera koji se zasigurno nije nadao kako će “kleknuti” u Belgiji. Je li vama zvonilo u glavi da možete do tako vrijedne pobjede, nedvojbeno, najveće u dugogodišnjoj karijeri?

- Ranije  sam kroz jednu riječ – favoriti, dovoljno kazao o košarkaškoj snazi Srbije, samim time puno je rečeno o velikom stručnjaku, uvaženom gospodinu Pešiću, jednom od najvećih trenera. Nadalje, radi se o suparniku koji je u prvi krug kvalifikacija nastojao dovesti u ovom trenutku najbolje slobodne igrače koji nisu pod obavezama u Euroligi i NBA ligi. Međutim, kad u momčadi imate Miloša Teodosića, Filipa Petruševa i Marka Jagodića Kuridžu koji je jedva dočekao reprezentativni poziv te još pet igrača Partizana koji izvrsno igraju u Eurocupu i mnogi ih drže najboljom momčadi u ovom natjecanju, onda je posve jasno koliko svima njima znači igrati u reprezentaciji. Eto, uspjeli smo ih dobiti, malo proslaviti i nastaviti gledati prema naprijed.

Ono što mnogi guraju u stranu jest činjenica da se često podcjenjivački gleda na uvjetno rečeno male reprezentacije u koje spada i Belgija. I to iz razloga jer premalo, ili gotovo nimalo, ne zagrebe u “rostere” kako bi se vidjelo da je unutra podosta igrača koji primjerice igraju ponajviše u Španjolskoj. Vi ste očito dobro snimili kandidate za belgijsku reprezentaciju. Ali i druge, ponajprije vaše suparnike...

- Evo, iskoristit ću prigodu i kazati nešto za nekoga možda i čudno, kako je Island jedan od najboljih primjera jer imaju četvoricu igrača koji su uglavnom u jakim španjolskim klubovima. Što se tiče reprezentacije koju vodim, nama je kao i drugima nedostajalo puno igrača, imali smo pet ozlijeđenih. Ali, dobili smo ono što se željelo, odlično ozračje u svlačionici i na utakmicama. Momci su protiv Srbije u početku imali previše respekta, međutim, čim su vidjeli da se možemo rezultatski približiti, počeli su više “gristi” i vjerovati u uspjeh. To se potvrdilo kao pobjednička formula!

Može li Belgija u ovakvom ili sličnom ritmu nastaviti kvalifikacije?

- Ne bih se bavio ovim poslom da ne vjerujem da se kvalitetnim radom, pritom mislim na spoj struke i igrača, uvijek može napraviti više nego se možda planiralo. Nas primjerice čekaju dvije jako teške utakmice s Latvijom koju vjerujem mnogi drže ne toliko jakom reprezentacijom, ali moje spoznaje govore posve suprotno. Tako da je priča tek započela, dugačak je put do rezultata koji će nas sve skupa zadovoljiti, valja biti strpljiv i ustrajan – zaključio je Gjergja koji se nije želio osvrnuti na učinak reprezentacije Hrvatske, međutim, u svojim razmišljanjima poslao je jednu poruku....

- Po meni veliki je problem što ni jedan naš hrvatski klub ne igra, recimo, u Eurocupu i tako se olako izgubi onaj srednji sloj kvalitetnih igrača koje imamo, jer ne uspiju doći na pravu pozornicu.

S Oostendeom prvak deset puta zaredom

Dario Gjergja je svoju bogatu karijeru u Belgiji okrunio s 21 trofejem, što u Prvenstvu, Kupu i Super kupu, uz zadivljujući podatak kako je deset puta zaredom s Oostendeom osvojio naslov prvaka Belgije. Gjergja je dobio i belgijsko državljanstvo ne samo utemeljeno  godinama boravaka i rada u toj državi, nego i svojim sportskim rezultatima. Ujedno je i počasni građanin Oostendea, što prije njega nije doživio ni jedan stranac. Isto tako na klupi belgijske reprezentacije od “uvoznih” trenera prije Gjergje bili su jedino  Mirko Novosel i Vlado Đurović.

U prvom od šest kvalifikacijskih krugova za odlazak na Svjetsko prvenstvo 2023. godine reprezentacija Hrvatske nije se proslavila na dalekom putu do Japana, Indonezije ili Filipina, krenula je s dva poraza.

Ali se o hrvatskoj košarci u pozitivnom tonu ipak pričalo naveliko, jer je na reprezentativnoj klupi Belgije kao izbornik sjedio Dario Gjergja, Zadranin koji godinama u toj državi ispisuje izvrsne rezultate kao trener Oostendea! Gjergja je najprije uvjerljivo “skinuo” Slovačku, potom i Srbiju, što je nedvojbeno veliko iznenađenja prvoga kruga....
