Oni među nama s malo bogatijom maštom – pogledavši u Srebrna vrata mogu (jasno) vidjeti rimske vojnike kako naoružani krstare nad nadvojem i kontroliraju pridošlice.

Zvali su ih vrata Porta orientalis, jer su okrenuta prema istoku. Mi smo ih krstili u Srebrna. Kako je i red laskati ljepoti im. Mnogi od vas možda ni danas ne vjeruju kako Srebrnih vrata nije dugo bilo. Ono baš – nije. Bila su, naime, zazidana, još tamo negdje u srednjem vijeku.

S unutrašnje strane vrata, dok su još bila zazidana, Splićani su podignuli baroknu crkvu Dušica, koju je pak avionska bomba porušila do temelja, u bombardiranju grada 3. lipnja 1944. godine. Zazidana i zatvorena – Srebrna su se vrata pojavila opet 1952. godine, ispred su vidljivi ostaci dvije osmerokutne kule koje su branile ulaz.

Vrata Dobre smrti

– U obnovi koja je uslijedila nakon ratnih razaranja grada koji je teško stradao u bombardiranjima, Hrvojeva ulica bila je razorena, a istočna vrata palače izravno pogođena bombom koja je porušila staru crkvu sv. Apolinara, kasnije preuređenu u crkvu Dobre smrti, poznatiju kao Dušica – pripovijeda nam doc. dr. sc. Radoslav Bužančić, pročelnik splitskog Konzervatorskog odjela Ministarstva kulture.

Kaže kako crkva nije bila posebno vrijedan primjer povijesne pregradnje.

– Imala je izgled stambene zgrade, s vratima na pročelju iznad kojih su bila smještena tri prozora, te zvonik na preslicu. Ruševine su nakon rata uklonjene, prezentirana je dijelom sjeverna oktogonalna kula na mjestu Mletačkih gradskih vrata koja su se nazivala Vrata Dobre smrti – nastavlja nas učiti povijesti vlastitog nam grada.

No, kako to obično biva u kraju u kojem nikada nema dovoljno novca za arheologiju, obnova nikad nije potpuno dovršena. Južna oktogonalna kula pred vratima bila je tek označena kamenim pločama u asfaltiranom podu, dio porušenog hodnika nad vratima ostao je ruševina, a visinska razlika Hrvojeve ulice i propugnakula (lat. propugnaculum) – termin koji se odnosi na obrambeno dvorište koje se nalazi unutar fortifikacijskog objekta) palače svladana je stubištima kojima se dolazi na Poljanu kraljice Jelene.

Šetnja nad Pazarom

– Već se godinama planira obnova istočnog zida kojim bi se moglo šetati nad Pazarom. Projekt je napravljen, a njegov značajan dio je prezentacija vrata carske palače koja su danas tek dijelom prezentirana i restaurirana – veli nam Bužančić.

Napominje kako rimska vrata flankirana (osigurana, op.a.) osmerokutnim kulama postoje u svijetu na brojnim mjestima, ali ovo je jedinstvena prilika da se prikažu na istočnom zidu Palače!

Nije tek ova gradska vlast "oslobodila" istočne zidine, to je prije njih napravljeno tijekom prošlog stoljeća, i to na način da su srušene zgrade koje su gradnjom bile naslonjene na zid.

U ovom trenutku ćete pred Srebrnim vratima vidjeti iskopine! Ugrađuju se arheološke sonde, da mogu i bez rušenja i kopanja – detektirati što nam tlo krije.

– Obavljaju se arheološka istraživanja u kojima je otkrivena razina rimskog poda kule, ali i starija arhitektura iz vremena prije gradnje Palače. Nakon istraživanja ove i središnje kule, južnije od Srebrnih vrata, prezentirat će se povijesna arhitektura prema arheološkim nalazima – veli nam Bužančić.

A mi u iščekivanju novih, a starih blaga imamo i dalje priliku, među rijetkima na ovoj zemaljskoj baloti, prolaskom kroz carska vrata stupiti nogom na "decumanus", na kamene plohe isklesane i ugrađene još u doba antike.

Možda je baš tu i Dioklecijan, u kožnoj sandali, dotaknuo tlo. Baš tu.

Oni među nama s malo bogatijom maštom – pogledavši u Srebrna vrata mogu (jasno) vidjeti rimske vojnike kako naoružani krstare nad nadvojem i kontroliraju pridošlice.

Zvali su ih vrata Porta orientalis, jer su okrenuta prema istoku. Mi smo ih krstili u Srebrna. Kako je i red laskati ljepoti im. Mnogi od vas možda ni danas ne vjeruju kako Srebrnih vrata nije dugo bilo. Ono baš – nije. Bila su, naime, zazidana, još tamo negdje u srednjem vijeku.

S unutrašnje strane vrata, dok su još bila zazidana, Splićani su podignuli baroknu crkvu Dušica, koju je pak avionska bomba porušila do temelja, u bombardiranju grada 3. lipnja 1944. godine. Zazidana i zatvorena – Srebrna su se vrata pojavila opet 1952. godine, ispred su vidljivi ostaci dvije osmerokutne kule koje su branile ulaz.

Vrata Dobre smrti

– U obnovi koja je uslijedila nakon ratnih razaranja grada koji je teško stradao u bombardiranjima, Hrvojeva ulica bila je razorena, a istočna vrata palače izravno pogođena bombom koja je porušila staru crkvu sv. Apolinara, kasnije preuređenu u crkvu Dobre smrti, poznatiju kao Dušica – pripovijeda nam doc. dr. sc. Radoslav Bužančić, pročelnik splitskog Konzervatorskog odjela Ministarstva kulture.

Kaže kako crkva nije bila posebno vrijedan primjer povijesne pregradnje.

– Imala je izgled stambene zgrade, s vratima na pročelju iznad kojih su bila smještena tri prozora, te zvonik na preslicu. Ruševine su nakon rata uklonjene, prezentirana je dijelom sjeverna oktogonalna kula na mjestu Mletačkih gradskih vrata koja su se nazivala Vrata Dobre smrti – nastavlja nas učiti povijesti vlastitog nam grada.

No, kako to obično biva u kraju u kojem nikada nema dovoljno novca za arheologiju, obnova nikad nije potpuno dovršena. Južna oktogonalna kula pred vratima bila je tek označena kamenim pločama u asfaltiranom podu, dio porušenog hodnika nad vratima ostao je ruševina, a visinska razlika Hrvojeve ulice i propugnakula (lat. propugnaculum) – termin koji se odnosi na obrambeno dvorište koje se nalazi unutar fortifikacijskog objekta) palače svladana je stubištima kojima se dolazi na Poljanu kraljice Jelene.

Šetnja nad Pazarom

– Već se godinama planira obnova istočnog zida kojim bi se moglo šetati nad Pazarom. Projekt je napravljen, a njegov značajan dio je prezentacija vrata carske palače koja su danas tek dijelom prezentirana i restaurirana – veli nam Bužančić.

Napominje kako rimska vrata flankirana (osigurana, op.a.) osmerokutnim kulama postoje u svijetu na brojnim mjestima, ali ovo je jedinstvena prilika da se prikažu na istočnom zidu Palače!

Nije tek ova gradska vlast "oslobodila" istočne zidine, to je prije njih napravljeno tijekom prošlog stoljeća, i to na način da su srušene zgrade koje su gradnjom bile naslonjene na zid.

U ovom trenutku ćete pred Srebrnim vratima vidjeti iskopine! Ugrađuju se arheološke sonde, da mogu i bez rušenja i kopanja – detektirati što nam tlo krije.

– Obavljaju se arheološka istraživanja u kojima je otkrivena razina rimskog poda kule, ali i starija arhitektura iz vremena prije gradnje Palače. Nakon istraživanja ove i središnje kule, južnije od Srebrnih vrata, prezentirat će se povijesna arhitektura prema arheološkim nalazima – veli nam Bužančić.

A mi u iščekivanju novih, a starih blaga imamo i dalje priliku, među rijetkima na ovoj zemaljskoj baloti, prolaskom kroz carska vrata stupiti nogom na "decumanus", na kamene plohe isklesane i ugrađene još u doba antike.

Možda je baš tu i Dioklecijan, u kožnoj sandali, dotaknuo tlo. Baš tu.
