Cimet se koristi u brojnim kolačima i jelima, bilo slatkim ili pikantnim. I potrebno je pripaziti koliko će ga pojesti djeca, posebno ako su sklona blagdanskim poslasticama. Iako je ugodno aromatičan, cimet, po nekima "kralj začina", prirodno sadrži kemijski sastojak kumarin, koji u visokim dozama može oštetiti jetru.

Pošto djeca imaju nisku tjelesnu težinu, nije problem prekoračiti dopuštenu količinu kumarina. Djeca koja teže oko petnaestak kilograma ne bi trebala dnevno pojesti više od 30 grama cimeta u slasticama, kažu njemački stručnjaci.

Kako bi se stvar dodatno zakomplicirala, svaka vrsta cimeta ima različitu količinu kumarina. Kineski cimet ga, primjerice, ima više od cejlonskog. Inače, kumarin je općenito zabranjen kao aditiv hrani zbog moguće hepatoksičnosti. Riječ je o kemijskom spoju s benzopironskom osnovom koji daje miris biljkama.

Roditelji koji često koriste cimet kao začin trebali bi se ili odlučiti za cejlonski ili, da budu sigurni, djeci ograničiti unos cimeta na minimum.

Cimet se koristi u brojnim kolačima i jelima, bilo slatkim ili pikantnim. I potrebno je pripaziti koliko će ga pojesti djeca, posebno ako su sklona blagdanskim poslasticama. Iako je ugodno aromatičan, cimet, po nekima "kralj začina", prirodno sadrži kemijski sastojak kumarin, koji u visokim dozama može oštetiti jetru.

Pošto djeca imaju nisku tjelesnu težinu, nije problem prekoračiti dopuštenu količinu kumarina. Djeca koja teže oko petnaestak kilograma ne bi trebala dnevno pojesti više od 30 grama cimeta u slasticama, kažu njemački stručnjaci.

Kako bi se stvar dodatno zakomplicirala, svaka vrsta cimeta ima različitu količinu kumarina. Kineski cimet ga, primjerice, ima više od cejlonskog. Inače, kumarin je općenito zabranjen kao aditiv hrani zbog moguće hepatoksičnosti. Riječ je o kemijskom spoju s benzopironskom osnovom koji daje miris biljkama.

Roditelji koji često koriste cimet kao začin trebali bi se ili odlučiti za cejlonski ili, da budu sigurni, djeci ograničiti unos cimeta na minimum.
