Pitanje eutanazije osjetljiva je i intrigantna tema koja izaziva rasprave i polemike.

Tako je i sa slučajem 23-godišnje Shanti De Corte, Belgijke iz Antwerpena, koja je umrla 7. svibnja nakon što su se dva psihijatra složila da je toliko depresivna da bi mogla biti zakonski eutanazirana. Ona se u ožujku 2016. godine zatekla u bruxelleskoj zračnoj luci pri napadu Islamske države u kojem su ubijene 32 osobe, zbog čega je razvila depresiju i posttraumatski stresni poremećaj.

Iako fizički neozlijeđena, nikada nije preboljela napad i dvaput je pokušala samoubojstvo prije nego što je zatražila pomoć liječnika da joj okončaju život. Prema belgijskom zakonu, eutanazija je dopuštena osobi u "medicinski beskorisnom stanju stalne i nepodnošljive fizičke ili psihičke boli koja se ne može ublažiti", a za eutanaziju ne postoji donja dobna granica, piše Daily mail.

Slučaj Shanti De Corte odjeknuo je i u Veliku Britaniji. Aktivisti koji se bore protiv uvođenja zakona o potpomognutom umiranju upozorili da će se, čak i ako se donese usko definiran zakon, on s vremenom neizbježno proširiti kako bi uključio i osobe s mentalnim problemima.

‘Kršćanska briga‘ kontra ‘Dostojanstva u umiranju‘

Andrea Williams iz organizacije "Christian Concern" (Kršćanska briga) rekla je: ‘Uistinu je šokantno da je inače zdrava, ali traumatizirana 23-godišnjakinja eutanazirana umjesto da se o njoj skrbi. Uz odgovarajuću pomoć mogla je živjeti dug, ispunjen život. Ovaj slučaj pokazuje koliko je klizak teren nakon što zakonom dopustite eutanaziju.‘

Sarah Wootton, izvršna direktorica organizacije "Dignity in Dying" (Dostojanstvo u umiranju), rekla je: "Dokazi iz SAD-a, Australije i Novog Zelanda govore nam da strogo izrađeni i zaštićeni zakoni s ovim strogim kriterijima ostaju takvi. Ljudi na poziciji gospođe De Corte ne bi imali pravo na potpomognutu smrt ni prema jednom predloženom zakonu Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva".

Nema dileme da je eutanazija jedno od najvažnijih pitanja s kojima se susreće današnje društvo. I ono nije samo tema liječnika, nego i stručnjaka različitih profila, pa i cijeloga društva i zaslužuje temeljitu raspravu koja bi uvažila sve delikatne dimenzije eutanazije.

Pitanje eutanazije osjetljiva je i intrigantna tema koja izaziva rasprave i polemike.

Tako je i sa slučajem 23-godišnje Shanti De Corte, Belgijke iz Antwerpena, koja je umrla 7. svibnja nakon što su se dva psihijatra složila da je toliko depresivna da bi mogla biti zakonski eutanazirana. Ona se u ožujku 2016. godine zatekla u bruxelleskoj zračnoj luci pri napadu Islamske države u kojem su ubijene 32 osobe, zbog čega je razvila depresiju i posttraumatski stresni poremećaj.

Iako fizički neozlijeđena, nikada nije preboljela napad i dvaput je pokušala samoubojstvo prije nego što je zatražila pomoć liječnika da joj okončaju život. Prema belgijskom zakonu, eutanazija je dopuštena osobi u "medicinski beskorisnom stanju stalne i nepodnošljive fizičke ili psihičke boli koja se ne može ublažiti", a za eutanaziju ne postoji donja dobna granica, piše Daily mail.

Slučaj Shanti De Corte odjeknuo je i u Veliku Britaniji. Aktivisti koji se bore protiv uvođenja zakona o potpomognutom umiranju upozorili da će se, čak i ako se donese usko definiran zakon, on s vremenom neizbježno proširiti kako bi uključio i osobe s mentalnim problemima.

‘Kršćanska briga‘ kontra ‘Dostojanstva u umiranju‘

Andrea Williams iz organizacije "Christian Concern" (Kršćanska briga) rekla je: ‘Uistinu je šokantno da je inače zdrava, ali traumatizirana 23-godišnjakinja eutanazirana umjesto da se o njoj skrbi. Uz odgovarajuću pomoć mogla je živjeti dug, ispunjen život. Ovaj slučaj pokazuje koliko je klizak teren nakon što zakonom dopustite eutanaziju.‘

Sarah Wootton, izvršna direktorica organizacije "Dignity in Dying" (Dostojanstvo u umiranju), rekla je: "Dokazi iz SAD-a, Australije i Novog Zelanda govore nam da strogo izrađeni i zaštićeni zakoni s ovim strogim kriterijima ostaju takvi. Ljudi na poziciji gospođe De Corte ne bi imali pravo na potpomognutu smrt ni prema jednom predloženom zakonu Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva".

No dr. Claud Regnard, počasni savjetnik za palijativnu skrb u hospiciju St Oswald u Newcastleu, ustvrdio je da bi pritisak da se uključi više ljudi bio neumoljiv, piše Daily mail.

Nema dileme da je eutanazija jedno od najvažnijih pitanja s kojima se susreće današnje društvo. I ono nije samo tema liječnika, nego i stručnjaka različitih profila, pa i cijeloga društva i zaslužuje temeljitu raspravu koja bi uvažila sve delikatne dimenzije eutanazije.
