Iznenadna, tragična smrt malog djeteta odjekne puno šire od same obitelji.
Tako je odjeknula i smrt 10-mjesečne Esther Jo Bethard, koja je umrla 7. srpnja nakon što je dan prije, dok su je roditelji kupali, uspjela neopazice progutati jednu vodenu kuglicu.
Te vodene perle su mali, sferični, upijajući kristali koji se koriste u poljoprivrednoj industriji i cvjetnim aranžmanima, ali posljednjih su godina postale popularne kao igračke za kupanje.
Njena majka Taylor Bethard sada traži da se te vodene kuglice zabrane, to jest povuku iz prodaje i da se spriječi njihovo reklamiranje kao dječjih igračaka da niti jedna druga obitelj ne prođe kroz isti tragični incident‘, piše Daily Mail.
Majka rekla je da je Esther bila nestašno i obožavano dijete koje se voljelo igrati u dvorištu sa četvero starije braće i sestrama.
Igračke su izvorno bile namijenjene poljoprivrednim proizvodima i pomogle su u održavanju vlage u tlu zbog svojih upijajućih svojstava. Slični superupijajući polimeri koriste se u proizvodima poput dječjih pelena. Međutim posljednjih godina perle su se reklamirale kao igračke za kupanje - posebno namijenjene za malu djecu ili one s autizmom kao senzornu pomoć.
Zabilježeni brojni slični slučajevi
Estherina ožalošćena majka rekla je da su simptomi gutanja vodene kuglice vrlo slični onima kod želučane bolesti - poput odbijanja bebe da jede, povraćanja ili zatvora. Svojstva upijanja mogu uzrokovati bubrenje zrna unutar tijela i moguće začepljenje vitalnih kanala.
Unatoč pretpostavci da je proizvod sigurna igračka za kupanje, mama kaže da ‘nikada ne bi dopustila mojoj starijoj djeci da se igraju s njima‘ i da im nikada ne bi bilo dopušteno ući u kuću.
Majka je objavila da je SAD-u a između 2017. i 2022. godine bilo 248 slučajeva s vodenim kuglicama, a nijedan njihov opoziv.
Predstavnik Povjerenstva za javnu sigurnost potrošača rekao je da nastavljaju istraživati incident.
Glasnogovornik je dodao da s industrijom rade na poboljšanju upozorenja i da će razmotriti dodatne mjere ako se promjene ne uvedu na vrijeme, piše Daily Mail..
Ipak ako je između 2017. i 2022. godine bilo toliko slučajeva s kuglicama, povjerenstvo je trebalo odavno reagirati i upozoriti roditelje na opasnost od kuglica. Možda bi tada mala Esther danas bila živa.

Iznenadna, tragična smrt malog djeteta odjekne puno šire od same obitelji.
Tako je odjeknula i smrt 10-mjesečne Esther Jo Bethard, koja je umrla 7. srpnja nakon što je dan prije, dok su je roditelji kupali, uspjela neopazice progutati jednu vodenu kuglicu.
Te vodene perle su mali, sferični, upijajući kristali koji se koriste u poljoprivrednoj industriji i cvjetnim aranžmanima, ali posljednjih su godina postale popularne kao igračke za kupanje.
Njena majka Taylor Bethard sada traži da se te vodene kuglice zabrane, to jest povuku iz prodaje i da se spriječi njihovo reklamiranje kao dječjih igračaka da niti jedna druga obitelj ne prođe kroz isti tragični incident‘, piše Daily Mail.
Majka rekla je da je Esther bila nestašno i obožavano dijete koje se voljelo igrati u dvorištu sa četvero starije braće i sestrama.
Igračke su izvorno bile namijenjene poljoprivrednim proizvodima i pomogle su u održavanju vlage u tlu zbog svojih upijajućih svojstava. Slični superupijajući polimeri koriste se u proizvodima poput dječjih pelena. Međutim posljednjih godina perle su se reklamirale kao igračke za kupanje - posebno namijenjene za malu djecu ili one s autizmom kao senzornu pomoć.
Zabilježeni brojni slični slučajevi
Estherina ožalošćena majka rekla je da su simptomi gutanja vodene kuglice vrlo slični onima kod želučane bolesti - poput odbijanja bebe da jede, povraćanja ili zatvora. Svojstva upijanja mogu uzrokovati bubrenje zrna unutar tijela i moguće začepljenje vitalnih kanala.
Unatoč pretpostavci da je proizvod sigurna igračka za kupanje, mama kaže da ‘nikada ne bi dopustila mojoj starijoj djeci da se igraju s njima‘ i da im nikada ne bi bilo dopušteno ući u kuću.
Majka je objavila da je SAD-u a između 2017. i 2022. godine bilo 248 slučajeva s vodenim kuglicama, a nijedan njihov opoziv.
Predstavnik Povjerenstva za javnu sigurnost potrošača rekao je da nastavljaju istraživati incident.
Glasnogovornik je dodao da s industrijom rade na poboljšanju upozorenja i da će razmotriti dodatne mjere ako se promjene ne uvedu na vrijeme, piše Daily Mail..
Ipak ako je između 2017. i 2022. godine bilo toliko slučajeva s kuglicama, povjerenstvo je trebalo odavno reagirati i upozoriti roditelje na opasnost od kuglica. Možda bi tada mala Esther danas bila živa.
