Alzheimerova bolest može se otkriti čak 20 godina prije nego što se pojave prvi simptomi, tvrde znanstvenici s londonskog University Collegea. Oni su razvili novu, jednostavnu, neinvazivnu i jeftinu dijagnostičku metodu koja će se za približno tri godine moći rutinski primjenjivati na ljudima srednje životne dobi. Tako će se povećati izgledi za rani početak liječenja, usporavanje tijeka bolesti, a možda i za pronalazak novih lijekova koji bi je mogli zaustaviti.
Radi se o tehnici koja se temelji na korištenju fluorescentnih markera koji se pričvršćuju uz odumiruće stanice vidljive u mrežnici oka, a mogu poslužiti kao pokazatelj smrti stanica mozga. Bolesniku će se umetnuti kemijski markeri u obliku kapi za oči ili injekcije u ruku, a potom će se napraviti snimka infracrvenom kamerom i prebrojiti točkice koje se pojave na snimci. Smatra se da više od 20 točkica u nalazu znači početak Alzheimera.
Pokusi su za sada provedeni na miševima, ali s velikim optimizmiom znanstvenici najavljuju i početak testiranja na ljudima.
“Malo ljudi zna da je očna jabučica direktni produžetak mozga, i realno je očekivati da ćemo u bliskoj budućnosti moći posjetom okulistu obaviti i kompletan pregled mozga”, kaže voditeljica istraživanja prof. Francesca Coredeiro s londonskog Instituta za oftalmologiju.
Ona vjeruje da će ova nova, revolucionarna metoda biti u širokoj primjeni već za dvije godine do pet godina, te da će testiranje biti moguće čak i kod optičara. Najavila je da će se prvi pacijenti pregledavati novom metodom već ove godine.
To je izvanredan iskorak jer se danas početak Alzheimerove bolesti potvrđuje samo skupim pregledom magnetskom rezonancijom ili analizom mozga nakon smrti, jer smrt živčanih stanica koja je ključni dio svih neurodegenerativnih bolesti do sada nije bilo moguće promatrati odumiranjem stanica u živom oku.
Stručnjaci za liječenje demencije smatraju da je riječ o velikom koraku koji omogućuje davanje lijekova već u najranijoj fazi bolesti, pa tako Rebecca Wood iz Alzheimer’s Trusta smatra da će se zahvaljujući ovom testu promijeniti način dijagnosticiranja Alzheimerove bolesti i u velikoj mjeri povećati napori u traženju novih lijekova.
Glaukom i ParkinsonAlzheimer i drugi oblici demencije ugrožavaju život više od 700.000 Britanaca i njihovih obitelji, a smatra se da će se ta brojka unutar jedne generacije čak udvostručiti. Novi test omogućit će rano otkrivanje i glaukoma i Parkinsona. |

Alzheimerova bolest može se otkriti čak 20 godina prije nego što se pojave prvi simptomi, tvrde znanstvenici s londonskog University Collegea. Oni su razvili novu, jednostavnu, neinvazivnu i jeftinu dijagnostičku metodu koja će se za približno tri godine moći rutinski primjenjivati na ljudima srednje životne dobi. Tako će se povećati izgledi za rani početak liječenja, usporavanje tijeka bolesti, a možda i za pronalazak novih lijekova koji bi je mogli zaustaviti.
Radi se o tehnici koja se temelji na korištenju fluorescentnih markera koji se pričvršćuju uz odumiruće stanice vidljive u mrežnici oka, a mogu poslužiti kao pokazatelj smrti stanica mozga. Bolesniku će se umetnuti kemijski markeri u obliku kapi za oči ili injekcije u ruku, a potom će se napraviti snimka infracrvenom kamerom i prebrojiti točkice koje se pojave na snimci. Smatra se da više od 20 točkica u nalazu znači početak Alzheimera.
Pokusi su za sada provedeni na miševima, ali s velikim optimizmiom znanstvenici najavljuju i početak testiranja na ljudima.
“Malo ljudi zna da je očna jabučica direktni produžetak mozga, i realno je očekivati da ćemo u bliskoj budućnosti moći posjetom okulistu obaviti i kompletan pregled mozga”, kaže voditeljica istraživanja prof. Francesca Coredeiro s londonskog Instituta za oftalmologiju.
Ona vjeruje da će ova nova, revolucionarna metoda biti u širokoj primjeni već za dvije godine do pet godina, te da će testiranje biti moguće čak i kod optičara. Najavila je da će se prvi pacijenti pregledavati novom metodom već ove godine.
To je izvanredan iskorak jer se danas početak Alzheimerove bolesti potvrđuje samo skupim pregledom magnetskom rezonancijom ili analizom mozga nakon smrti, jer smrt živčanih stanica koja je ključni dio svih neurodegenerativnih bolesti do sada nije bilo moguće promatrati odumiranjem stanica u živom oku.
Stručnjaci za liječenje demencije smatraju da je riječ o velikom koraku koji omogućuje davanje lijekova već u najranijoj fazi bolesti, pa tako Rebecca Wood iz Alzheimer’s Trusta smatra da će se zahvaljujući ovom testu promijeniti način dijagnosticiranja Alzheimerove bolesti i u velikoj mjeri povećati napori u traženju novih lijekova.
