Analiza uzoraka zamrznute krvi otkrila je mnoštvo proteina koji mogu predvidjeti nekoliko oblika demencije više od 10 godina prije nego što se bolest dijagnosticira, rekli su britanski i kineski znanstvenici.
Studija, objavljena u časopisu Nature Aging, dio je istraživanja više timova za identifikaciju pacijenata kod kojih postoji rizik od demencije s pomoću jednostavnog testa krvi, što je napredak za koji mnogi znanstvenici vjeruju da će ubrzati razvoj novih liječničkih tretmana.
Skeniranje mozga može otkriti abnormalne razine proteina beta amiloida mnogo godina prije nego što se razvije Alzheimerova bolest, ali testovi su skupi i često nisu pokriveni osiguranjem.
"Na temelju ove studije, čini se vjerojatnim da će biti razvijeni krvni testovi koji mogu predvidjeti rizik od razvoja demencije u sljedećih 10 godina...", rekla je dr. Suzanne Schindler, koja se bavi istraživanjem Alzheimerove bolesti na Sveučilištu Washington u St. Louisu, a koja nije bila uključena u istraživanje.
Autor studije Jian-Feng Feng sa Sveučilišta Fudan u Šangaju rekao je da su takvi testovi ključni za populaciju koja je sve starija, kao što je to slučaj u Kini, te je istaknuo da je u pregovorima o mogućem komercijalnom razvoju krvnog testa na temelju njihovog istraživanja
U studiji su istraživači sa Sveučilišta Warwick i Sveučilišta Fudan proučavali 52.645 uzoraka krvi iz istraživačkog repozitorija Biobank U.K., prikupljenih između 2006. i 2010. od ljudi koji u to vrijeme nisu imali znakove demencije.

Od njih je 1417 ljudi na kraju razvilo Alzheimerovu bolest, vaskularnu demenciju ili demenciju bilo kojeg uzroka. Istraživači su proučavali proteinske potpise uobičajene kod ovih pojedinaca i otkrili 1463 proteina povezana s demencijom i rangirali ih prema tome kolika je vjerojatnost da će predvidjeti demenciju.
Otkrili su da ljudi u čijoj su krvi bile više razine proteina GFAP, NEFL, GDF15 i LTBP2 imaju stalno veću vjerojatnost da će razviti neku vrstu demencije. Ljudi s povišenim razinama GFAP-a imali su 2,32 puta veću vjerojatnost da će razviti demenciju, potvrđujući nalaze iz manjih studija koje su ukazale na doprinos ovog proteina.
Autori su rekli da njihovo istraživanje nije neovisno potvrđeno.
Jedan protein koji se dobro pokazao u predviđanju demencije, neurofilamentna svjetlost, već se koristi za dijagnosticiranje i praćenje nekih stanja kao što je multipla skleroza, rekla je Schindler.

Analiza uzoraka zamrznute krvi otkrila je mnoštvo proteina koji mogu predvidjeti nekoliko oblika demencije više od 10 godina prije nego što se bolest dijagnosticira, rekli su britanski i kineski znanstvenici.
Studija, objavljena u časopisu Nature Aging, dio je istraživanja više timova za identifikaciju pacijenata kod kojih postoji rizik od demencije s pomoću jednostavnog testa krvi, što je napredak za koji mnogi znanstvenici vjeruju da će ubrzati razvoj novih liječničkih tretmana.
Skeniranje mozga može otkriti abnormalne razine proteina beta amiloida mnogo godina prije nego što se razvije Alzheimerova bolest, ali testovi su skupi i često nisu pokriveni osiguranjem.
"Na temelju ove studije, čini se vjerojatnim da će biti razvijeni krvni testovi koji mogu predvidjeti rizik od razvoja demencije u sljedećih 10 godina...", rekla je dr. Suzanne Schindler, koja se bavi istraživanjem Alzheimerove bolesti na Sveučilištu Washington u St. Louisu, a koja nije bila uključena u istraživanje.
Autor studije Jian-Feng Feng sa Sveučilišta Fudan u Šangaju rekao je da su takvi testovi ključni za populaciju koja je sve starija, kao što je to slučaj u Kini, te je istaknuo da je u pregovorima o mogućem komercijalnom razvoju krvnog testa na temelju njihovog istraživanja
U studiji su istraživači sa Sveučilišta Warwick i Sveučilišta Fudan proučavali 52.645 uzoraka krvi iz istraživačkog repozitorija Biobank U.K., prikupljenih između 2006. i 2010. od ljudi koji u to vrijeme nisu imali znakove demencije.

Od njih je 1417 ljudi na kraju razvilo Alzheimerovu bolest, vaskularnu demenciju ili demenciju bilo kojeg uzroka. Istraživači su proučavali proteinske potpise uobičajene kod ovih pojedinaca i otkrili 1463 proteina povezana s demencijom i rangirali ih prema tome kolika je vjerojatnost da će predvidjeti demenciju.
Otkrili su da ljudi u čijoj su krvi bile više razine proteina GFAP, NEFL, GDF15 i LTBP2 imaju stalno veću vjerojatnost da će razviti neku vrstu demencije. Ljudi s povišenim razinama GFAP-a imali su 2,32 puta veću vjerojatnost da će razviti demenciju, potvrđujući nalaze iz manjih studija koje su ukazale na doprinos ovog proteina.
Autori su rekli da njihovo istraživanje nije neovisno potvrđeno.
Jedan protein koji se dobro pokazao u predviđanju demencije, neurofilamentna svjetlost, već se koristi za dijagnosticiranje i praćenje nekih stanja kao što je multipla skleroza, rekla je Schindler.
"Ova studija nije uključila klinički dostupne krvne testove za Alzheimerovu bolest, koji bi vjerojatno još bolje predvidjeli razvoj demencije zbog Alzheimerove bolesti", rekla je.
