Neki tipovi karcinoma dojke mogu se izliječiti bez zračenja, pokazuju rezultati nove studije kanadskih znanstvenika objavljene na godišnjem skupu Američkog društva za kliničku onkologiju u Chicagu.
Žene starije od 55 godina u kojih je dijagnosticiran određeni tip raka dojke u ranom stadiju mogu se podvrgnuti kirurškom zahvatu i zatim hormonskoj terapiji, kažu autori studije.


Voditelj istraživanja, profesor Timothy Whelan sa Sveučilišta McMaster u Kanadi, nazvao je otkriće "sjajnim" jer pokazuje da neke žene mogu sigurno izbjeći zračenje i njegove nuspojave.

Istraživanje predstavljeno na godišnjem skupu ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology') u Chicagu proučavalo je rezultate u žena koje su imale luminalni tip A raka dojke niskog gradusa,  a riječ je o raku sa specifičnim genetskim markerom. 
Skupini od 500 pacijentica kirurški je uklonjen rak dojke, a zatim su primale hormonsku terapiju. Nakon toga bile su praćene pet godina kako bi se procijenilo vraća li se karcinom dojke.


Znanstvenici su ustanovili da je recidiv iznosio samo 2,3 posto bez zračenja. To je usporedivo s 1,9 posto recidiva u slučaju neliječenog raka dojke.
Prof. Whelan rekao je da se u ranim stadijima raka dojke općenito primjenjuje radioterapija od tri do pet tjedana kako bi se smanjila opasnost od recidiva.


"Ova su otkrića sjajna jer smo identificirali određenu skupinu pacijenata koji mogu izbjeći radioterapiju i s njome povezane nuspojave, a to otvara potencijal za bolju medicinsku praksu u liječenju karcinoma dojke", rekao je.
“Radioterapija ima velike nuspojave, među njima su umor, iscrpljenost i nadraženost kože i te pojave mogu trajati nekoliko tjedana i nakon završetka ciklusa, a postoje i kasnije nuspojave koje imaju  posljedice na kvalitetu života kao i vrlo rijetke ozbiljnije komplikacije poput oboljenja srca i drugih karcinoma.

“Ako možemo izbjeći radioterapiju, tim bolje", jer "ne zahtijevaju svi karcinomi jednaku razinu često invazivne terapije", rekao je prof. Whelan.
Komentirajući studiju, dr. Kotryna Temcinaite, viša znanstvenica za komunikaciju u Britanskom humanitarnom društvu za karcinom "Breast Cancer Now" rekla je da se "svake godine u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu rak dojke dijagnosticira u oko 55.000 žena i 370 muškaraca".


"Zbog toga moramo osigurati da svi dobiju za njih najprimjereniju terapiju – od ljudi koji imaju najveće izglede od recidiva i zato trebaju primati najintenzivnije terapije do onih koji sigurno mogu izbjeći pojedine terapije i s njima povezane nuspojave".
“Ova otkrića sugeriraju da uz pomoć dodatnih ispitivanja pacijenti niskoga gradusa raka dojke mogu uspješno proći uz kirurški zahvat i hormonsku terapiju, što znači da mogu izbjeći zračenje i dugotrajne iscrpljujuće nuspojave", zaključila je.

Neki tipovi karcinoma dojke mogu se izliječiti bez zračenja, pokazuju rezultati nove studije kanadskih znanstvenika objavljene na godišnjem skupu Američkog društva za kliničku onkologiju u Chicagu.
Žene starije od 55 godina u kojih je dijagnosticiran određeni tip raka dojke u ranom stadiju mogu se podvrgnuti kirurškom zahvatu i zatim hormonskoj terapiji, kažu autori studije.


Voditelj istraživanja, profesor Timothy Whelan sa Sveučilišta McMaster u Kanadi, nazvao je otkriće "sjajnim" jer pokazuje da neke žene mogu sigurno izbjeći zračenje i njegove nuspojave.

Istraživanje predstavljeno na godišnjem skupu ASCO (American Society of Clinical Oncology') u Chicagu proučavalo je rezultate u žena koje su imale luminalni tip A raka dojke niskog gradusa,  a riječ je o raku sa specifičnim genetskim markerom. 
Skupini od 500 pacijentica kirurški je uklonjen rak dojke, a zatim su primale hormonsku terapiju. Nakon toga bile su praćene pet godina kako bi se procijenilo vraća li se karcinom dojke.


Znanstvenici su ustanovili da je recidiv iznosio samo 2,3 posto bez zračenja. To je usporedivo s 1,9 posto recidiva u slučaju neliječenog raka dojke.
Prof. Whelan rekao je da se u ranim stadijima raka dojke općenito primjenjuje radioterapija od tri do pet tjedana kako bi se smanjila opasnost od recidiva.


"Ova su otkrića sjajna jer smo identificirali određenu skupinu pacijenata koji mogu izbjeći radioterapiju i s njome povezane nuspojave, a to otvara potencijal za bolju medicinsku praksu u liječenju karcinoma dojke", rekao je.
“Radioterapija ima velike nuspojave, među njima su umor, iscrpljenost i nadraženost kože i te pojave mogu trajati nekoliko tjedana i nakon završetka ciklusa, a postoje i kasnije nuspojave koje imaju  posljedice na kvalitetu života kao i vrlo rijetke ozbiljnije komplikacije poput oboljenja srca i drugih karcinoma.

“Ako možemo izbjeći radioterapiju, tim bolje", jer "ne zahtijevaju svi karcinomi jednaku razinu često invazivne terapije", rekao je prof. Whelan.
Komentirajući studiju, dr. Kotryna Temcinaite, viša znanstvenica za komunikaciju u Britanskom humanitarnom društvu za karcinom "Breast Cancer Now" rekla je da se "svake godine u Ujedinjenom Kraljevstvu rak dojke dijagnosticira u oko 55.000 žena i 370 muškaraca".


"Zbog toga moramo osigurati da svi dobiju za njih najprimjereniju terapiju – od ljudi koji imaju najveće izglede od recidiva i zato trebaju primati najintenzivnije terapije do onih koji sigurno mogu izbjeći pojedine terapije i s njima povezane nuspojave".
“Ova otkrića sugeriraju da uz pomoć dodatnih ispitivanja pacijenti niskoga gradusa raka dojke mogu uspješno proći uz kirurški zahvat i hormonsku terapiju, što znači da mogu izbjeći zračenje i dugotrajne iscrpljujuće nuspojave", zaključila je.
