Proizvođač lijekova Merck zatražio je u ponedjeljak od američkih regulatornih tijela da odobre pilulu protiv koronavirusa, čime bi svjetski arsenal protiv pandemije dobio potpuno novo oružje, javlja Huffpost.
Ako ga odobri Uprava za hranu i lijekove, a odluka bi mogla pasti za nekoliko tjedana, bila bi to prva priznata tableta za liječenje zaraze Covidom-19.
Ovu antivirusnu pilulu ljudi bi mogli uzimati kod kuće kako bi umanjili simptome i ubrzali oporavak.
Ako se pokaže učinkovitom, trebala bi rasteretiti pretrpane američke bolnice i pomoći smanjenju broja slučajeva u siromašnijim zemljama sa slabim zdravstvenim sustavima.
S uvođenjem ove tablete napokon bi bio moguć dvostrani pristup pandemiji: liječenje putem lijekova i prevencija, prvenstveno cijepljenjem.
FDA će prije donošenja odluke pomno proučiti podatke o sigurnosti i učinkovitosti lijeka, nazvanog Molnupiravir.
S blagim do umjerenim simptomima
Merck i njegov partner Ridgeback Biotherapeutical rekli su da su izričito zatražili od agencije da odobre hitnu uporabu lijeka za odrasle s blagim do umjerenim simptomima covida, koji su u opasnosti od teške bolesti ili hospitalizacije.
- Prednost pilule je u tome što ne morate imati posla s centrima za infuziju i svim faktorima koje to podrazumijeva - rekao je doktor Nicholas Kartsonis, potpredsjednik Merckove jedinice za zarazne bolesti.

Proizvođač lijekova Merck zatražio je u ponedjeljak od američkih regulatornih tijela da odobre pilulu protiv koronavirusa, čime bi svjetski arsenal protiv pandemije dobio potpuno novo oružje, javlja Huffpost.
Ako ga odobri Uprava za hranu i lijekove, a odluka bi mogla pasti za nekoliko tjedana, bila bi to prva priznata tableta za liječenje zaraze Covidom-19.
Ovu antivirusnu pilulu ljudi bi mogli uzimati kod kuće kako bi umanjili simptome i ubrzali oporavak.
Ako se pokaže učinkovitom, trebala bi rasteretiti pretrpane američke bolnice i pomoći smanjenju broja slučajeva u siromašnijim zemljama sa slabim zdravstvenim sustavima.
S uvođenjem ove tablete napokon bi bio moguć dvostrani pristup pandemiji: liječenje putem lijekova i prevencija, prvenstveno cijepljenjem.
FDA će prije donošenja odluke pomno proučiti podatke o sigurnosti i učinkovitosti lijeka, nazvanog Molnupiravir.
S blagim do umjerenim simptomima
Merck i njegov partner Ridgeback Biotherapeutical rekli su da su izričito zatražili od agencije da odobre hitnu uporabu lijeka za odrasle s blagim do umjerenim simptomima covida, koji su u opasnosti od teške bolesti ili hospitalizacije.
- Prednost pilule je u tome što ne morate imati posla s centrima za infuziju i svim faktorima koje to podrazumijeva - rekao je doktor Nicholas Kartsonis, potpredsjednik Merckove jedinice za zarazne bolesti.
Tvrtka je ranije ovog mjeseca izvijestila da je pilula prepolovila hospitalizacije i smrtne slučajeve među pacijentima s ranim simptomima zaraze virusom.
Američki dužnosnici nastavljaju poticati cijepljenje kao najbolji način zaštite od koronavirusa.
No, budući da oko 68 milijuna Amerikanaca koji ispunjavaju uvjete još uvijek ne pristaju na cijepljenje, učinkoviti lijekovi bit će ključni za kontrolu budućih valova infekcije.
