Uzimanje dnevne doze multivitamina tijekom 3 godine povezano je sa 60 postotnim usporavanjem kognitivnog starenja, a učinci su posebno izraženi kod pacijenata s kardiovaskularnom bolešću, pokazuju nova istraživanja. Osim testiranja učinka dnevnog multivitamina na mentalnu dugovječnost, COSMOS-Mind studija je također ispitala učinak kakao flavonola, koja nije pokazala pozitivan učinak, piše Medscape

Ovi nalazi 'mogu imati važne implikacije na javno zdravlje, posebno na zdravlje mozga, s obzirom na dostupnost multivitamina i minerala, te njihovu nisku cijenu i sigurnost', rekla je istraživačica studije Laura D. Baker, dr. sc, profesorica gerontologije i gerijatrijske medicine, Wake Forest Medicinski fakulteta u Winston-Salemu, Sjevernoj Karolini. Nalazi su predstavljeni na 14. konferenciji o kliničkim ispitivanjima Alzheimerove bolesti.

Navedeno istraživanje je zapravo podstudija velikog ekperimentalnog ispitivanja u kojem su uspoređivani učinci ekstrakta kakaa (500 mg/dan kakao flavanola) i standardnog multivitaminsko-minerala s placebom na ishode kardiovaskularnih bolesti i raka kod više od 21.000 starijih sudionika.

COSMOS-Mind je uključio 2262 odrasle osobe bez dijagnosticiranih demencija u dobi od 65 i više godina koje su bile podvrgnute kognitivnom testiranju tijekom 3 godine. Prosječna dob na početku je bila 73 godine, a 40,4 posto su bili muškarci. Većina sudionika (88,7 posto) bili su bijelci, a gotovo polovica (49,2 posto) imala je neko obrazovanje nakon fakulteta.

Sve ispitivane skupine bile su uravnotežene s obzirom na demografiju, povijest kardiovaskularnih bolesti, dijabetes, depresiju, pušački status, unos alkohola, unos čokolade i prethodnu upotrebu multivitamina. Početni kognitivni rezultati također su bili slični između ispitivanih skupina. Istraživači su imali potpune podatke o 77 posto sudionika istraživanja.

Primarna fokusna točka bio je učinak ekstrakta kakaa u odnosu na placebo na ukupni rezultat kognitivnih funkcija. Sekundarni fokus bio je učinak multivitamina u odnosu na placebo na mentalno zdravlje. Dodatni ishodi uključivali su utjecaj suplemenata na motoriku i pamćenje te učinke liječenja za unaprijed određene podskupine, uključujući ispitanike s poviješću kardiovaskularnih bolesti.

Koristeći graf promjene tijekom vremena, Baker je spoznala da učinak kakaa na ukupnu kognitivnu funkciju ne postoji. 'Vidimo očekivane učinke prakse, ali nema razdvajanja između aktivnih i placebo skupina', rekla je.

S multiviaminima je pak bila druga priča. Ovdje je postojao isti učinak prakse, ali je grafikon pokazao linije odvojene za ukupni rezultat globalne kognitivne funkcije. 'Učinak multivitamina se pokazao pozitivan za aktivnu skupinu u odnosu na placebo, koji postiže vrhunac nakon 2 godine, a zatim ostaje stabilan tijekom vremena', rekao je Baker.

Bilo je sličnih nalaza s multivitaminom za konačni rezultat memorije i motornih funkcija. 'Primjećujemo znakovite pomake u sva tri slučaja, gdje se dvije linije razdvajaju nakon obavljenih testiranja', potvrdila je Baker.

Uzimanje dnevne doze multivitamina tijekom 3 godine povezano je sa 60 postotnim usporavanjem kognitivnog starenja, a učinci su posebno izraženi kod pacijenata s kardiovaskularnom bolešću, pokazuju nova istraživanja. Osim testiranja učinka dnevnog multivitamina na mentalnu dugovječnost, COSMOS-Mind studija je također ispitala učinak kakao flavonola, koja nije pokazala pozitivan učinak, piše Medscape

Ovi nalazi 'mogu imati važne implikacije na javno zdravlje, posebno na zdravlje mozga, s obzirom na dostupnost multivitamina i minerala, te njihovu nisku cijenu i sigurnost', rekla je istraživačica studije Laura D. Baker, dr. sc, profesorica gerontologije i gerijatrijske medicine, Wake Forest Medicinski fakulteta u Winston-Salemu, Sjevernoj Karolini. Nalazi su predstavljeni na 14. konferenciji o kliničkim ispitivanjima Alzheimerove bolesti.

Navedeno istraživanje je zapravo podstudija velikog ekperimentalnog ispitivanja u kojem su uspoređivani učinci ekstrakta kakaa (500 mg/dan kakao flavanola) i standardnog multivitaminsko-minerala s placebom na ishode kardiovaskularnih bolesti i raka kod više od 21.000 starijih sudionika.

COSMOS-Mind je uključio 2262 odrasle osobe bez dijagnosticiranih demencija u dobi od 65 i više godina koje su bile podvrgnute kognitivnom testiranju tijekom 3 godine. Prosječna dob na početku je bila 73 godine, a 40,4 posto su bili muškarci. Većina sudionika (88,7 posto) bili su bijelci, a gotovo polovica (49,2 posto) imala je neko obrazovanje nakon fakulteta.

Sve ispitivane skupine bile su uravnotežene s obzirom na demografiju, povijest kardiovaskularnih bolesti, dijabetes, depresiju, pušački status, unos alkohola, unos čokolade i prethodnu upotrebu multivitamina. Početni kognitivni rezultati također su bili slični između ispitivanih skupina. Istraživači su imali potpune podatke o 77 posto sudionika istraživanja.

Primarna fokusna točka bio je učinak ekstrakta kakaa u odnosu na placebo na ukupni rezultat kognitivnih funkcija. Sekundarni fokus bio je učinak multivitamina u odnosu na placebo na mentalno zdravlje. Dodatni ishodi uključivali su utjecaj suplemenata na motoriku i pamćenje te učinke liječenja za unaprijed određene podskupine, uključujući ispitanike s poviješću kardiovaskularnih bolesti.

Koristeći graf promjene tijekom vremena, Baker je spoznala da učinak kakaa na ukupnu kognitivnu funkciju ne postoji. 'Vidimo očekivane učinke prakse, ali nema razdvajanja između aktivnih i placebo skupina', rekla je.

S multiviaminima je pak bila druga priča. Ovdje je postojao isti učinak prakse, ali je grafikon pokazao linije odvojene za ukupni rezultat globalne kognitivne funkcije. 'Učinak multivitamina se pokazao pozitivan za aktivnu skupinu u odnosu na placebo, koji postiže vrhunac nakon 2 godine, a zatim ostaje stabilan tijekom vremena', rekao je Baker.

Bilo je sličnih nalaza s multivitaminom za konačni rezultat memorije i motornih funkcija. 'Primjećujemo znakovite pomake u sva tri slučaja, gdje se dvije linije razdvajaju nakon obavljenih testiranja', potvrdila je Baker.

Uzimanje dnevne doze multivitamina tijekom 3 godine povezano je sa 60 postotnim usporavanjem kognitivnog starenja, a učinci su posebno izraženi kod pacijenata s kardiovaskularnom bolešću, pokazuju nova istraživanja.
