Često čujemo da je menopauza gotovo neizbježno povezana s debljanjem.

Primarni razlog tome navodno je smanjenje količine estrogena u tijelu, što navodno otežava “sagorijevanje masti”. Istraživači koji rade na Sveučilištu Jyväskylä u Finskoj odlučili su pomnije ispitati tu teoriju.

Je li održavanje zdrave tjelesne težine nakon menopauze doista tako izazovno?

Studija objavljena u časopisu Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases pokazuje da konzumacija masti ne ovisi nužno o razini estrogena u krvi.

To se odnosi i na potrošnju masti tijekom odmora i na potrošnju tijekom tjelesne aktivnosti. Prema istraživačima, utjecaj estrogena trebao bi biti praktički zanemariv, posebno u usporedbi s utjecajem tjelesne kondicije.

U istraživanje su bile uključene 42 žene. Među njima je bilo 26 žena koje su već ušle u menopauzu, ali se nisu odlučile na hormonsku nadomjesnu terapiju.

Brzina sagorijevanja

Količina estrogena u njihovu tijelu ili u krvi bila je stoga prilično niska. Među sudionicama je bilo i devet žena koje su već ušle u menopauzu, s tim da se u ovom slučaju radilo o ženama koje su se odlučile na hormonsku nadomjesnu terapiju, pa je zbog toga razina estrogena u njihovim tijelima bila relativno visoka.

Sedam žena bilo je reproduktivne dobi ili u razdoblju prije menopauze. Za praćenje učinkovitosti korištenja masti upotrijebljena je tzv. neizravna kalorimetrija.

Istraživanje je počelo mjerenjem brzine “sagorijevanja masti” tijekom mirovanja. Stopa potrošnje je mjerena natašte. Najveća brzina izmjerena je kod žena čiji je energetski unos manji od energetske potrošnje.

Istraživači su također otkrili vezu između bržeg sagorijevanja masnoće i povećane razine ketona i masnih kiselina u krvi.

Konzumacija ne ovisi o estrogenu

Iznimno važno otkriće je da konzumacija masti ne ovisi nužno o količini estrogena u krvi. Već samo na temelju podatka radi li se o ženi u generativnoj dobi, ženi koja je već ušla u menopauzu, ali nije koristila hormonsku nadomjesnu terapiju, ili o ženi koja se zbog menopauze odlučila na hormonsku nadomjesnu terapiju, nije bilo moguće kako bi se utvrdilo koliko brzo će potrošnja masti biti učinkovita.

Slijedilo je mjerenje učinkovitosti potrošnje masti tijekom tjelesne aktivnosti, kada je potrošnja obično najbrža. Najbolje su to pokazale žene koje su bile u iznadprosječno dobroj formi.

Dobra tjelesna spremnost podrazumijevala je najbržu potrošnju masti tijekom vježbanja – neovisno o menopauzi i eventualnoj hormonskoj nadomjesnoj terapiji.

Fokus na najvažnijem

Istraživači stoga smatraju da pretjerano fokusiranje na estrogen nakon menopauze nema smisla – barem kada je u pitanju gubitak viška kilograma ili održavanje zdrave tjelesne težine. Puno je razumnije usredotočiti se na poboljšanje tjelesne kondicije. To će potaknuti brže “sagorijevanje masti”, bez obzira na količinu estrogena u krvi.

Istraživači su također testirali može li učinkovitija konzumacija masti utjecati na poboljšanje tolerancije glukoze. Rezultati su bili prilično iznenađujući.

Žene čije je “sagorijevanje masti” bilo najučinkovitije u mirovanju imale su višu razinu glukoze i inzulina u krvi nakon stres-testa glukoze.

Smatra se da brža potrošnja masti tijekom odmora dovodi do bržeg porasta glukoze u krvi nakon konzumacije ugljikohidrata. S druge strane, učinkovitije iskorištavanje masti tijekom vježbanja nije utjecalo na toleranciju glukoze.

Često čujemo da je menopauza gotovo neizbježno povezana s debljanjem.

Primarni razlog tome navodno je smanjenje količine estrogena u tijelu, što navodno otežava “sagorijevanje masti”. Istraživači koji rade na Sveučilištu Jyväskylä u Finskoj odlučili su pomnije ispitati tu teoriju.

Je li održavanje zdrave tjelesne težine nakon menopauze doista tako izazovno?

Studija objavljena u časopisu Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases pokazuje da konzumacija masti ne ovisi nužno o razini estrogena u krvi.

To se odnosi i na potrošnju masti tijekom odmora i na potrošnju tijekom tjelesne aktivnosti. Prema istraživačima, utjecaj estrogena trebao bi biti praktički zanemariv, posebno u usporedbi s utjecajem tjelesne kondicije.

U istraživanje su bile uključene 42 žene. Među njima je bilo 26 žena koje su već ušle u menopauzu, ali se nisu odlučile na hormonsku nadomjesnu terapiju.

Brzina sagorijevanja

Količina estrogena u njihovu tijelu ili u krvi bila je stoga prilično niska. Među sudionicama je bilo i devet žena koje su već ušle u menopauzu, s tim da se u ovom slučaju radilo o ženama koje su se odlučile na hormonsku nadomjesnu terapiju, pa je zbog toga razina estrogena u njihovim tijelima bila relativno visoka.

Sedam žena bilo je reproduktivne dobi ili u razdoblju prije menopauze. Za praćenje učinkovitosti korištenja masti upotrijebljena je tzv. neizravna kalorimetrija.

Istraživanje je počelo mjerenjem brzine “sagorijevanja masti” tijekom mirovanja. Stopa potrošnje je mjerena natašte. Najveća brzina izmjerena je kod žena čiji je energetski unos manji od energetske potrošnje.

Istraživači su također otkrili vezu između bržeg sagorijevanja masnoće i povećane razine ketona i masnih kiselina u krvi.

Konzumacija ne ovisi o estrogenu

Iznimno važno otkriće je da konzumacija masti ne ovisi nužno o količini estrogena u krvi. Već samo na temelju podatka radi li se o ženi u generativnoj dobi, ženi koja je već ušla u menopauzu, ali nije koristila hormonsku nadomjesnu terapiju, ili o ženi koja se zbog menopauze odlučila na hormonsku nadomjesnu terapiju, nije bilo moguće kako bi se utvrdilo koliko brzo će potrošnja masti biti učinkovita.

Slijedilo je mjerenje učinkovitosti potrošnje masti tijekom tjelesne aktivnosti, kada je potrošnja obično najbrža. Najbolje su to pokazale žene koje su bile u iznadprosječno dobroj formi.

Dobra tjelesna spremnost podrazumijevala je najbržu potrošnju masti tijekom vježbanja – neovisno o menopauzi i eventualnoj hormonskoj nadomjesnoj terapiji.

Fokus na najvažnijem

Istraživači stoga smatraju da pretjerano fokusiranje na estrogen nakon menopauze nema smisla – barem kada je u pitanju gubitak viška kilograma ili održavanje zdrave tjelesne težine. Puno je razumnije usredotočiti se na poboljšanje tjelesne kondicije. To će potaknuti brže “sagorijevanje masti”, bez obzira na količinu estrogena u krvi.

Istraživači su također testirali može li učinkovitija konzumacija masti utjecati na poboljšanje tolerancije glukoze. Rezultati su bili prilično iznenađujući.

Žene čije je “sagorijevanje masti” bilo najučinkovitije u mirovanju imale su višu razinu glukoze i inzulina u krvi nakon stres-testa glukoze.

Smatra se da brža potrošnja masti tijekom odmora dovodi do bržeg porasta glukoze u krvi nakon konzumacije ugljikohidrata. S druge strane, učinkovitije iskorištavanje masti tijekom vježbanja nije utjecalo na toleranciju glukoze.
