Jim Carrey to radi. Will Smith i Russel Crowe isto. Vjerojatno i sva sila domaćih zvijezda koje ne pratim pa nisam ni svjesna da su i oni u tom điru. Moj suprug isto. Ne mislim na nepraćenje domaćih zvijezda, nego na đir. Bradati. Od kad je korona. 'Šta ću se sad brijat kad ne iden na posal', postavio je retoričko pitanje još tamo krajem ožujka i nikad na njega nije odgovorio. Nije bilo ni potrebe, brada govori više od riječi.

Zašto je toliko muškaraca na pandemiju uzvratilo pospremanjem britvice? Zato što su ostali doma? Zato što vani nose maske? Zato što je lakše uzgojiti bradu nego uredno ju brijati? Zato što se bolje od glatko obrijanog lica slaže uz tutu? Pitala sam muža, kao odgovor se pogladio po bradi.

Pitanje me nastavilo kopkati. Je li ova nova bradatost pokušaj odvraćanja opasnog virusa, poput onih strašnih maski koje su se nosile u vrijeme kuge? Je li znak predaje, kao kod bolesne mačke koja više nema volje za timarenje krzna? Da za svaki slučaj obrijem supruga na spavanju?

Na sreću, psiholozi su se već pozabavili zagonetkom muške brade. Jedan od njih, Christopher Oldstone-Moore, napisao je knjigu Of Beards and Men: The Revealing History of Facial Hair.

A u njoj piše da su 'quest' brade stara stvar. Uzgajali su ih vojnici i istraživači kad bi krenuli na dug i opasan pohod s neizvjesnim ishodom, čiji uspjeh ovisi o snažnoj volji i predanosti. Navodi i moderne priomijere, momčad Boston Red Soxa, koja je 2013. ekipno pustila bradu dok je pokušavala osvojiti sezonu. I osvojili su ju. Možda ipak ima nešto u tom puštanju brade?

Oldstone-Moore spominje i podžanr 'quest' brade: onu koja se pušta kad se muškarac, želi 'reinventirati'. Kao Madonna. Tako je, recimo, postupio Al Gore, kad je nakon političkog neuspjeha postao klimatski aktivist. I Walter White kad je od sumornog profesora postao narko masterchef. Eno i Šprajc ima neko vrijeme nosi bradu.

Bradatost je u zapadnoj civilizaciji izuzetak, ne pravilo, još od kad se Aleksandar Makedonski (smije li ga se sad tako zvati?) prihvatio brijanja želeći, navodno, postići bogoliki izgled. Pustite sad ove naše zarasle barbare i komotnog Henrika VIII, sve do 19. stoljeća u civiliziranom se svijetu golobradost poistovjećivala s uljuđenošću. Osim, dakako, u kriznim periodima kad se puštanjem brade željela naglasiti muževnost.

A tko može poreći da već neko vrijeme živimo u kriznim vremenima? Brade su bar posljednje desetljeće itekako u modi, još ako su uredno 'poštucane', a vrh brka dobro ufitiljen, baš kao i tregeri, pijenje iz staklenke, uzgoj sobnog bilja, kukičanje, kava iz kafetjere i ostale retro, hipsterske 'furke'. Oldstone-Moore u tome vidi otpor androgenom trendu i 'krizi muževnosti' koja je, po nekima, nastupila sredinom 90-ih s Beckhamom i ostalim metroseksualcima.

No vratimo se ovoj našoj krizi i puštanju brade vezanom uz nju, jer premda je prva asocijacija na 'karantensku bradu' možda komod, brada ipak ima dublje psihološke, pa čak i sociološke konotacije. Bradati muškarci smatraju se agresivnijima, poduzetnijima, više mačo. Sposobnijima za preživljavaje? Možda čak i to, na nekoj podsvjesnoj razini.

Međutim, neki se pitaju, nije li zapravo brada, topla i vlažna od kože i disanja, pa još ako je k tome, bože sačuvaj, puna mrvica, idealni inkubator za koronu? Premda prljava brada može biti topli dom za cijeli dijapazon mikroba, a nedavno istraživanje pokazalo je da je u bakteriološkom smislu prljavija od psećeg vrata, dokaza da se sviđa i koronavirusu za sad nema.

Oboli li, pak, bradonja - od covida ili neke druge boljetice - dio će virusa neizbježno završiti i u bradi pa im se preporučuje da ju, dok god šmrču i kišu, dobro, dobro peru. Pa i nakon toga.

No što je s nošenjem maski? Prije koji tjedan u Sjedinjenim je državama zavladala panika jer je netko pogrešno interpretirao mišljenje tamošnjeg Centra za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti (CDC) i proglasio da se brade moraju obrijati jer zbog njih zaštitne maske loše prijanjaju. Ispostavilo se, međutim, da se ovo odnosilo na respiratore, ne na maske. Nitko ne zna koliko je brada potpuno bespotrebno obtijano u masovnom naletu panike.

A kad već spominjemo brijanje... Nije li vrijeme da se naši macho muškarci sad kad su popustile mjere opreza riješe svog dlakavog zaklona? Pitate li mene, trebalo bi postupiti jednako kao kad dijete s ulice dovuče novog ljubimca: ako ga pazi, čisti i drži pod kontrolom, neka mu.

Jim Carrey to radi. Will Smith i Russel Crowe isto. Vjerojatno i sva sila domaćih zvijezda koje ne pratim pa nisam ni svjesna da su i oni u tom điru. Moj suprug isto. Ne mislim na nepraćenje domaćih zvijezda, nego na đir. Bradati. Od kad je korona. 'Šta ću se sad brijat kad ne iden na posal', postavio je retoričko pitanje još tamo krajem ožujka i nikad na njega nije odgovorio. Nije bilo ni potrebe, brada govori više od riječi.

Zašto je toliko muškaraca na pandemiju uzvratilo pospremanjem britvice? Zato što su ostali doma? Zato što vani nose maske? Zato što je lakše uzgojiti bradu nego uredno ju brijati? Zato što se bolje od glatko obrijanog lica slaže uz tutu? Pitala sam muža, kao odgovor se pogladio po bradi.

Pitanje me nastavilo kopkati. Je li ova nova bradatost pokušaj odvraćanja opasnog virusa, poput onih strašnih maski koje su se nosile u vrijeme kuge? Je li znak predaje, kao kod bolesne mačke koja više nema volje za timarenje krzna? Da za svaki slučaj obrijem supruga na spavanju?

Na sreću, psiholozi su se već pozabavili zagonetkom muške brade. Jedan od njih, Christopher Oldstone-Moore, napisao je knjigu Of Beards and Men: The Revealing History of Facial Hair.

A u njoj piše da su 'quest' brade stara stvar. Uzgajali su ih vojnici i istraživači kad bi krenuli na dug i opasan pohod s neizvjesnim ishodom, čiji uspjeh ovisi o snažnoj volji i predanosti. Navodi i moderne priomijere, momčad Boston Red Soxa, koja je 2013. ekipno pustila bradu dok je pokušavala osvojiti sezonu. I osvojili su ju. Možda ipak ima nešto u tom puštanju brade?

Oldstone-Moore spominje i podžanr 'quest' brade: onu koja se pušta kad se muškarac, želi 'reinventirati'. Kao Madonna. Tako je, recimo, postupio Al Gore, kad je nakon političkog neuspjeha postao klimatski aktivist. I Walter White kad je od sumornog profesora postao narko masterchef. Eno i Šprajc ima neko vrijeme nosi bradu.

Bradatost je u zapadnoj civilizaciji izuzetak, ne pravilo, još od kad se Aleksandar Makedonski (smije li ga se sad tako zvati?) prihvatio brijanja želeći, navodno, postići bogoliki izgled. Pustite sad ove naše zarasle barbare i komotnog Henrika VIII, sve do 19. stoljeća u civiliziranom se svijetu golobradost poistovjećivala s uljuđenošću. Osim, dakako, u kriznim periodima kad se puštanjem brade željela naglasiti muževnost.

A tko može poreći da već neko vrijeme živimo u kriznim vremenima? Brade su bar posljednje desetljeće itekako u modi, još ako su uredno 'poštucane', a vrh brka dobro ufitiljen, baš kao i tregeri, pijenje iz staklenke, uzgoj sobnog bilja, kukičanje, kava iz kafetjere i ostale retro, hipsterske 'furke'. Oldstone-Moore u tome vidi otpor androgenom trendu i 'krizi muževnosti' koja je, po nekima, nastupila sredinom 90-ih s Beckhamom i ostalim metroseksualcima.

No vratimo se ovoj našoj krizi i puštanju brade vezanom uz nju, jer premda je prva asocijacija na 'karantensku bradu' možda komod, brada ipak ima dublje psihološke, pa čak i sociološke konotacije. Bradati muškarci smatraju se agresivnijima, poduzetnijima, više mačo. Sposobnijima za preživljavaje? Možda čak i to, na nekoj podsvjesnoj razini.

Međutim, neki se pitaju, nije li zapravo brada, topla i vlažna od kože i disanja, pa još ako je k tome, bože sačuvaj, puna mrvica, idealni inkubator za koronu? Premda prljava brada može biti topli dom za cijeli dijapazon mikroba, a nedavno istraživanje pokazalo je da je u bakteriološkom smislu prljavija od psećeg vrata, dokaza da se sviđa i koronavirusu za sad nema.

Oboli li, pak, bradonja - od covida ili neke druge boljetice - dio će virusa neizbježno završiti i u bradi pa im se preporučuje da ju, dok god šmrču i kišu, dobro, dobro peru. Pa i nakon toga.

No što je s nošenjem maski? Prije koji tjedan u Sjedinjenim je državama zavladala panika jer je netko pogrešno interpretirao mišljenje tamošnjeg Centra za kontrolu i prevenciju bolesti (CDC) i proglasio da se brade moraju obrijati jer zbog njih zaštitne maske loše prijanjaju. Ispostavilo se, međutim, da se ovo odnosilo na respiratore, ne na maske. Nitko ne zna koliko je brada potpuno bespotrebno obtijano u masovnom naletu panike.

A kad već spominjemo brijanje... Nije li vrijeme da se naši macho muškarci sad kad su popustile mjere opreza riješe svog dlakavog zaklona? Pitate li mene, trebalo bi postupiti jednako kao kad dijete s ulice dovuče novog ljubimca: ako ga pazi, čisti i drži pod kontrolom, neka mu.

Jim Carrey to radi. Will Smith i Russel Crowe isto. Vjerojatno i sva sila domaćih zvijezda koje ne pratim pa nisam ni svjesna da su i oni u tom điru. Moj suprug isto. Ne mislim na nepraćenje domaćih zvijezda, nego na đir. Bradati. Od kad je korona. 'Šta ću se sad brijat kad ne iden na posal', postavio je retoričko pitanje još tamo krajem ožujka i nikad na njega nije odgovorio. Nije bilo ni potrebe, brada govori više od riječi.

Zašto je toliko muškaraca na pandemiju uzvratilo pospremanjem britvice? Zato što su ostali doma? Zato što vani nose maske? Zato što je lakše uzgojiti bradu nego uredno ju brijati? Zato što se bolje od glatko obrijanog lica slaže uz tutu? Pitala sam muža, kao odgovor se pogladio po bradi.

Pitanje me nastavilo kopkati. Je li ova nova bradatost pok...
