Uvijek je bilo vrlo malo vjerojatno da će sadašnji vojvoda od Edinburgha, princ Edward,  ikada zauzeti britansko prijestolje sa svojom suprugom Sophie, ali prije gotovo 30 godina dobio je čudan zahtjev da zauzme visoku i neobičnu poziciju u novoosnovanoj zemlji na obalama Baltičkog mora, pisao je People.

Četvrti sin pokojne kraljice Elizabete II. sada zauzima 14. mjesto na nasljednom redu iza braće i sestara, nećakinja, nećaka i njihove djece. Međutim, bila mu je ponuđena prilika da postane kralj novoosnovane zemlje 1990-ih..

Ova bizarna priča dogodila se 1994. godine, nakon raspada Sovjetskog Saveza, kada su u istočnoj Europi stvorene mnoge nove zemlje. Jedna od njih bila je Estonija. Na prvim izborima nakon neovisnosti u zemlji, politička stranka pod nazivom Neovisna kraljevska stranka Estonije osvojila je osam mjesta u parlamentu.

Sunday Telegraph je tada otkrio da je vođa te političke stranke pisao britanskoj kraljevskoj obitelji kako bi pitao hoće li princ Edward postati njihov kralj, jer su mislili da je "savršen" za tu ulogu, piše Vanitatis.

"Vaše podrijetlo kao glumca i televizijskog producenta bilo bi idealno za stvaranje veličanstva koje bi novi kralj zahtijevao za kombiniranje drevne kulture s modernom političkom stvarnošću", napisali su pro-monarhisti u pismu koje je tada citirao Sunday Telegraph.

Nakon neočekivanog zahtjeva, Buckinghamska palača odgovorila je pismeno pristojno, ali čvrsto, rekavši da je to "lijepa ideja, ali malo vjerojatna".

Ova bizarna priča dogodila se 1994. godine, nakon raspada Sovjetskog Saveza, kada su u istočnoj Europi stvorene mnoge nove zemlje. Jedna od njih bila je Estonija. Na prvim izborima nakon neovisnosti u zemlji, politička stranka pod nazivom Neovisna kraljevska stranka Estonije osvojila je osam mjesta u parlamentu.

Sunday Telegraph je tada otkrio da je vođa te političke stranke pisao britanskoj kraljevskoj obitelji kako bi pitao hoće li princ Edward postati njihov kralj, jer su mislili da je "savršen" za tu ulogu, piše Vanitatis.

"Vaše podrijetlo kao glumca i televizijskog producenta bilo bi idealno za stvaranje veličanstva koje bi novi kralj zahtijevao za kombiniranje drevne kulture s modernom političkom stvarnošću", napisali su pro-monarhisti u pismu koje je tada citirao Sunday Telegraph.

Nakon neočekivanog zahtjeva, Buckinghamska palača odgovorila je pismeno pristojno, ali čvrsto, rekavši da je to "lijepa ideja, ali malo vjerojatna".
