U dolini rijeke Omo u Etiopiji živi nekoliko plemena. Jedno od njih je pleme Mursi koje živi u blizini granice sa Sudanom. Nošnja ovog plemena izuzetno je bogata i raznovrsna, a posebno su prepoznatljive žene koje umeću tanjur u usta, piše National Geographic.

Ne zna se odakle točno dolazi ovaj običaj, ali se vjeruje da on potječe iz vremena kad su Afrikom harali lovci na robove. Pretpostavlja se da su se žene namjerno unakažavale kako bi im bile neprivlačne, pa time i izbjegle ropstvo.
Pored te, postoje još dve teorije. Jedna kaže da Mursi veruju da zli duhovi ulaze na usta, pa se pomoću tanjura od njih brane. Druga teorija kaže da veličina tanjura komunicira koliki je miraz njegove vlasnice.
