Sudeći po prognozama, prva polovica ovogodišnjeg ljeta bit će obilježena čestim neverinima, obilnim pljuskovima te lokalnim grmljavinama. Slučaj iz okolice Novog Pazara na Sandžaku, gdje je 14-godišnji pastir smrtno stradao od udara groma, skreće pažnju na ovu iznimnu atmosfersku opasnost koju mnogi smatraju višom silom protiv koje se ne može puno napraviti. Postoje, međutim, itekako djelotvorne preventivne radnje koje svoj puni rezon dobivaju u „sezoni gromova“ što u pravilu traje od proljeća do listopada, s vrhuncem na kraju lipnja i na početku srpnja.

Grmljavinski oblaci uglavnom nastaju na mikrolokacijama i mahom poslijepodne, nakon jutarnjih vrućina i pojačanih isparavanja. U tom smislu šira vremenska prognoza ne može uvijek biti od neke velike i precizne pomoći, no kad aktivnosti „Ilije Gromovnika“ počnu, valja strogo izbjegavati biti na otvorenoj poljani, uz usamljeno drvo, ili u vodi (bilo da je riječ o moru, potoku ili jezeru). Zatekne li koga oluja i vatromet elektriciteta na čistini, pomaže i najobičnije zalijeganje u šiblje, travu ili šikaru: važno je samo da se ne previše ne strši. Najbolji je zaklon ipak zatvoreni prostor, bilo da je riječ o kući ili automobilu.

Udar groma u automobil je itekako moguć, no njegova konstrukcija to može podnijeti bez ikakvih posljedica po putnike jer zapravo predstavlja Faradayev kavez koji blokira elektricitet. Automobil je dobro uzemljen, tek naknadno može doći do zapaljenja električnih instalacija zbog udara i požara kao sekundarne posljedice, no to su situacije u kojima se putnici u pravilu imaju dovoljno vremena skloniti na sigurno. Ako čovjek ikako povuče elektricitet iz munje, valja ga hitno uzemljiti, tj. zakopati u pijesak ili zemlju te mu omogućiti brzo pražnjenje.

U slučaju da vas grmljavina zatekne na plovilu u moru, znatno manja je vjerojatnost od udara groma u pasari bez kabine ili na skuteru nego u brodici s jarbolom. Veći brodovi svih tipova također su puno češće meta groma od manjih brodica, a što je jarbol viši, to se šanse za privlačenje visoke voltaže multipliciraju. Nije bezazleno ni surfati na dasci, pošto i njezino jedro zna privući struju iz oblaka.

Stanovi i kuće s gromobranima i zaštitnom instalacijom su prilično sigurni kao zaštita od grmljavine; ako vas munja oprži unutar takvog zdanja, riječ je o zaista rijetkoj peguli. Računala, televizori i ostali elektronički uređaji znatno su osjetljiviji pa ih treba preventivno isključiti iz mreže.

Iako je statistička mogućnost da čovjeka ubije grom doista minimalna, godišnje od groma u svijetu pogine skoro 25 tisuća ljudi. Deset puta više – čak četvrt milijuna ljudi – udare groma preživi, ali s manje ili više teškim posljedicama. Malo se zna da nisu odviše opasni gromovi koji nastaju samim sudaranjem oblaka u visini, nego uglavnom oni do kojih dolazi zbog elektriciteta između oblaka i zemlje.

Zbog konfiguracije reljefa, najgromovitija zemlja u našoj regiji je Slovenija: razlozi leže u alpskom masivu, blizini mora i sudaranju više raznih klima na relativno malom prostoru. Slovenija godišnje bilježi više od 60 tisuća udara gromova, a gotovo da nema ni godine kad netko ne pogine.

Svjetski rekord u pogibijama od gromova drži afrički Zimbabve koji ima oko 20 smrti od groma na milijun stanovnika, odnosno prosječno 250 takvih žrtava godišnje. Crna statistika u Zimbabveu nije posljedica naročite gromovitosti, nego prije nepridavanja pažnje toj opasnosti i ležernog ponašanja ljudi dok grmi.  Svjetsko područje gdje su oluje i gromovi najčešći je, inače, sjeveroistok Venezuele gdje godišnje zabilježe barem 200 olujnih dana, a nevere traju i po desetak sati i proizvedu oko 250 gromova svaku uru.

Sudeći po prognozama, prva polovica ovogodišnjeg ljeta bit će obilježena čestim neverinima, obilnim pljuskovima te lokalnim grmljavinama. Slučaj iz okolice Novog Pazara na Sandžaku, gdje je 14-godišnji pastir smrtno stradao od udara groma, skreće pažnju na ovu iznimnu atmosfersku opasnost koju mnogi smatraju višom silom protiv koje se ne može puno napraviti. Postoje, međutim, itekako djelotvorne preventivne radnje koje svoj puni rezon dobivaju u „sezoni gromova“ što u pravilu traje od proljeća do listopada, s vrhuncem na kraju lipnja i na početku srpnja.

Grmljavinski oblaci uglavnom nastaju na mikrolokacijama i mahom poslijepodne, nakon jutarnjih vrućina i pojačanih isparavanja. U tom smislu šira vremenska prognoza ne može uvijek biti od neke velike i precizne pomoći, no kad aktivnosti „Ilije Gromovnika“ počnu, valja strogo izbjegavati biti na otvorenoj poljani, uz usamljeno drvo, ili u vodi (bilo da je riječ o moru, potoku ili jezeru). Zatekne li koga oluja i vatromet elektriciteta na čistini, pomaže i najobičnije zalijeganje u šiblje, travu ili šikaru: važno je samo da se ne previše ne strši. Najbolji je zaklon ipak zatvoreni prostor, bilo da je riječ o kući ili automobilu.

Udar groma u automobil je itekako moguć, no njegova konstrukcija to može podnijeti bez ikakvih posljedica po putnike jer zapravo predstavlja Faradayev kavez koji blokira elektricitet. Automobil je dobro uzemljen, tek naknadno može doći do zapaljenja električnih instalacija zbog udara i požara kao sekundarne posljedice, no to su situacije u kojima se putnici u pravilu imaju dovoljno vremena skloniti na sigurno. Ako čovjek ikako povuče elektricitet iz munje, valja ga hitno uzemljiti, tj. zakopati u pijesak ili zemlju te mu omogućiti brzo pražnjenje.

U slučaju da vas grmljavina zatekne na plovilu u moru, znatno manja je vjerojatnost od udara groma u pasari bez kabine ili na skuteru nego u brodici s jarbolom. Veći brodovi svih tipova također su puno češće meta groma od manjih brodica, a što je jarbol viši, to se šanse za privlačenje visoke voltaže multipliciraju. Nije bezazleno ni surfati na dasci, pošto i njezino jedro zna privući struju iz oblaka.

Stanovi i kuće s gromobranima i zaštitnom instalacijom su prilično sigurni kao zaštita od grmljavine; ako vas munja oprži unutar takvog zdanja, riječ je o zaista rijetkoj peguli. Računala, televizori i ostali elektronički uređaji znatno su osjetljiviji pa ih treba preventivno isključiti iz mreže.

Iako je statistička mogućnost da čovjeka ubije grom doista minimalna, godišnje od groma u svijetu pogine skoro 25 tisuća ljudi. Deset puta više – čak četvrt milijuna ljudi – udare groma preživi, ali s manje ili više teškim posljedicama. Malo se zna da nisu odviše opasni gromovi koji nastaju samim sudaranjem oblaka u visini, nego uglavnom oni do kojih dolazi zbog elektriciteta između oblaka i zemlje.

Zbog konfiguracije reljefa, najgromovitija zemlja u našoj regiji je Slovenija: razlozi leže u alpskom masivu, blizini mora i sudaranju više raznih klima na relativno malom prostoru. Slovenija godišnje bilježi više od 60 tisuća udara gromova, a gotovo da nema ni godine kad netko ne pogine.

Svjetski rekord u pogibijama od gromova drži afrički Zimbabve koji ima oko 20 smrti od groma na milijun stanovnika, odnosno prosječno 250 takvih žrtava godišnje. Crna statistika u Zimbabveu nije posljedica naročite gromovitosti, nego prije nepridavanja pažnje toj opasnosti i ležernog ponašanja ljudi dok grmi.  Svjetsko područje gdje su oluje i gromovi najčešći je, inače, sjeveroistok Venezuele gdje godišnje zabilježe barem 200 olujnih dana, a nevere traju i po desetak sati i proizvedu oko 250 gromova svaku uru.
