"Igre su kulturna sila", poručila je Kate Edwards na panelu o geopolitičkoj dinamici igara. U posljednjih nekoliko godina igrači su prilično negativni prema načinu na koji programeri modeliraju geopolitiku u igrama. Uvijek uvjereni da im netko pokušava poslati poruku s nekom vrstom SJW ("social justice warrior") namjerom, navodi Venture Beat.

Ali globalna dinamika u stvarnom svijetu ima utjecaja na sve, pa tako i na kreatore igara. Kako bi bilo koji igrač očekivao da se sve te stvari koje ih se dotiču ne usade u priče koje pričaju? Sukob u Ukrajini pravovremen je primjer utjecaja geopolitike na industriju igara.

Kate Edwards, geografkinja koja radi na kulturalizaciji industrije igara, konzultantica je koja pomaže tvrtkama koje se bave igrama da razumiju stvarni svijet geopolitike. Razgovarala je o ovim problemima tijekom panela "GamesBeat Summit" prošlog tjedna s programerom igara Yaraslau Kotom, koji je jako uključen u scenu "developera" igara u Rusiji i Ukrajini.

Alexey Menshikov, voditelj studija za igre u Kijevu (a sada izbjeglica u SAD-u), također se pridružio panelu.

Menshikov je bio u DICE-u kad je počeo sukob u Ukrajini. Njegov tim nije mogao izaći iz Kijeva. Surađivao je s drugim nacijama i izveo petnaest članova svog tima i neke članove njihovih obitelji iz zemlje. Njegova najstarija kći izbjegla je zarobljavanje. Provela je tjedan dana u lokalnom skloništu od bombi, zaostalom iz Hladnog rata. Na kraju je pobjegla u Europu. Njegova tvrtka sad se vraća na pravi put u punom kapacitetu. Trebalo im je tri tjedna da ponovno uspostave svoj tijek rada i suradnju. 

Yaraslau Kot je imao prijatelje i obitelj u blizini Kijeva. Ali mnogi programeri mogli su se usredotočiti samo na preživljavanje. Poduzeća se nisu reformirala, a možda nikad i neće.

Kot je izgubio sestru i njezinu obitelj. Mnogi članovi njegove obitelji pridružili su se snagama teritorijalne obrane i još uvijek se bore. On im pokušava pružiti podršku i iz svoje pozicije učiniti koliko može da pomogne.

Edwards pita obojicu: Što za vas znače zapadne tvrtke koje pojačavaju pružanje pomoći Ukrajini? Mislite li da su autentični ili samo pokušavaju privući pozornost?

- Pomoć Ukrajini je velika. Međutim, neke tvrtke propuštaju bit - smatraju oni.

Kot bi želio da te tvrtke više istražuju, a ukrajinskim programerima bi dobro došla izravnija pomoć. "This War of Mine", napominje, nije ukrajinska igra. Sukob u Ukrajini stvorio je okruženje u kojem sada agresivno zapošljavanje također predstavlja problem, s mnogim razvojnim tvrtkama koje se spotiču same o sebe da bi zaposlile ukrajinske programere s nižim plaćama s obzirom na to da nema konkurencije. Zašto ih prije nisu zapošljavali? Jesu, ali ni blizu tako revno...

Menshikov pomaže vjenčanim ukrajinskim programerima s projektima izvan ratom razorene zemlje, pomaže im s vizama, i slično. Čak i u slučajevima kad to može značiti da se taj zaposlenik neće vratiti u svoj razvojni studio.

Sve to ubrzava odljev mozgova. Talenti odlaze s tržišta, tvrtke se utrkuju kako bi ih ugrabili. Edwards pita: Koji su neki od dugoročnih učinaka? 

Menshikov navodi da između 20 i 25 posto "outsourcinga" u industriji ide u Rusiju i Ukrajinu. Novac ponekad prvo ide ruskim tvrtkama. Zatim te tvrtke dobivaju podršku od vanjskih programera u Ukrajini. Lanac opskrbe sad je isključen, a takav bi mogao ostati jako dugo.

Hoće li postojati ukrajinska scena razvoja igara kada ovaj sukob završi?

Još jedan tržišni čimbenik na koji utječe geopolitička dinamika su netočne percepcije koje često dovode do slabe informiranost kreatora igara, koja se preslikava u njihove proizvode. Kot kaže da "postoje mnoga tržišta koja su nerazvijena".

- Rusija je jako malo tržište. Vrlo je precijenjena kao potrošač - rekao je on.

Mnogi potrošači nemaju računala, a u nekim slučajevima čak ni struju. Predani igrači, unatoč sankcijama i embargu, koristit će VPN-ove ili neka druga sredstva za dobivanje igara, što čine ilegalno, dakle ne generirajući nikakav prihod.

Rusija također nije veliko tržište za mobilne telefone jer mnogi Rusi nemaju višak sitniša za mikrotransakcije kako bi prešli preko paywalla. Na kraju, to ruskog potrošača trenutno čini nedostupnim ne samo politički, nego i ekonomski. Pa ipak, mnoge razvojne tvrtke brinu o prodaji igara u Rusiji, o tome da njihova igra dobije odobrenje poput ESRB-a u Rusiji, dok bi druge zemlje poput Mađarske i Bugarske možda trebale dobiti više fokusa i pažnje, navodi Venture Beat.

Uvijek uvjereni da im netko pokušava poslati poruku s nekom vrstom SJW ("social justice warrior") namjerom, navodi Venture Beat.

Ali globalna dinamika u stvarnom svijetu ima utjecaja na sve, pa tako i na kreatore igara. Kako bi bilo koji igrač očekivao da se sve te stvari koje ih se dotiču ne usade u priče koje pričaju? Sukob u Ukrajini pravovremen je primjer utjecaja geopolitike na industriju igara.

Kate Edwards, geografkinja koja radi na kulturalizaciji industrije igara, konzultantica je koja pomaže tvrtkama koje se bave igrama da razumiju stvarni svijet geopolitike. Razgovarala je o ovim problemima tijekom panela "GamesBeat Summit" prošlog tjedna s programerom igara Yaraslau Kotom, koji je jako uključen u scenu "developera" igara u Rusiji i Ukrajini.

Alexey Menshikov, voditelj studija za igre u Kijevu (a sada izbjeglica u SAD-u), također se pridružio panelu.

Menshikov je bio u DICE-u kad je počeo sukob u Ukrajini. Njegov tim nije mogao izaći iz Kijeva. Surađivao je s drugim nacijama i izveo petnaest članova svog tima i neke članove njihovih obitelji iz zemlje. Njegova najstarija kći izbjegla je zarobljavanje. Provela je tjedan dana u lokalnom skloništu od bombi, zaostalom iz Hladnog rata. Na kraju je pobjegla u Europu. Njegova tvrtka sad se vraća na pravi put u punom kapacitetu. Trebalo im je tri tjedna da ponovno uspostave svoj tijek rada i suradnju. 

Yaraslau Kot je imao prijatelje i obitelj u blizini Kijeva. Ali mnogi programeri mogli su se usredotočiti samo na preživljavanje. Poduzeća se nisu reformirala, a možda nikad i neće.

Kot je izgubio sestru i njezinu obitelj. Mnogi članovi njegove obitelji pridružili su se snagama teritorijalne obrane i još uvijek se bore. On im pokušava pružiti podršku i iz svoje pozicije učiniti koliko može da pomogne.

Edwards pita obojicu: Što za vas znače zapadne tvrtke koje pojačavaju pružanje pomoći Ukrajini? Mislite li da su autentični ili samo pokušavaju privući pozornost?

- Pomoć Ukrajini je velika. Međutim, neke tvrtke propuštaju bit - smatraju oni.

Kot bi želio da te tvrtke više istražuju, a ukrajinskim programerima bi dobro došla izravnija pomoć. "This War of Mine", napominje, nije ukrajinska igra. Sukob u Ukrajini stvorio je okruženje u kojem sada agresivno zapošljavanje također predstavlja problem, s mnogim razvojnim tvrtkama koje se spotiču same o sebe da bi zaposlile ukrajinske programere s nižim plaćama s obzirom na to da nema konkurencije. Zašto ih prije nisu zapošljavali? Jesu, ali ni blizu tako revno...

Menshikov pomaže vjenčanim ukrajinskim programerima s projektima izvan ratom razorene zemlje, pomaže im s vizama, i slično. Čak i u slučajevima kad to može značiti da se taj zaposlenik neće vratiti u svoj razvojni studio.

Sve to ubrzava odljev mozgova. Talenti odlaze s tržišta, tvrtke se utrkuju kako bi ih ugrabili. Edwards pita: Koji su neki od dugoročnih učinaka? 

Menshikov navodi da između 20 i 25 posto "outsourcinga" u industriji ide u Rusiju i Ukrajinu. Novac ponekad prvo ide ruskim tvrtkama. Zatim te tvrtke dobivaju podršku od vanjskih programera u Ukrajini. Lanac opskrbe sad je isključen, a takav bi mogao ostati jako dugo.

Hoće li postojati ukrajinska scena razvoja igara kada ovaj sukob završi?

Još jedan tržišni čimbenik na koji utječe geopolitička dinamika su netočne percepcije koje često dovode do slabe informiranost kreatora igara, koja se preslikava u njihove proizvode. Kot kaže da "postoje mnoga tržišta koja su nerazvijena".

- Rusija je jako malo tržište. Vrlo je precijenjena kao potrošač - rekao je on.

Mnogi potrošači nemaju računala, a u nekim slučajevima čak ni struju. Predani igrači, unatoč sankcijama i embargu, koristit će VPN-ove ili neka druga sredstva za dobivanje igara, što čine ilegalno, dakle ne generirajući nikakav prihod.

Rusija također nije veliko tržište za mobilne telefone jer mnogi Rusi nemaju višak sitniša za mikrotransakcije kako bi prešli preko paywalla. Na kraju, to ruskog potrošača trenutno čini nedostupnim ne samo politički, nego i ekonomski. Pa ipak, mnoge razvojne tvrtke brinu o prodaji igara u Rusiji, o tome da njihova igra dobije odobrenje poput ESRB-a u Rusiji, dok bi druge zemlje poput Mađarske i Bugarske možda trebale dobiti više fokusa i pažnje, navodi Venture Beat.
