Taj se kaput počeo masovno proizvoditi 1914. kada su ga radi zaštite od kiše i vjetra počeli nositi britanski časnici u Prvom svjetskom ratu.
Modna kuća Burberry sinonim je za francuski baloner, a najnoviju kolekciju predstavila je na nedavnom Londonskom tjednu mode.
Osnivač Burberrya, Thomas Burberry, dizajnirao je prvi baloner krajem
19. stoljeća. Te 1870. izradio ga je od materijala koji će kasnije
postati poznat kao gabarden, cijenjen zbog nepropusnosti.
I polarni istraživači Roald Amundsen, Ernest Shackleton i Robert Falcon Scott eksperimentirali su s materijalom koji ne propušta vlagu, ali ipak "diše".
Najteži test položio je tijekom Prvog svjetskog rata kada su ga časnici u rovovima nosili umjesto puno težeg zimskog kaputa.
Thomas Burberry dodao mu je remenje na ramenima i oko struka pa su
vojnici o njih mogli zakačiti opremu. Remeni na rukavima omogućavali su
vojnicima da ih po potrebi zategnu, a prednjih deset dugmadi održavalo
toplinu prsiju, dok se preko velike stražnje kragne ocjeđivala kiša.
To je toliko impresioniralo britanske generale da su 1908. počeli naručivati goleme količine balonera.
Kaput kakav su nosili vojnici u Prvom svjetskom ratu gotovo da se nije promijenio tijekom idućeg stoljeća i Burberry ih je nastavio proizvoditi na sjeveru Engleske.
Prema pravilima tvrtke, mladi krojači morali su vježbati godinu dana prije nego što su počeli izrađivati balonere.
Devedesetih godina 20. stoljeća Burberry je upao u krizu i umalo bankrotirao, a direktorica tvrtke Angela Ahrendts tada je okrenula stvari naglavačke i vratila Burberry svojim korjenima, izradi balonera.
"Otkako je Thomas Burberry prije 150 godina izumio gabarden, izrada odjeće koja se nosi na otvorenom bila je srce naše proizvodnje, a to vrijedi i danas. Najbolji dokaz tome je naš baloner koji je postao modna ikona", napisala je Ahrendts u posljednjem izvješću prije prelaska u Apple.
Tvrtka je s njom na čelu doslovno procvjetala. Između 2006. i 2013. promet se gotovo udvostručio na oko 3,5 milijardi dolara.

Taj se kaput počeo masovno proizvoditi 1914. kada su ga radi zaštite od kiše i vjetra počeli nositi britanski časnici u Prvom svjetskom ratu.
Modna kuća Burberry sinonim je za francuski baloner, a najnoviju kolekciju predstavila je na nedavnom Londonskom tjednu mode.
Osnivač Burberrya, Thomas Burberry, dizajnirao je prvi baloner krajem
19. stoljeća. Te 1870. izradio ga je od materijala koji će kasnije
postati poznat kao gabarden, cijenjen zbog nepropusnosti.
I polarni istraživači Roald Amundsen, Ernest Shackleton i Robert Falcon Scott eksperimentirali su s materijalom koji ne propušta vlagu, ali ipak "diše".
Najteži test položio je tijekom Prvog svjetskog rata kada su ga časnici u rovovima nosili umjesto puno težeg zimskog kaputa.
Thomas Burberry dodao mu je remenje na ramenima i oko struka pa su
vojnici o njih mogli zakačiti opremu. Remeni na rukavima omogućavali su
vojnicima da ih po potrebi zategnu, a prednjih deset dugmadi održavalo
toplinu prsiju, dok se preko velike stražnje kragne ocjeđivala kiša.
To je toliko impresioniralo britanske generale da su 1908. počeli naručivati goleme količine balonera.
Kaput kakav su nosili vojnici u Prvom svjetskom ratu gotovo da se nije promijenio tijekom idućeg stoljeća i Burberry ih je nastavio proizvoditi na sjeveru Engleske.
Prema pravilima tvrtke, mladi krojači morali su vježbati godinu dana prije nego što su počeli izrađivati balonere.
Devedesetih godina 20. stoljeća Burberry je upao u krizu i umalo bankrotirao, a direktorica tvrtke Angela Ahrendts tada je okrenula stvari naglavačke i vratila Burberry svojim korjenima, izradi balonera.
"Otkako je Thomas Burberry prije 150 godina izumio gabarden, izrada odjeće koja se nosi na otvorenom bila je srce naše proizvodnje, a to vrijedi i danas. Najbolji dokaz tome je naš baloner koji je postao modna ikona", napisala je Ahrendts u posljednjem izvješću prije prelaska u Apple.
Tvrtka je s njom na čelu doslovno procvjetala. Između 2006. i 2013. promet se gotovo udvostručio na oko 3,5 milijardi dolara.
