White riot, I wanna riot, White riot, a riot of my own... Stihovi kultnog punk benda Clash praše u dokumentarcu sa Subversive Film Festivala, naslovljenom po njegovoj pjesmi "White Riot". Energična Clashova pjesma bila je himna legendarnog aktivističkog "open air" koncerta u londonskom Victoria Parku 1978., održanog pod parolom "Rock Against Racism" (RAR).

Sam koncert, gdje je s Clashom nastupio Jimmy Pursey iz Sham 69, a svirali su i Tom Robinson, Steel Pulse, X-Ray Spex..., zaslužio je dokumentarac kao svojevrsna britanska inačica Woodstocka, premda glavna figura RAR-a Red Saunders u filmu inzistira kako "ovo nije Woodstock" jer "ovo je karneval protiv jebenih nacija".

Međutim, redateljici Rubiki Shah bilo je bitnije prikazati formiranje RAR pokreta od fanzina do organizacije koncerta za borbu protiv rasizma i neonacizma. Koncert je ostavljen kao prirodna kulminacija 80-minutnog dokumentarca koji njime prebrzo završava, a mogao je trajati još barem pola sata do 45 minuta.

Dakle, "White Riot" je prije svega društveno-politički, pa tek onda rockersko-punkerski koncertni dokumentarac, ali svejedno je dobar i vrijedan gledanja. Shah vješto isprepliće politiku i rock, odnosno punk. Drugo je bilo odgovor na prvo i neposredno iniciralo RAR pokret kao odgovor na ekstremno desničarenje Nacionalne fronte koja je rasizmom trovala i oblikovala mlade britanske umove.

Punk kultura u naletu utjecala je na RAR koji se, pak, potrudio da punkeri ne postanu desničari angažmanom Clasha, benda koji je imao sve samo ne crno-bijeli pogled na svijet, vidljiv i u pjesmi "White Riot". To su neki od njih možda mogli postati vidjevši jednog od punk heroja Sida Viciousa kako nosi crvenu majicu sa svastikom, mada je basist Sex Pistolsa time htio šokirati i provocirati, navesti društvo da se zarumeni od neugode, a ne podržavati naci-ideologiju.

Dokumentarac zorno prikazuje kako roditelji i okolina formiraju stavove i pogled na svijet. Osnivači i članovi rođeni su u Nigeriji, njihovi očevi su izvještavali o Praškom proljeću, majke svjedočile nepravdi prema Aboriđinima... S druge strane, u Engleskoj su tadašnji političari, poput Enocha Powella, propagirali mržnju i rasističku "Britanija Britancima" ideologiju spram crnaca i imigranata, a likovi u TV serijama i emisijama ih vrijeđali u humoristične svrhe.

"Skinheadsima" je, utoliko, bilo "normalno" napadati nebijele ljude, posebice što se policija, u dosluhu s državnim vrhom, nerijetko oglušivala na napade i nasilno reagirala na one koji su prosvjedovali protiv tog i takvog nasilja. Nisu pomogli ni neki glazbenici svojim nepromišljenim izjavama, poput Davida Bowieja ("Britanija je spremna na fašističkog vođu"), ili stavovima.

Primjerice Eric Clapton je, kao i Rod Stweart, objavio podršku Powellu, iako njegov blues ima crnačke korijene, uslijed čega su ga prozvali "kolonizatorom crne muzike". Film je fina društvena kronika jedne ere, a u prilog mu ide i moderna kontekstualizacija rasnog nasilja i diskriminacije.

Redateljica se ne mora eksplicitno povlačiti paralele s današnjicom, tipa da priloži neke biserne anti-imigrantske izjave Morrisseyja ili insertira scenu napada bijelih supremacista na prosvjednike u Charlotesvilleu kao Spike Lee u "Crnom članu KKKlana", makar Steel Pulse na koncertu nastupio u KKK odori. Paralele se, naime, povlače same od sebe.

Gledajući dokumentarne prizore kad britanski policajci hvataju prosvjednike protiv rasističkog nasilja u klinč pred očima vam se smjesta nacrta George Floyd, a suzbijanje prosvjeda i nereda doziva friške ovogodišnje scene od Amerike do Francuske. Jeka povijesti odzvanja u sadašnjosti, društveno-političkom krajobrazu u kojem bujaju rasističke i neonacističke tendencije, što samo povećava vrijednost filma, dokumenta(rca) jednog prošlog nesvršenog vremena.

"White Riot" pokazuje da vrijedi pružiti otporu protiv nečeg lošeg i pokušati mijenjati svijet nabolje. Nacionalna fronta je bila poražena na izborima 1979., godinu dana nakon što su Clash i ekipa isprašili tur rasistima i neonacistima, ali borba još ni približno nije gotova. White riot, I wanna riot...

White riot, I wanna riot, White riot, a riot of my own... Stihovi kultnog punk benda Clash praše u dokumentarcu sa Subversive Film Festivala, naslovljenom po njegovoj pjesmi "White Riot". Energična Clashova pjesma bila je himna legendarnog aktivističkog "open air" koncerta u londonskom Victoria Parku 1978., održanog pod parolom "Rock Against Racism" (RAR).

Sam koncert, gdje je s Clashom nastupio Jimmy Pursey iz Sham 69, a svirali su i Tom Robinson, Steel Pulse, X-Ray Spex..., zaslužio je dokumentarac kao svojevrsna britanska inačica Woodstocka, premda glavna figura RAR-a Red Saunders u filmu inzistira kako "ovo nije Woodstock" jer "ovo je karneval protiv jebenih nacija".

Međutim, redateljici Rubiki Shah bilo je bitnije prikazati formiranje RAR pokreta od fanzina do organizacije koncerta za borbu protiv rasizma i neonacizma. Koncert je ostavljen kao prirodna kulminacija 80-minutnog dokumentarca koji njime prebrzo završava, a mogao je trajati još barem pola sata do 45 minuta.

Dakle, "White Riot" je prije svega društveno-politički, pa tek onda rockersko-punkerski koncertni dokumentarac, ali svejedno je dobar i vrijedan gledanja. Shah vješto isprepliće politiku i rock, odnosno punk. Drugo je bilo odgovor na prvo i neposredno iniciralo RAR pokret kao odgovor na ekstremno desničarenje Nacionalne fronte koja je rasizmom trovala i oblikovala mlade britanske umove.

Punk kultura u naletu utjecala je na RAR koji se, pak, potrudio da punkeri ne postanu desničari angažmanom Clasha, benda koji je imao sve samo ne crno-bijeli pogled na svijet, vidljiv i u pjesmi "White Riot". To su neki od njih možda mogli postati vidjevši jednog od punk heroja Sida Viciousa kako nosi crvenu majicu sa svastikom, mada je basist Sex Pistolsa time htio šokirati i provocirati, navesti društvo da se zarumeni od neugode, a ne podržavati naci-ideologiju.

Dokumentarac zorno prikazuje kako roditelji i okolina formiraju stavove i pogled na svijet. Osnivači i članovi rođeni su u Nigeriji, njihovi očevi su izvještavali o Praškom proljeću, majke svjedočile nepravdi prema Aboriđinima... S druge strane, u Engleskoj su tadašnji političari, poput Enocha Powella, propagirali mržnju i rasističku "Britanija Britancima" ideologiju spram crnaca i imigranata, a likovi u TV serijama i emisijama ih vrijeđali u humoristične svrhe.

"Skinheadsima" je, utoliko, bilo "normalno" napadati nebijele ljude, posebice što se policija, u dosluhu s državnim vrhom, nerijetko oglušivala na napade i nasilno reagirala na one koji su prosvjedovali protiv tog i takvog nasilja. Nisu pomogli ni neki glazbenici svojim nepromišljenim izjavama, poput Davida Bowieja ("Britanija je spremna na fašističkog vođu"), ili stavovima.

Primjerice Eric Clapton je, kao i Rod Stweart, objavio podršku Powellu, iako njegov blues ima crnačke korijene, uslijed čega su ga prozvali "kolonizatorom crne muzike". Film je fina društvena kronika jedne ere, a u prilog mu ide i moderna kontekstualizacija rasnog nasilja i diskriminacije.

Redateljica se ne mora eksplicitno povlačiti paralele s današnjicom, tipa da priloži neke biserne anti-imigrantske izjave Morrisseyja ili insertira scenu napada bijelih supremacista na prosvjednike u Charlotesvilleu kao Spike Lee u "Crnom članu KKKlana", makar Steel Pulse na koncertu nastupio u KKK odori. Paralele se, naime, povlače same od sebe.

Gledajući dokumentarne prizore kad britanski policajci hvataju prosvjednike protiv rasističkog nasilja u klinč pred očima vam se smjesta nacrta George Floyd, a suzbijanje prosvjeda i nereda doziva friške ovogodišnje scene od Amerike do Francuske. Jeka povijesti odzvanja u sadašnjosti, društveno-političkom krajobrazu u kojem bujaju rasističke i neonacističke tendencije, što samo povećava vrijednost filma, dokumenta(rca) jednog prošlog nesvršenog vremena.

"White Riot" pokazuje da vrijedi pružiti otporu protiv nečeg lošeg i pokušati mijenjati svijet nabolje. Nacionalna fronta je bila poražena na izborima 1979., godinu dana nakon što su Clash i ekipa isprašili tur rasistima i neonacistima, ali borba još ni približno nije gotova. White riot, I wanna riot...
