Netflix nastavlja s intrigantnim dokumentarcima o poznatim facama: nakon doku-serije "Arnold", premijeru je na streaming servisu imao i film "Wham!". Kako naslov sugerira, "Wham!" kronicira planetarni uspjeh istoimenoga britanskog pop-sastava od 1982. do 1986., nadovezujući se na recentni val dokumentaraca o glazbenicima ("Whitney", "Western Stars", "Moonage Daydream"...) ili glazbenim događajima ("Summer Of Soul").

Pritom, redatelj Chris Smith čini to na nesvakidašnji način unutar dokumentarne forme. Umjesto da je posegnuo za "talking heads" intervjuima, Smith je osovio "Wham!" oko arhivskih audio/videosnimaka članova sastava, Andrewa Ridgeleyja i pokojnog Georgea Michaela, koji se dosad nisu čuli/vidjeli. Michael i Ridgeley komentiraju vlastitu karijeru i preuzimaju ulogu vodiča kroz priču o njihovu meteorskom usponu kad su bili preteča boy bendova.

Povratak u osamdesete

"Wham!" se dotiče ključnih biografskih/diskografskih crtica sastava, od anegdote kako je naslovljen veliki hit "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go", preko snimanja spota za "Last Christmas" (Michael je, simbolično i ironično, umro na Božić 2016.), do nastupa u Kini, Americi i na "Live Aid" koncertu, kad je poznatiji član sastava pjevao s Eltonom Johnom "Don‘t Let The Sun Go Down on Me" i bilo je jasno da je spreman za samostalnu karijeru.

Međutim, dokumentarac u ekonomičnih 90 minuta otkriva i neke manje poznate ili neotkrivene stvari o Whamu, a to nije samo prva demosnimka megahita "Careless Whisper". Ridgeley i Michael upoznali su se u osnovnoj školi. Potonji, tada znan po pravom imenu Georgios Panayiotou, bio je novi učenik u razredu. Kad je učiteljica pitala tko će se za njega pobrinuti, Ridgeley je prvi podignuo ruku.

Dječaci su se odmah sprijateljili: povezala ih je ljubav prema glazbi, kojom su se počeli aktivno baviti u nadolazećim godinama, formirali Wham! 1981. i do dvadesete se vinuli u zvijezde i seks-simbole milijuna mladih žena, a njihov uspjeh je u spomenaru bilježila Ridgeleyjeva mama.

Bilo je to u vrijeme kad je pop osamdesetih postajao novi dominantni zvuk i formirao hedonističku dekadu nakon punka koji je kasnih sedamdesetih funkcionirao kao kritika društva. "Sad ljudi radije odu u disko i zaborave da su nezaposleni", objašnjava Michael promjenu.

‘Coming out‘ na Ibizi

Fanovi osamdesetih ponovno će proživjeti desetljeće zaraznih pop-hitova, šarenih odjevnih kombinacija i karakterističnih frizura u ovoj dokumentarnoj vremenskoj kapsuli s okusom kolačića "madeleine". "Viziju sjajnog popa" s utjecajem funka imao je Ridgeley i isprve bio vođa sastava koji je postao "čisti Wham!" pjesmom "Club Tropicana".

S vremenom je Ridgeley pao u drugi plan kad je Michael većinski preuzeo ulogu tekstopisca i producenta, ali među dvojcem nije bilo tenzija i prijateljstvo je izdržalo promjenu u dinamici sastava. Štoviše, Ridgeley je bio velika podrška Michaelu kad je ovaj napravio "coming out" na Ibizi, otkrio prijatelju da je gay i da mu je teško glumiti seks-simbola za "tisuće djevojaka koje vrište", odnosno da ispada kako pjeva pjesme o ženama, ne čežnji prema drugom muškarcu ("Nothing Looks The Same In The Light").

"Oh, Bože, ja sam velika zvijezda i gay", notira Michael. Prijateljstvo dvojice prijatelja iz djetinjstva pokretačka je snaga emotivnog dokumentarca koji je posvećen sjećanju na zvjezdanog Michaela, ali njegova zvijezda iz sjene ispada Ridgeley, kao što je to bio i u Whamu.

Rijetko tko bi, pored vlastita ega, (do)pustio da drugi član sastava bude u centru pažnje i da njegov talent dobije puni zamah, a Ridgeley je upravo to napravio za svog prijetelja i bio je svjestan da "Wham neće nikad doživjeti sredovječje". Kad je Whamu došao kraj nakon četiri godine zbog Michaelova kretanja u solo vode, za Ridgeleyja je to bilo "buđenje usred snova", ali svejedno se probudio.

Sve što je lijepo kratko traje, od Whamove karijere do ovog dokumentarca. Osjećaj rastanka i kraja jednog lijepog razdoblja u nečijem životu vrlo je snažno izražen u filmu. Uz "Wham!" gledatelj bi mogao ponovno proživjeti ne samo osamdesete, nego i neka davna prijateljstva iz djetinjstva ili mladosti kojima je morao doći kraj.

Ridgeley se povukao iz javnosti, ali imao je "cameo" ulogu u romantičnoj komediji "Last Christmas" 2019. godine.

Netflix nastavlja s intrigantnim dokumentarcima o poznatim facama: nakon doku-serije "Arnold", premijeru je na streaming servisu imao i film "Wham!". Kako naslov sugerira, "Wham!" kronicira planetarni uspjeh istoimenoga britanskog pop-sastava od 1982. do 1986., nadovezujući se na recentni val dokumentaraca o glazbenicima ("Whitney", "Western Stars", "Moonage Daydream"...) ili glazbenim događajima ("Summer Of Soul").

Pritom, redatelj Chris Smith čini to na nesvakidašnji način unutar dokumentarne forme. Umjesto da je posegnuo za "talking heads" intervjuima, Smith je osovio "Wham!" oko arhivskih audio/videosnimaka članova sastava, Andrewa Ridgeleyja i pokojnog Georgea Michaela, koji se dosad nisu čuli/vidjeli. Michael i Ridgeley komentiraju vlastitu karijeru i preuzimaju ulogu vodiča kroz priču o njihovu meteorskom usponu kad su bili preteča boy bendova.

Povratak u osamdesete

"Wham!" se dotiče ključnih biografskih/diskografskih crtica sastava, od anegdote kako je naslovljen veliki hit "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go", preko snimanja spota za "Last Christmas" (Michael je, simbolično i ironično, umro na Božić 2016.), do nastupa u Kini, Americi i na "Live Aid" koncertu, kad je poznatiji član sastava pjevao s Eltonom Johnom "Don‘t Let The Sun Go Down on Me" i bilo je jasno da je spreman za samostalnu karijeru.

Međutim, dokumentarac u ekonomičnih 90 minuta otkriva i neke manje poznate ili neotkrivene stvari o Whamu, a to nije samo prva demosnimka megahita "Careless Whisper". Ridgeley i Michael upoznali su se u osnovnoj školi. Potonji, tada znan po pravom imenu Georgios Panayiotou, bio je novi učenik u razredu. Kad je učiteljica pitala tko će se za njega pobrinuti, Ridgeley je prvi podignuo ruku.

Dječaci su se odmah sprijateljili: povezala ih je ljubav prema glazbi, kojom su se počeli aktivno baviti u nadolazećim godinama, formirali Wham! 1981. i do dvadesete se vinuli u zvijezde i seks-simbole milijuna mladih žena, a njihov uspjeh je u spomenaru bilježila Ridgeleyjeva mama.

Bilo je to u vrijeme kad je pop osamdesetih postajao novi dominantni zvuk i formirao hedonističku dekadu nakon punka koji je kasnih sedamdesetih funkcionirao kao kritika društva. "Sad ljudi radije odu u disko i zaborave da su nezaposleni", objašnjava Michael promjenu.

‘Coming out‘ na Ibizi

Fanovi osamdesetih ponovno će proživjeti desetljeće zaraznih pop-hitova, šarenih odjevnih kombinacija i karakterističnih frizura u ovoj dokumentarnoj vremenskoj kapsuli s okusom kolačića "madeleine". "Viziju sjajnog popa" s utjecajem funka imao je Ridgeley i isprve bio vođa sastava koji je postao "čisti Wham!" pjesmom "Club Tropicana".

S vremenom je Ridgeley pao u drugi plan kad je Michael većinski preuzeo ulogu tekstopisca i producenta, ali među dvojcem nije bilo tenzija i prijateljstvo je izdržalo promjenu u dinamici sastava. Štoviše, Ridgeley je bio velika podrška Michaelu kad je ovaj napravio "coming out" na Ibizi, otkrio prijatelju da je gay i da mu je teško glumiti seks-simbola za "tisuće djevojaka koje vrište", odnosno da ispada kako pjeva pjesme o ženama, ne čežnji prema drugom muškarcu ("Nothing Looks The Same In The Light").

"Oh, Bože, ja sam velika zvijezda i gay", notira Michael. Prijateljstvo dvojice prijatelja iz djetinjstva pokretačka je snaga emotivnog dokumentarca koji je posvećen sjećanju na zvjezdanog Michaela, ali njegova zvijezda iz sjene ispada Ridgeley, kao što je to bio i u Whamu.

Rijetko tko bi, pored vlastita ega, (do)pustio da drugi član sastava bude u centru pažnje i da njegov talent dobije puni zamah, a Ridgeley je upravo to napravio za svog prijetelja i bio je svjestan da "Wham neće nikad doživjeti sredovječje". Kad je Whamu došao kraj nakon četiri godine zbog Michaelova kretanja u solo vode, za Ridgeleyja je to bilo "buđenje usred snova", ali svejedno se probudio.

Sve što je lijepo kratko traje, od Whamove karijere do ovog dokumentarca. Osjećaj rastanka i kraja jednog lijepog razdoblja u nečijem životu vrlo je snažno izražen u filmu. Uz "Wham!" gledatelj bi mogao ponovno proživjeti ne samo osamdesete, nego i neka davna prijateljstva iz djetinjstva ili mladosti kojima je morao doći kraj.
