Sahranjeni film devedesetih "Upoznajte Joea Blacka" (1998.), promašaj kod najvećeg dijela kritike i publike, uskrsnuo je prošle godine iz "mrtvih" i postao "viralna senzacija" kad je netko na Twitter postavio jednu od njegovih uvodnih scena. Za izvlačenje filma iz naftalina zaslužna je scena kad lika Brada Pitta udari ne jedan, nego dva automobila, konkretno kombi koji ga odbaci na taksi, odakle nesretnik pada na kolnik.

To više govori o poremećenim vrijednostima današnjeg svijeta nego filmu Martina Bresta, jednom od najpodcjenjenijih iz devedesetih. "Viralne senzacije" s najviše "likeova" i "shareova" postaju raznorazne bizarnosti, bedastoće i morbidnosti, "memeovi" i GIF-ovi bez ikakvog respekta prema filmovima, glumcima itd.

U današnjem svijetu, znači, više vrijedi Pittova pogibija nego njegove romantične scene s predivnom Claire Forlani ili životno afirmirajuće s Anthonyjem Hopkinsom koje su potpisniku ovih redaka bile razlog da se filmu vrati pred njegovo emitiranje na Fox Movies.

Scena je nekoć bila neočekivana i subverzivna, dakle da ljepuškasti Pitt da strada na tako ružan način. Danas, u eri sveopćeg cinizma, osobito spram svemu romantičnom, scena je predmet sprdnje i nije baš potaknula nove generacije da pogledaju cijeli "Meet Joe Black".

Sudeći po komentarima, odbija ih "zloglasno" trosatno trajanje koje je i nekoć istaknuto kao glavna mana filma jer kako neka moderna romansa može dosegnuti blizu tri sata, ako eventualno nije "Engleski pacijent" ili "Titanic".

Licemjerstvo i dvojaka mjerila nekad i sad. Izuzev pokojna velikana Rogera Eberta, većina kritičara-grobara pokopala je "Upoznajte Joea Blacka" u realnom vremenu; tri sata su im bila previše za jedan hollywoodski romantični film, dok su istovremeno premalo za, primjerice, sedmosatnu art dramu "Sotonski tango" Bele Tarra.

Dvadeset i jednu godinu kasnije, ista meta, različito odstojanje, još frapantnije u užurbanom vremenu netrpeljivosti i nestrpljenja, kad je "svakog gosta tri sata dosta". Novim generacijama su tri sata "too much" za gledanje "Joea Blacka", ali će bez problema naći vremena i "bindžati" neku seriju čije je trajanje dvostruko ili trostruko duže, a kvaliteta isto toliko puta "kraća".

Okej, film je mogao preživjeti bez širenja korporativnog podzapleta i prolongiranja kraja (i Pittova jamajčanskog naglaska), no takav kakav jest svejedno je dobar. S njegovim trajanjem ovaj gledatelj nije imao poteškoća krajem devedesetih u kinu "Central", posebice ne danas, i to ne samo zato što bi mogao satima gledati strastvenu Forlani u krupnom planu i slušati još strastveniju glazbu nesuđenog oskarovca Thomasa Newmana (od "Iskupljenja u Shawshanku", "Vrtloga života"... do "1917").

Naime, danas je savršeno jasno da je posrijedi (bila) neužurbana meditacija o životu, ljubavi i smrti pa tek onda romantična/ljubavna drama sa zvjezdanim Pittom koja je, kao, trebala ispričati neku novu "Legendu o jeseni", a ustvari je njegovim tinejdžerskim obožavateljicama subverzivno podvalila "movie" za odrasliju/zreliju publiku.

Ništa kontra "Legends Of The Fall", ali "Meet Joe Black" je, osobno, draži i bolji. Čak i kad film ne teče sto posto "prirodno", kad su vidljive prevelike pauze u dijalozima i naslućena pedanterijska naštimavanja između "rezova", uključujući Pittovu zlatnu kosu, spontanim i stvarnim čini ga glumčeva kemija s Forlani, iskazana u uvodnoj rom-com sceni, ambijentiranoj u kafić.

Ondje Susan (Forlani) upoznaje bezimenog muškarca (Pitt) koji u njoj izaziva sve o čemu joj je prethodno govorio otac, superuspješni medijski mogul/milijunaš Bill Parrish (Hopkins), vidjevši da u njezinoj vezi s njegovom "desnom rukom" Drewom (Jake Weber) nema iskre i uzbuđenja.

"Želim da se zaneseš, da lebdiš, da pjevaš ushićeno i plešeš poput derviša", govori Bill kćerki i zauzima samoobrambeni stav ispred filma za sve antiromantičare koji bi ga mogli (i jesu) nazvati "otrcanim". "Znam da je otrcano, ali ljubav je opsesija. Proći kroz život bez nje je kao da nisi živjela", kaže Bill i predlaže kćerki "zaboravi mozak, slušaj srce" jer "munja može udariti".

Munja udara i to ne bi mogli čuti samo oni koji nisu nikad s nekim doživjeli kemiju na prvi pogled ili razgovor. Međutim, nakon rom-coma slijedi rom-dram, romantična drama "visokog koncepta" (i) o ljubavi, ne ljubavna drama "per se". Ljubav ima više vrsta u filmu (romantična, očinska...), a visoki koncept krije se u premisi da Smrt preuzima tijelo stradalog Pittova lika i traži od Billa da bude njezin vodič za razgledavanje Zemlje prije nego što ga povede i tako on zauzvrat dobiva više vremena.

Smrt se nalazi na odmoru u "Meet Joe Black", nadahnutom filmom "Death Takes a Holiday" iz 1934. godine. Rekli bismo "na dopustu", ali to je teško s obzirom da Smrt izgleda poput Pitta i Pitt joj dobro pristaje. Nije Smrt, nazvana Joe Black, luda u odabiru Pittova lika za tijelo (ljepota) i Billa za životnog vodiča (bogatstvo), premda film ponajprije njeguje "down to Earth" pristup visokom konceptu dok se nalazi u društvu na visokoj nozi.

U osnovi je koncept "fish out of water" i Joe Black se ponaša gotovo kao Schwarzeneggerov lik u hit-komediji "Blizanci", nevino pristupajući novim otkrićima, poput slatkog maslaca od kikirikija, odnosno još slađeg poljupca sa Susan i vođenja ljubavi. Nakon toga Joe Black osjeća slabost u koljenima, srce mu lupa brže i zbunjen je zbog ljubavi.

Bilo je tu, očito, štofa za (crnu) komediju ("Kći mi se zaljubila u Smrt!") koja bi se vrlo lako mogla oteti kontroli. Redatelj Brest, poznat po (akcijskim) komedijama ("Policajac s Beverly Hillsa", "Ponoćna utrka"), prepoznao je to i zadržao dramski kurs zacrtan "Mirisom žene".

Brest je u tom filmu pokazivao natruhe perfekcionizma, a u "Upoznajte Joea Blacka" demonstrira "kubrickovsku" grandioznost u peglanju mizanscene do perfekcije uz repeticije kadrova, čak i kad to nije nužno, podsjećajući na Billovu stariju kćer (Marcia Gay Harden) dok nadgleda/režira pripreme za očev 65. rođendan. Da je Kubrick probudio romantičara u sebi i snimio "Meet Joe Black", nije isključeno da bi njegov film blizak Brestovu.

Prilično kompleksna kontemplacija o Smrti i smrtnosti transcendira romansu i prelomljena je preko troje likova koji se nalaze na putovanju učenja životnih lekcija, življenja ispunjenog života, tj. uživanja u sitnicama što taj život znače, poput maslaca od kikirikija i poljubaca. Bill se bliži kraju putovanja i gleda unatrag spremajući se na prelazak iz života u smrt, Smrt otkriva život, ali mora ga odvesti sa sobom, a na Susan ostaje da nastavi živjeti punim plućima. I voljeti. Do Smrti.

‘Thank you for loving me‘

Jon Bon Jovi je sigurno bio jedan od onih koji su gledali "Upoznajte Joea Blacka". Posljednja Blackova rečenica upućena Susan, "Thank you for loving me", bila je očigledno inspirativna za naslov njegove istoimene pjesme s albuma "Crush" (2000.). Uzgred, raskošna scenografija filma je djelo Dantea Ferrettija, a za fotografiju je odgovoran budući trostruki oskarovac Emmanuel Lubezki. P.S. "Meet joe Black" se na kanalu Fox Movies prikazuje 12. studenoga u elitnom večernjem terminu.

Sahranjeni film devedesetih "Upoznajte Joea Blacka" (1998.), promašaj kod najvećeg dijela kritike i publike, uskrsnuo je prošle godine iz "mrtvih" i postao "viralna senzacija" kad je netko na Twitter postavio jednu od njegovih uvodnih scena. Za izvlačenje filma iz naftalina zaslužna je scena kad lika Brada Pitta udari ne jedan, nego dva automobila, konkretno kombi koji ga odbaci na taksi, odakle nesretnik pada na kolnik.

To više govori o poremećenim vrijednostima današnjeg svijeta nego filmu Martina Bresta, jednom od najpodcjenjenijih iz devedesetih. "Viralne senzacije" s najviše "likeova" i "shareova" postaju raznorazne bizarnosti, bedastoće i morbidnosti, "memeovi" i GIF-ovi bez ikakvog respekta prema filmovima, glumcima itd.

U današnjem svijetu, znači, više vrijedi Pittova pogibija nego njegove romantične scene s predivnom Claire Forlani ili životno afirmirajuće s Anthonyjem Hopkinsom koje su potpisniku ovih redaka bile razlog da se filmu vrati pred njegovo emitiranje na Fox Movies.

Scena je nekoć bila neočekivana i subverzivna, dakle da ljepuškasti Pitt da strada na tako ružan način. Danas, u eri sveopćeg cinizma, osobito spram svemu romantičnom, scena je predmet sprdnje i nije baš potaknula nove generacije da pogledaju cijeli "Meet Joe Black".

Sudeći po komentarima, odbija ih "zloglasno" trosatno trajanje koje je i nekoć istaknuto kao glavna mana filma jer kako neka moderna romansa može dosegnuti blizu tri sata, ako eventualno nije "Engleski pacijent" ili "Titanic".

Licemjerstvo i dvojaka mjerila nekad i sad. Izuzev pokojna velikana Rogera Eberta, većina kritičara-grobara pokopala je "Upoznajte Joea Blacka" u realnom vremenu; tri sata su im bila previše za jedan hollywoodski romantični film, dok su istovremeno premalo za, primjerice, sedmosatnu art dramu "Sotonski tango" Bele Tarra.

Dvadeset i jednu godinu kasnije, ista meta, različito odstojanje, još frapantnije u užurbanom vremenu netrpeljivosti i nestrpljenja, kad je "svakog gosta tri sata dosta". Novim generacijama su tri sata "too much" za gledanje "Joea Blacka", ali će bez problema naći vremena i "bindžati" neku seriju čije je trajanje dvostruko ili trostruko duže, a kvaliteta isto toliko puta "kraća".

Okej, film je mogao preživjeti bez širenja korporativnog podzapleta i prolongiranja kraja (i Pittova jamajčanskog naglaska), no takav kakav jest svejedno je dobar. S njegovim trajanjem ovaj gledatelj nije imao poteškoća krajem devedesetih u kinu "Central", posebice ne danas, i to ne samo zato što bi mogao satima gledati strastvenu Forlani u krupnom planu i slušati još strastveniju glazbu nesuđenog oskarovca Thomasa Newmana (od "Iskupljenja u Shawshanku", "Vrtloga života"... do "1917").

Naime, danas je savršeno jasno da je posrijedi (bila) neužurbana meditacija o životu, ljubavi i smrti pa tek onda romantična/ljubavna drama sa zvjezdanim Pittom koja je, kao, trebala ispričati neku novu "Legendu o jeseni", a ustvari je njegovim tinejdžerskim obožavateljicama subverzivno podvalila "movie" za odrasliju/zreliju publiku.

Ništa kontra "Legends Of The Fall", ali "Meet Joe Black" je, osobno, draži i bolji. Čak i kad film ne teče sto posto "prirodno", kad su vidljive prevelike pauze u dijalozima i naslućena pedanterijska naštimavanja između "rezova", uključujući Pittovu zlatnu kosu, spontanim i stvarnim čini ga glumčeva kemija s Forlani, iskazana u uvodnoj rom-com sceni, ambijentiranoj u kafić.

Ondje Susan (Forlani) upoznaje bezimenog muškarca (Pitt) koji u njoj izaziva sve o čemu joj je prethodno govorio otac, superuspješni medijski mogul/milijunaš Bill Parrish (Hopkins), vidjevši da u njezinoj vezi s njegovom "desnom rukom" Drewom (Jake Weber) nema iskre i uzbuđenja.

"Želim da se zaneseš, da lebdiš, da pjevaš ushićeno i plešeš poput derviša", govori Bill kćerki i zauzima samoobrambeni stav ispred filma za sve antiromantičare koji bi ga mogli (i jesu) nazvati "otrcanim". "Znam da je otrcano, ali ljubav je opsesija. Proći kroz život bez nje je kao da nisi živjela", kaže Bill i predlaže kćerki "zaboravi mozak, slušaj srce" jer "munja može udariti".

Munja udara i to ne bi mogli čuti samo oni koji nisu nikad s nekim doživjeli kemiju na prvi pogled ili razgovor. Međutim, nakon rom-coma slijedi rom-dram, romantična drama "visokog koncepta" (i) o ljubavi, ne ljubavna drama "per se". Ljubav ima više vrsta u filmu (romantična, očinska...), a visoki koncept krije se u premisi da Smrt preuzima tijelo stradalog Pittova lika i traži od Billa da bude njezin vodič za razgledavanje Zemlje prije nego što ga povede i tako on zauzvrat dobiva više vremena.

Smrt se nalazi na odmoru u "Meet Joe Black", nadahnutom filmom "Death Takes a Holiday" iz 1934. godine. Rekli bismo "na dopustu", ali to je teško s obzirom da Smrt izgleda poput Pitta i Pitt joj dobro pristaje. Nije Smrt, nazvana Joe Black, luda u odabiru Pittova lika za tijelo (ljepota) i Billa za životnog vodiča (bogatstvo), premda film ponajprije njeguje "down to Earth" pristup visokom konceptu dok se nalazi u društvu na visokoj nozi.

U osnovi je koncept "fish out of water" i Joe Black se ponaša gotovo kao Schwarzeneggerov lik u hit-komediji "Blizanci", nevino pristupajući novim otkrićima, poput slatkog maslaca od kikirikija, odnosno još slađeg poljupca sa Susan i vođenja ljubavi. Nakon toga Joe Black osjeća slabost u koljenima, srce mu lupa brže i zbunjen je zbog ljubavi.

Bilo je tu, očito, štofa za (crnu) komediju ("Kći mi se zaljubila u Smrt!") koja bi se vrlo lako mogla oteti kontroli. Redatelj Brest, poznat po (akcijskim) komedijama ("Policajac s Beverly Hillsa", "Ponoćna utrka"), prepoznao je to i zadržao dramski kurs zacrtan "Mirisom žene".

Brest je u tom filmu pokazivao natruhe perfekcionizma, a u "Upoznajte Joea Blacka" demonstrira "kubrickovsku" grandioznost u peglanju mizanscene do perfekcije uz repeticije kadrova, čak i kad to nije nužno, podsjećajući na Billovu stariju kćer (Marcia Gay Harden) dok nadgleda/režira pripreme za očev 65. rođendan. Da je Kubrick probudio romantičara u sebi i snimio "Meet Joe Black", nije isključeno da bi njegov film blizak Brestovu.

Prilično kompleksna kontemplacija o Smrti i smrtnosti transcendira romansu i prelomljena je preko troje likova koji se nalaze na putovanju učenja životnih lekcija, življenja ispunjenog života, tj. uživanja u sitnicama što taj život znače, poput maslaca od kikirikija i poljubaca. Bill se bliži kraju putovanja i gleda unatrag spremajući se na prelazak iz života u smrt, Smrt otkriva život, ali mora ga odvesti sa sobom, a na Susan ostaje da nastavi živjeti punim plućima. I voljeti. Do Smrti.

‘Thank you for loving me‘

Jon Bon Jovi je sigurno bio jedan od onih koji su gledali "Upoznajte Joea Blacka". Posljednja Blackova rečenica upućena Susan, "Thank you for loving me", bila je očigledno inspirativna za naslov njegove istoimene pjesme s albuma "Crush" (2000.). Uzgred, raskošna scenografija filma je djelo Dantea Ferrettija, a za fotografiju je odgovoran budući trostruki oskarovac Emmanuel Lubezki. P.S. "Meet joe Black" se na kanalu Fox Movies prikazuje 12. studenoga u elitnom večernjem terminu.

Sahranjeni film devedesetih "Upoznajte Joea Blacka" (1998.), promašaj kod najvećeg dijela kritike i publike, uskrsnuo je prošle godine iz "mrtvih" i postao "viralna senzacija" kad je netko na Twitter postavio jednu od njegovih uvodnih scena. Za izvlačenje filma iz naftalina zaslužna je scena kad lika Brada Pitta udari ne jedan, nego dva automobila, konkretno kombi koji ga odbaci na taksi, odakle nesretnik pada na kolnik.

To više govori o poremećenim vrijednostima današnjeg svijeta nego filmu Martina Bresta, jednom od najpodcjenjenijih iz devedesetih. "Viralne senzacije" s najviše "likeova" i "shareova" postaju raznorazne bizarnosti, bedastoće i morbidnosti, "memeovi" i GIF-ovi bez ikakvog respekta prema filmovima, glumcima itd.
