Nekrolog Wolfgangu Petersenu splitska “Kinoteka” ispisala je projekcijom filma “Na vatrenoj liniji” (“In The Line Of Fire”, 1993.). Odabir je bio pogođen za “in memoriam” Petersenu: “Na vatrenoj liniji” je ponajbolji američki film njemačkog režisera koji se nakon uspjeha “Podmornice” i “Beskrajne priče” preselio u Hollywood i tamo snimio hitove kao što su “Izvan kontrole”, “Air Force One”, “Oluja svih oluja” i “Troja”.

Petersen je režirao “In The Line Of Fire” zanatski precizno i ritmično, znalački uslojavajući i profilirajući likove u izvedbi odličnih glumaca te podižući akcijsko-trilerski “suspense”, među ostalim, i njihovom profilacijom. Tako režiran, “Na vatrenoj liniji” je film koji se može gledati višekratno i pogledao se sigurno nekih desetak puta od 1993. do 2023., od čega triput u zadnjih šest-sedam godina, povodom pisanja akcijskog portreta Clinta Eastwooda, na “in memoriam” projekciji u “Kinoteci” i uoči ovog teksta.

Režija je u (tajnoj) službi filma, ne obratno i “In The Line Of Fire” ostaje jedan od oglednih primjeraka srastanja akcijskog i psihološkog trilera u hollywoodskoj kinematografiji devedesetih, ali i projekt promišljena tajminga u pogledu filmskih kretanja i Eastwoodove persone.

Film nastavlja tamo gdje su stali “JFK”, “Tjelohranitelj” i “Nepomirljivi”. Konspirativna doku-drama “JFK” ponovno je aktualizirala atentat na predsjednika Kennedyja, akcijski triler “The Bodyguard” vrtio se oko lika tjelesnog čuvara i bivšeg agenta tajne službe Franka Farmera koji se kaje što nije bio na dužnosti tijekom napada na Ronalda Reagana, a vestern “Unforgiven” predstavio Eastwooda starijeg, ranjivijeg, grješnijeg i ljudskijeg nego ikad prije.

U uvodu filma Eastwood kao veteranski agent tajne službe Frank Horrigan maše pištoljem poput “macho” junaka Prljavog Harryja i napuca dvojicu tipova. Ostarjeli Horrigan je čovjek od akcije, “tough guy” neovisno o godinama (Eastwood je imao 63) i izgovara rečenice koje bi lako mogao izgovoriti i Harry, tipa kad na pitanje “zašto ne nosi naočale?” odgovori s “da mi manijaci vide bjelooočnice, pravi pogled je ubojit poput pištolja”.

No, Horrigan je takav samo “prema van”, jednako kao i sam film. “Na vatrenoj liniji” inicijalno djeluje kao “Prljavi Harry 6”, odnosno prirodni slijed za akcijskog Eastwooda od Callahanovih avantura do “Guštera”, kao što je “Nepomirljivi” bio logičan nastavak kaubojskog (“Za šaku dolara”, “Dobar, loš, zao”), ali se više približava karakterno mračnijoj “Omči”.

Eastwood je u prvom “Dirty Harryju” već igrao igru mačke i miša s psihopatima kao što je Mitch Leary (izvrsni John Malkovich, dotad najpoznatiji po “Opasnim vezama”), kršio pravila i verbalno ratovao s birokratima gotovo jednako kako ratuje s kriminalcima, a imao je i ženu za partnericu u trećem filmu kao što ovdje ima Rene Russo (“Smrtononosno oružje 3”) u ulozi mlade agentice tajne službe Lilly Raines.

Odnos s Lily signalizira drukčijeg Harryja/Eastwooda i nakon početnih seksističkih dobacivanja razvija se u smjeru prave romanse pa nije čudno da joj Horrigan u jednom momentu na klaviru zasvira “As Time Goes By” iz “Casablance” (“Play it again, Clint”). Također, Prljavog Harryja nisu proganjali demoni prošlosti, niti se stigao zagledati u dubinu duše kao Horrigan, kamoli da je pokazao emocije, dopustio da mu donja usna zadrhti i došao do ruba suza.

Možda i zato što Harry nije imao protivnika kao što je Leary koji prijeti atentatom na predsjednika SAD-a i bocka Horrigana tamo gdje ga najviše boli, a nije se ni morao boriti s vremenom (godinama), neprijateljem većim od najvećeg kriminalca. Kad Horrigan zatraži od nadređenog da ga ubaci u predsjedničku povorku, ovaj će mu reći “Pa ti si dinosaur! Zbilja želiš na stražu u tim godinama?” jer mnogi misle da je na izmaku snaga i prestar za trčanje uz limuzinu.

Odraz Horriganova starenja reflektiran je u sceni kad se zapuše u povorci i kasnije u potjeri za Learyjem, što je ekvivalent “staračkim” prizorima iz “Unforgivena”, refleksivnog filma u kojem je Eastwoodova lika također tištila prošlost i hrvao se sa starenjem i gružnjom savjesti.

Naime, Horrigana proganja kobni 22. studenog 1963., kad nije uspio spasiti Kennedyja, iako je bio na dužnosti,, a Petersen zahvaljujući specijalnim efektima ubacuje Eastwooda u isti kadar s predsjednikom, što je potencirao “Forrest Gump”. Horrigan otkriva da se ukipio na prvi pucanj i propituje je li se jednostavno sve prebrzo odigralo da je mogao reagirati ili je to možda napravio od straha, nespreman da žrtvuje svoj život za tuđi.

Upravo o tome je li netko spreman baciti se pred cijev da bi metak pogodio njega, a ne onoga kome je namijenjen, što je jedna od definicija akcijskog junačenja, Horrigan će pričati s mladim kolegom (Dylan MCDermott), koji dvoji je li za ovaj posao, ali i s Learyjem. “Imaš li ti uopće hrabrosti primiti metak?”, Leary pita Horrigana tijekom njihovih frekventnih telefonskih razgovora. Leary je razotkrio da Horrigan skriva grizodušje i da krivi sebe zbog stradavanja Kennedyja.

Psihološki slojevita međuigra Learyja i Horrigana pokretač je Petersenova akcijskog trilera s inteligentnim zlikovcem koji se voli maskirati u druge ljude kao preteča “Šakala” i u tom procesu objedinjuje negativce od “Umri muški” do “kad jaganjci utihnu”, tj. junakom koji koristi um, ne samo mišiće. “Igra je na višoj razini budeš li mi ti protivnik. Spojila nas je sudbina. Kakva je to ironija, bit ćeš povezan sa smrću dvojice predsjednika”, Leary izaziva Horrigana i on prihvaća izazov.

Njih dvojica su zrcalna slika, jin i jang, kao Batman i Joker. Obojica su “vjerovala da je ova zemlja nešto posebno” (Leary je bivši operativac CIA-e) i ista vlast je jednog od njih učila ubijati, drugoga spašavati. ”Zašto bi riskirao život da bi spasio tog čovjeka”, pita Leary, a Horrigan doda protupitanje “Zašto bi ti riskirao život da bi ga ubio”.

“Da se naglasi odsutnost smisla”, odgovara Leary, odlučan da ispraznom životu na ovaj način dade neko značenje, a usput daje i Horriganu priliku za tako željeno iskupljenje, što su počeli sve češće tražiti budući Eastwoodovi likovi. “In The Line Of Fire” je trasirao liniju prema “Mostovima okruga Madison” i “Neograničenoj moći”, pa i dalje sve do “Gran Torina”, “Mule” i “Cry Macho”.

Jedan od najvećih kinohitova 1993.

"Na vatrenoj liniji" je imao premijeru 8. srpnja 1993. i bio je jedan od najvećih kinohitova tog ljeta u Americi i uopće godine, našavši se na sedmom mjestu godišnje liste, iza "Jurskog parka", "Bjegunca"... To je i najveći Eastwoodov kinohit u devedesetima, ujedno i jedini film iz te dekade u kojem je glumio, a da ga nije i režirao.

Nekrolog Wolfgangu Petersenu splitska “Kinoteka” ispisala je projekcijom filma “Na vatrenoj liniji” (“In The Line Of Fire”, 1993.). Odabir je bio pogođen za “in memoriam” Petersenu: “Na vatrenoj liniji” je ponajbolji američki film njemačkog režisera koji se nakon uspjeha “Podmornice” i “Beskrajne priče” preselio u Hollywood i tamo snimio hitove kao što su “Izvan kontrole”, “Air Force One”, “Oluja svih oluja” i “Troja”.

Petersen je režirao “In The Line Of Fire” zanatski precizno i ritmično, znalački uslojavajući i profilirajući likove u izvedbi odličnih glumaca te podižući akcijsko-trilerski “suspense”, među ostalim, i njihovom profilacijom. Tako režiran, “Na vatrenoj liniji” je film koji se može gledati višekratno i pogledao se sigurno nekih desetak puta od 1993. do 2023., od čega triput u zadnjih šest-sedam godina, povodom pisanja akcijskog portreta Clinta Eastwooda, na “in memoriam” projekciji u “Kinoteci” i uoči ovog teksta.

Režija je u (tajnoj) službi filma, ne obratno i “In The Line Of Fire” ostaje jedan od oglednih primjeraka srastanja akcijskog i psihološkog trilera u hollywoodskoj kinematografiji devedesetih, ali i projekt promišljena tajminga u pogledu filmskih kretanja i Eastwoodove persone.

Film nastavlja tamo gdje su stali “JFK”, “Tjelohranitelj” i “Nepomirljivi”. Konspirativna doku-drama “JFK” ponovno je aktualizirala atentat na predsjednika Kennedyja, akcijski triler “The Bodyguard” vrtio se oko lika tjelesnog čuvara i bivšeg agenta tajne službe Franka Farmera koji se kaje što nije bio na dužnosti tijekom napada na Ronalda Reagana, a vestern “Unforgiven” predstavio Eastwooda starijeg, ranjivijeg, grješnijeg i ljudskijeg nego ikad prije.

U uvodu filma Eastwood kao veteranski agent tajne službe Frank Horrigan maše pištoljem poput “macho” junaka Prljavog Harryja i napuca dvojicu tipova. Ostarjeli Horrigan je čovjek od akcije, “tough guy” neovisno o godinama (Eastwood je imao 63) i izgovara rečenice koje bi lako mogao izgovoriti i Harry, tipa kad na pitanje “zašto ne nosi naočale?” odgovori s “da mi manijaci vide bjelooočnice, pravi pogled je ubojit poput pištolja”.

No, Horrigan je takav samo “prema van”, jednako kao i sam film. “Na vatrenoj liniji” inicijalno djeluje kao “Prljavi Harry 6”, odnosno prirodni slijed za akcijskog Eastwooda od Callahanovih avantura do “Guštera”, kao što je “Nepomirljivi” bio logičan nastavak kaubojskog (“Za šaku dolara”, “Dobar, loš, zao”), ali se više približava karakterno mračnijoj “Omči”.

Eastwood je u prvom “Dirty Harryju” već igrao igru mačke i miša s psihopatima kao što je Mitch Leary (izvrsni John Malkovich, dotad najpoznatiji po “Opasnim vezama”), kršio pravila i verbalno ratovao s birokratima gotovo jednako kako ratuje s kriminalcima, a imao je i ženu za partnericu u trećem filmu kao što ovdje ima Rene Russo (“Smrtononosno oružje 3”) u ulozi mlade agentice tajne službe Lilly Raines.

Odnos s Lily signalizira drukčijeg Harryja/Eastwooda i nakon početnih seksističkih dobacivanja razvija se u smjeru prave romanse pa nije čudno da joj Horrigan u jednom momentu na klaviru zasvira “As Time Goes By” iz “Casablance” (“Play it again, Clint”). Također, Prljavog Harryja nisu proganjali demoni prošlosti, niti se stigao zagledati u dubinu duše kao Horrigan, kamoli da je pokazao emocije, dopustio da mu donja usna zadrhti i došao do ruba suza.

Možda i zato što Harry nije imao protivnika kao što je Leary koji prijeti atentatom na predsjednika SAD-a i bocka Horrigana tamo gdje ga najviše boli, a nije se ni morao boriti s vremenom (godinama), neprijateljem većim od najvećeg kriminalca. Kad Horrigan zatraži od nadređenog da ga ubaci u predsjedničku povorku, ovaj će mu reći “Pa ti si dinosaur! Zbilja želiš na stražu u tim godinama?” jer mnogi misle da je na izmaku snaga i prestar za trčanje uz limuzinu.

Odraz Horriganova starenja reflektiran je u sceni kad se zapuše u povorci i kasnije u potjeri za Learyjem, što je ekvivalent “staračkim” prizorima iz “Unforgivena”, refleksivnog filma u kojem je Eastwoodova lika također tištila prošlost i hrvao se sa starenjem i gružnjom savjesti.

Naime, Horrigana proganja kobni 22. studenog 1963., kad nije uspio spasiti Kennedyja, iako je bio na dužnosti,, a Petersen zahvaljujući specijalnim efektima ubacuje Eastwooda u isti kadar s predsjednikom, što je potencirao “Forrest Gump”. Horrigan otkriva da se ukipio na prvi pucanj i propituje je li se jednostavno sve prebrzo odigralo da je mogao reagirati ili je to možda napravio od straha, nespreman da žrtvuje svoj život za tuđi.

Upravo o tome je li netko spreman baciti se pred cijev da bi metak pogodio njega, a ne onoga kome je namijenjen, što je jedna od definicija akcijskog junačenja, Horrigan će pričati s mladim kolegom (Dylan MCDermott), koji dvoji je li za ovaj posao, ali i s Learyjem. “Imaš li ti uopće hrabrosti primiti metak?”, Leary pita Horrigana tijekom njihovih frekventnih telefonskih razgovora. Leary je razotkrio da Horrigan skriva grizodušje i da krivi sebe zbog stradavanja Kennedyja.

Psihološki slojevita međuigra Learyja i Horrigana pokretač je Petersenova akcijskog trilera s inteligentnim zlikovcem koji se voli maskirati u druge ljude kao preteča “Šakala” i u tom procesu objedinjuje negativce od “Umri muški” do “kad jaganjci utihnu”, tj. junakom koji koristi um, ne samo mišiće. “Igra je na višoj razini budeš li mi ti protivnik. Spojila nas je sudbina. Kakva je to ironija, bit ćeš povezan sa smrću dvojice predsjednika”, Leary izaziva Horrigana i on prihvaća izazov.

Njih dvojica su zrcalna slika, jin i jang, kao Batman i Joker. Obojica su “vjerovala da je ova zemlja nešto posebno” (Leary je bivši operativac CIA-e) i ista vlast je jednog od njih učila ubijati, drugoga spašavati. ”Zašto bi riskirao život da bi spasio tog čovjeka”, pita Leary, a Horrigan doda protupitanje “Zašto bi ti riskirao život da bi ga ubio”.

“Da se naglasi odsutnost smisla”, odgovara Leary, odlučan da ispraznom životu na ovaj način dade neko značenje, a usput daje i Horriganu priliku za tako željeno iskupljenje, što su počeli sve češće tražiti budući Eastwoodovi likovi. “In The Line Of Fire” je trasirao liniju prema “Mostovima okruga Madison” i “Neograničenoj moći”, pa i dalje sve do “Gran Torina”, “Mule” i “Cry Macho”.

Jedan od najvećih kinohitova 1993.

"Na vatrenoj liniji" je imao premijeru 8. srpnja 1993. i bio je jedan od najvećih kinohitova tog ljeta u Americi i uopće godine, našavši se na sedmom mjestu godišnje liste, iza "Jurskog parka", "Bjegunca"... To je i najveći Eastwoodov kinohit u devedesetima, ujedno i jedini film iz te dekade u kojem je glumio, a da ga nije i režirao.

Nekrolog Wolfgangu Petersenu splitska “Kinoteka” ispisala je projekcijom filma “Na vatrenoj liniji” (“In The Line Of Fire”, 1993.). Odabir je bio pogođen za “in memoriam” Petersenu: “Na vatrenoj liniji” je ponajbolji američki film njemačkog režisera koji se nakon uspjeha “Podmornice” i “Beskrajne priče” preselio u Hollywood i tamo snimio hitove kao što su “Izvan kontrole”, “Air Force One”, “Oluja svih oluja” i “Troja”.

Petersen je režirao “In The Line Of Fire” zanatski precizno i ritmično, znalački uslojavajući i profilirajući likove u izvedbi odličnih glumaca te podižući akcijsko-trilerski “suspense”, među ostalim, i njihovom profilacijom. Tako režiran, “Na vatrenoj liniji” je film koji se može gledati višekratno i pogledao se sigurno ne...
