Nečuveno je da mnogi strani mediji uglas ističu kako je “Božićna ulica” (“Candy Cane Lane”) prvi božićni film legendarnog komičara Eddieja Murphyja. Na taj način ignoriraju “Kolo sreće”, jedan od najvećih božićnih klasika svih vremena koji, da stvar bude nevjerojatnija, slavi 30. obljetnicu u godini izlaska “Božićne ulice”.

Dakle, “Candy Cane Lane” je Murphyjev drugi božićni film nakon “Trading Places” iz 1983. godine. Tko zna, možda je to samo bio pokušaj reklamiranja filma u produkciji Amazona, da ispadne posebniji nego što zapravo jest. “Božićna ulica” može ispuniti svrhu za jedno obiteljsko blagdansko gledanje, osobito ako vam je do nečeg novog umjesto repriza, ali je daleko od (potencijalnog) klasika kao što je to “Kolo sreće”.

Osnovna premisa je načelno okej(ish) za blagdansku komediju satiričke vrste a la “Luda božićna zvona” i tiče se tradicionalnog godišnjeg natjecanja u božićnom ukrašavanju susjedstva, preuzetom iz stvarnosti. Jedan predio kalifornijskog grada El Segundo (East Acacia Avenue) njeguje tu tradiciju od 1949. godine.

Oko tog natjecanja formira se priča o obiteljskom čovjeku Chrisu Carveru (Murphy) koji je upravo dobio otkaz, stoga se pošto-poto želi uključiti u natjecanje u dekoraciji svoje kuće i osvojiti nagradu od stotinu tisuća dolara. Chris misli da njegov ručni rad nije dovoljan i pronalazi neobičan dućan s još neobičnijom zaposlenicom Pepper (neobuzdana komičarka Jillian Bell) gdje kupuje jedinstveno veliko božićno drvce sa zlatnom jarebicom na vrhu koje će osvijetliti da šljašti više od kuće osvjetljene u stilu “Matrixa”.

Pepper namami Chrisa da potpiše ugovor i ignorira mala slova, što on i napravi, nesvjestan da je ona osramoćena vilenjakinja, izbačena iz radionice Djeda Mraza, čije žrtve budu pretvorene u male porculanske figurice, a to čeka i njega ukoliko ne uspije razbiti prokletstvo uz pomoć članova obitelji. Od “family friendly” božićne komedije s elementima satire, “Candy Cane Lane” postaje fantazija s uplivom bajke braće Grimm pa i blagdanskog horora na tragu “Krampusa” ili “Igračaka užasa”.

“Što je Božić bez malo terora?”, čujemo u filmu u kojem se klincima savjetuje da se ne razdvajaju jer tako obično stradavaju likovi u hororima. “Kao da smo u ‘Zoni sumraka’...”, opaža Chris, a u jednom trenutku odjekne i samoironična metafilmska rečenica “Ovo čak nije ni božićni film”. Ništa protiv hibridnosti i miješanja žanrova, kao ni metafilmske samovjesnosti, dapače.

No, Reginald Hudlin (s Murphyjem radio “Bumerang”) nije transžanrovski redatelj s velikim osjećajem za “meta” strujanja i autoironiju, ali i specijalne efekte. Tranzicije nisu izvedene suptilno, već naglo, pa je “Candy Cane Lane” žanrovski pretrpan poput najpretrpanije čizmice ili čarape ostavljene za Svetog Nikolu, njegov samoironijski “meta” odmak nije dovoljno jak, a u efektima s “malim božićnim ljudima koji su oživjeli” šlepa se na “Dobrodošli u Marwenn” Roberta Zemeckisa.

Film pretežno ostavlja dojam konfekcije, uključujući i standardne lekcije o “pravom značenju” blagdana (“Božić nije u novcu”), uz poneki novi dodatak (“Nije važno ono što imaš izvan kuće nego unutar nje”), ali svakako je i kao takav podnošljiviji od recentnih Murphyjevih komedija poput “Coming 2 America” i “Vaših i naših”, snimljenih nakon “comebacka” s “Dolemite Is My Name”. Čeka se četvrti “Policajac s Beverly Hillsa” za novi povratak starog dobrog Murphyja.

Nečuveno je da mnogi strani mediji uglas ističu kako je “Božićna ulica” (“Candy Cane Lane”) prvi božićni film legendarnog komičara Eddieja Murphyja. Na taj način ignoriraju “Kolo sreće”, jedan od najvećih božićnih klasika svih vremena koji, da stvar bude nevjerojatnija, slavi 30. obljetnicu u godini izlaska “Božićne ulice”.

Dakle, “Candy Cane Lane” je Murphyjev drugi božićni film nakon “Trading Places” iz 1983. godine. Tko zna, možda je to samo bio pokušaj reklamiranja filma u produkciji Amazona, da ispadne posebniji nego što zapravo jest. “Božićna ulica” može ispuniti svrhu za jedno obiteljsko blagdansko gledanje, osobito ako vam je do nečeg novog umjesto repriza, ali je daleko od (potencijalnog) klasika kao što je to “Kolo sreće”.

Osnovna premisa je načelno okej(ish) za blagdansku komediju satiričke vrste a la “Luda božićna zvona” i tiče se tradicionalnog godišnjeg natjecanja u božićnom ukrašavanju susjedstva, preuzetom iz stvarnosti. Jedan predio kalifornijskog grada El Segundo (East Acacia Avenue) njeguje tu tradiciju od 1949. godine.

Oko tog natjecanja formira se priča o obiteljskom čovjeku Chrisu Carveru (Murphy) koji je upravo dobio otkaz, stoga se pošto-poto želi uključiti u natjecanje u dekoraciji svoje kuće i osvojiti nagradu od stotinu tisuća dolara. Chris misli da njegov ručni rad nije dovoljan i pronalazi neobičan dućan s još neobičnijom zaposlenicom Pepper (neobuzdana komičarka Jillian Bell) gdje kupuje jedinstveno veliko božićno drvce sa zlatnom jarebicom na vrhu koje će osvijetliti da šljašti više od kuće osvjetljene u stilu “Matrixa”.

Pepper namami Chrisa da potpiše ugovor i ignorira mala slova, što on i napravi, nesvjestan da je ona osramoćena vilenjakinja, izbačena iz radionice Djeda Mraza, čije žrtve budu pretvorene u male porculanske figurice, a to čeka i njega ukoliko ne uspije razbiti prokletstvo uz pomoć članova obitelji. Od “family friendly” božićne komedije s elementima satire, “Candy Cane Lane” postaje fantazija s uplivom bajke braće Grimm pa i blagdanskog horora na tragu “Krampusa” ili “Igračaka užasa”.

“Što je Božić bez malo terora?”, čujemo u filmu u kojem se klincima savjetuje da se ne razdvajaju jer tako obično stradavaju likovi u hororima. “Kao da smo u ‘Zoni sumraka’...”, opaža Chris, a u jednom trenutku odjekne i samoironična metafilmska rečenica “Ovo čak nije ni božićni film”. Ništa protiv hibridnosti i miješanja žanrova, kao ni metafilmske samovjesnosti, dapače.

No, Reginald Hudlin (s Murphyjem radio “Bumerang”) nije transžanrovski redatelj s velikim osjećajem za “meta” strujanja i autoironiju, ali i specijalne efekte. Tranzicije nisu izvedene suptilno, već naglo, pa je “Candy Cane Lane” žanrovski pretrpan poput najpretrpanije čizmice ili čarape ostavljene za Svetog Nikolu, njegov samoironijski “meta” odmak nije dovoljno jak, a u efektima s “malim božićnim ljudima koji su oživjeli” šlepa se na “Dobrodošli u Marwenn” Roberta Zemeckisa.

Film pretežno ostavlja dojam konfekcije, uključujući i standardne lekcije o “pravom značenju” blagdana (“Božić nije u novcu”), uz poneki novi dodatak (“Nije važno ono što imaš izvan kuće nego unutar nje”), ali svakako je i kao takav podnošljiviji od recentnih Murphyjevih komedija poput “Coming 2 America” i “Vaših i naših”, snimljenih nakon “comebacka” s “Dolemite Is My Name”. Čeka se četvrti “Policajac s Beverly Hillsa” za novi povratak starog dobrog Murphyja.
