Kolaboracije glumca Christiana Balea i režisera Scotta Coopera dosad su bile jamac za dobar film – “Čelična pravda” i “Neprijatelji”. Zato se s nestrpljenjem očekivala premijera Baleova i Cooperova novog zajedničkog projekta “Blijedoplavo oko” (“The Pale Blue Eye”).

K tome, “Blijedoplavo oko” upotpunjuje njihovu trilogiju o “etici osvete”, toliko da Bale njeguje sličan bradati imidž kao u “Hostiles”. Nažalost, velika očekivanja nisu ispunjena. Treći film glumca i redatelja nije najveći. Bitno je manje dojmljiv i generalno slabiji od dvaju srčanijih prethodnika, kao i ostalih Cooperovih ostvarenja, “Crne mise”, “Ludog srca” i “Duhova tame”, no nije nezanimljiv za jedno gledanje neke kasne zimske večeri zbog ugođajne atmosfere i fotografije.

“The Pale Blue Eye” je ekranizacija istoimenoga gotičkog trilerskog romana Luisa Bayarda i kupi ekstra poene intrigantnosti ubacivanjem stvarne osobe u fikciju, odnosno time da u detektivsku priču, ambijentiranu u 1830. godinu, uglavljuje legendarnog Edgara Allana Poea kao kadeta slavne vojne akademije.

U “Blijedoplavom oku” Bale glumi Augustusa Landora, “legendu među newyorškim policajcima”, ali i udovca čija je kćer napustila dom nedugo poslije smrti njegove supruge, nakon čega on smisao pronalazi u piću i viđanju s vlasnicom taverne (Charlotte Gainsbourg).

Tog i takvog Landora, progonjenog prošlošću, ali i kadrog izvući priznanje od zločinca svojim “prodornim pogledom”, angažiraju policijski kapetan Hitchcock (Simon McBurney) i nadstojnik vojne akademije Thayer (Timothy Spall). Angažman uključuje istragu neobičnog slučaja na West Pointu i “spašavanja časti” vojne akademije SAD-a.

Naime, jedan kadet pronađen je obješen i postoje dvojbe je li posrijedi samoubojstvo ili umorstvo, a to i nije sve. Mrtvozornik Marquis (Toby Jones) otkriva da je tijelo nesretnika oskvrnuto, tj. netko mu je izvadio srce iz grudi. Landoru će u istrazi pomagati čudni i povučeni student četvrte godine vojne akademije.

On je nitko drugi doli budući pjesnik Edgar A. Poe, u tumačenju Harryja Mellinga, poznatog po ulogama u serijalu “Harry Potter”, filmovima “Stara garda” i “Tragedija Macbetha” te seriji “Damin gambit”. ”Ubojica je pjesnik”, smatra Poe, koji će dešifrirati poruku s rasparanog papirića pronađenog u rukama obješenog kadeta.

To je zanimljiva okosnica priče: samo pjesnik može razotkriti pjesnika, dakle na ozbiljnijem tragu onoga “only ninja can kill ninja”. Poe je najinteresantniji lik filma, svojevrsnoga gotičkog odgovora na “Malo dobrih ljudi”. Točnije, interesantan je način kako Cooper uklapa Poea u priču imajući u vidu stvaran (i mračan) lik i djelo čovjeka koji “tvrdi da mu je pjesmu u snu izdiktirala pokojna majka”.

Misteriozna i morbidna zbivanja u filmu kao da su inspiracija za Poeove kasnije radove (njegova posljednja kratka priča naslovljena je “Landorova koliba”) pa je tu i kadar jednoga grakćućeg gavrana na grani. Zbivanja su, doista, baš po mjeri Poea, stoga je šteta da je on sporedan lik i da on preuzima ulogu Watsona umjesto Sherlocka; Landor je u ovom slučaju Holmes. Bolje Poe u ruci nego gavran na grani.

Osim toga, film se ne zadovoljava samo morbidnim, već prelazi i na okultno (obredi simboli, upute koje jamče besmrtnost), narušavajući uvjerljivost i ujednačenost cjeline naizgled prizemljene u zbilji, naročito kad dođe do završnih otkrića-preokreta.

Neujednačene su i glumačke partije, ostavljajući dojam kao da nisu iz istog filma, od pomalo manirističkog Balea do suviše preglumljene Gillian Anderson u ulozi mrtvozornikove žene. “The Pale Blue Eye” je bljedunjav gotički triler bez srca.

Kolaboracije glumca Christiana Balea i režisera Scotta Coopera dosad su bile jamac za dobar film – “Čelična pravda” i “Neprijatelji”. Zato se s nestrpljenjem očekivala premijera Baleova i Cooperova novog zajedničkog projekta “Blijedoplavo oko” (“The Pale Blue Eye”).

K tome, “Blijedoplavo oko” upotpunjuje njihovu trilogiju o “etici osvete”, toliko da Bale njeguje sličan bradati imidž kao u “Hostiles”. Nažalost, velika očekivanja nisu ispunjena. Treći film glumca i redatelja nije najveći. Bitno je manje dojmljiv i generalno slabiji od dvaju srčanijih prethodnika, kao i ostalih Cooperovih ostvarenja, “Crne mise”, “Ludog srca” i “Duhova tame”, no nije nezanimljiv za jedno gledanje neke kasne zimske večeri zbog ugođajne atmosfere i fotografije.

“The Pale Blue Eye” je ekranizacija istoimenoga gotičkog trilerskog romana Luisa Bayarda i kupi ekstra poene intrigantnosti ubacivanjem stvarne osobe u fikciju, odnosno time da u detektivsku priču, ambijentiranu u 1830. godinu, uglavljuje legendarnog Edgara Allana Poea kao kadeta slavne vojne akademije.

U “Blijedoplavom oku” Bale glumi Augustusa Landora, “legendu među newyorškim policajcima”, ali i udovca čija je kćer napustila dom nedugo poslije smrti njegove supruge, nakon čega on smisao pronalazi u piću i viđanju s vlasnicom taverne (Charlotte Gainsbourg).

Tog i takvog Landora, progonjenog prošlošću, ali i kadrog izvući priznanje od zločinca svojim “prodornim pogledom”, angažiraju policijski kapetan Hitchcock (Simon McBurney) i nadstojnik vojne akademije Thayer (Timothy Spall). Angažman uključuje istragu neobičnog slučaja na West Pointu i “spašavanja časti” vojne akademije SAD-a.

Naime, jedan kadet pronađen je obješen i postoje dvojbe je li posrijedi samoubojstvo ili umorstvo, a to i nije sve. Mrtvozornik Marquis (Toby Jones) otkriva da je tijelo nesretnika oskvrnuto, tj. netko mu je izvadio srce iz grudi. Landoru će u istrazi pomagati čudni i povučeni student četvrte godine vojne akademije.

On je nitko drugi doli budući pjesnik Edgar A. Poe, u tumačenju Harryja Mellinga, poznatog po ulogama u serijalu “Harry Potter”, filmovima “Stara garda” i “Tragedija Macbetha” te seriji “Damin gambit”. ”Ubojica je pjesnik”, smatra Poe, koji će dešifrirati poruku s rasparanog papirića pronađenog u rukama obješenog kadeta.

To je zanimljiva okosnica priče: samo pjesnik može razotkriti pjesnika, dakle na ozbiljnijem tragu onoga “only ninja can kill ninja”. Poe je najinteresantniji lik filma, svojevrsnoga gotičkog odgovora na “Malo dobrih ljudi”. Točnije, interesantan je način kako Cooper uklapa Poea u priču imajući u vidu stvaran (i mračan) lik i djelo čovjeka koji “tvrdi da mu je pjesmu u snu izdiktirala pokojna majka”.

Misteriozna i morbidna zbivanja u filmu kao da su inspiracija za Poeove kasnije radove (njegova posljednja kratka priča naslovljena je “Landorova koliba”) pa je tu i kadar jednoga grakćućeg gavrana na grani. Zbivanja su, doista, baš po mjeri Poea, stoga je šteta da je on sporedan lik i da on preuzima ulogu Watsona umjesto Sherlocka; Landor je u ovom slučaju Holmes. Bolje Poe u ruci nego gavran na grani.

Osim toga, film se ne zadovoljava samo morbidnim, već prelazi i na okultno (obredi simboli, upute koje jamče besmrtnost), narušavajući uvjerljivost i ujednačenost cjeline naizgled prizemljene u zbilji, naročito kad dođe do završnih otkrića-preokreta.

Neujednačene su i glumačke partije, ostavljajući dojam kao da nisu iz istog filma, od pomalo manirističkog Balea do suviše preglumljene Gillian Anderson u ulozi mrtvozornikove žene. “The Pale Blue Eye” je bljedunjav gotički triler bez srca.
