U Zagrebu je u petak u 86. godini života nakon duge i teške bolesti preminuo trostruki hrvatski olimpijac, trener i profesor na Kineziološkom fakultetu u Zagrebu gimnastičar Ivan Čaklec. 

Čaklec je rođen 5. kolovoza 1932. godine u Varaždinu. Bio je član Gimnastičkog kluba Zagreb.

Čak tri puta je sudjelovao na olimpijskim igrama, 1952. godine u Helsinkiju  gdje je u višeboju pojedinačno osvojio 144. mjesto, a bio je dio ekipe koja je bila deseta, zatim 1960. u Rimu, gdje je ponovno nastupio u višeboju osvojivši 56. mjesto u pojedinačnoj konkurenciji, dok je ekipno bio deveti, te 1964. godine u Tokiju, gdje je pojedinačno osvojio 80. mjesto, a bio je dio ekipe koja je osvojila 11. mjesto.

Iako nije došao do medalje na olimpijskim igrama, sama činjenica da je tri puta nastupio na istima dovoljno govori o ovome gimnastičaru zasigurno jednom od najboljih u povijesti ovog sporta u Hrvatskoj.

Svoj najveći sportski uspjeh Ivan Čaklec postigao je na Europskom prvenstvu 1957. godine u Parizu gdje je osvojio brončane medalju na konju s hvataljkama. Bilo je to prvo pojedinačno europsko odličje za hrvatsku gimnastiku.

Osvojio je Čaklec i medalju na Mediteranskim igrama u Napulju 1963. gdje je bio dio momčadi koja je osvojila srebrnu medalju.

Završetkom karijere diplomirao je na Kineziološkom fakultetu u Zagrebu gdje se nakon diplome i zaposlio kao redoviti profesor. Godinama je radio kao trener odgojivši brojne sportaše.

U Zagrebu je u petak u 86. godini života nakon duge i teške bolesti preminuo trostruki hrvatski olimpijac, trener i profesor na Kineziološkom fakultetu u Zagrebu gimnastičar Ivan Čaklec. 

Čaklec je rođen 5. kolovoza 1932. godine u Varaždinu. Bio je član Gimnastičkog kluba Zagreb.

Čak tri puta je sudjelovao na olimpijskim igrama, 1952. godine u Helsinkiju  gdje je u višeboju pojedinačno osvojio 144. mjesto, a bio je dio ekipe koja je bila deseta, zatim 1960. u Rimu, gdje je ponovno nastupio u višeboju osvojivši 56. mjesto u pojedinačnoj konkurenciji, dok je ekipno bio deveti, te 1964. godine u Tokiju, gdje je pojedinačno osvojio 80. mjesto, a bio je dio ekipe koja je osvojila 11. mjesto.

Iako nije došao do medalje na olimpijskim igrama, sama činjenica da je tri puta nastupio na istima dovoljno govori o ovome gimnastičaru zasigurno jednom od najboljih u povijesti ovog sporta u Hrvatskoj.

Svoj najveći sportski uspjeh Ivan Čaklec postigao je na Europskom prvenstvu 1957. godine u Parizu gdje je osvojio brončane medalju na konju s hvataljkama. Bilo je to prvo pojedinačno europsko odličje za hrvatsku gimnastiku.

Osvojio je Čaklec i medalju na Mediteranskim igrama u Napulju 1963. gdje je bio dio momčadi koja je osvojila srebrnu medalju.

Završetkom karijere diplomirao je na Kineziološkom fakultetu u Zagrebu gdje se nakon diplome i zaposlio kao redoviti profesor. Godinama je radio kao trener odgojivši brojne sportaše.
