Svi čitamo, ali većinom postove na društvenim mrežama, tekstualne poruke, e-mailove i naslove vijesti. Možda se i teško motivirati za čitanje knjige od 380 stranica kada možemo gledati film, slušati audioknjigu ili gledati videozapis na YouTubeu. No, samo čitanje knjige moglo bi povećati vašu dugovječnost, piše Živim.

Studija objavljena u znanstvenom časopisu Social Science & Medicine pokazala je da oni koji čitaju knjige u prosjeku 30 minuta dnevno, recimo poglavlje na dan, žive dulje u usporedbi s onima koji ih ne čitaju. Oni koji čitaju više od 30,3 sata tjedno žive gotovo dvije godine dulje od nečitača. Čitanje knjiga obično uključuje dva kognitivna procesa koja bi mogla utjecati na dugovječnost.

Prvo, potiče se tzv. duboko čitanje, što je spor, uranjajući (imerzivan) proces koji se događa dok čitatelj povlači veze s pročitanim, pronalazi usporedbe s vanjskim svijetom i postavlja pitanja o predstavljenom sadržaju. Kognitivni angažman može objasniti zašto se vokabular, rasuđivanje, koncentracija i vještine kritičkog razmišljanja poboljšavaju što više čitamo.

Drugo, knjige mogu jačati empatiju, društvenu percepciju i emocionalnu inteligenciju, što su kognitivni procesi koji mogu dovesti do duljeg života. Podaci govore i da stariji od 65 godina provode u prosjeku 4,4 sata dnevno gledajući televiziju.

Studija objavljena u znanstvenom časopisu Social Science & Medicine pokazala je da oni koji čitaju knjige u prosjeku 30 minuta dnevno, recimo poglavlje na dan, žive dulje u usporedbi s onima koji ih ne čitaju. Oni koji čitaju više od 30,3 sata tjedno žive gotovo dvije godine dulje od nečitača. Čitanje knjiga obično uključuje dva kognitivna procesa koja bi mogla utjecati na dugovječnost.

Prvo, potiče se tzv. duboko čitanje, što je spor, uranjajući (imerzivan) proces koji se događa dok čitatelj povlači veze s pročitanim, pronalazi usporedbe s vanjskim svijetom i postavlja pitanja o predstavljenom sadržaju. Kognitivni angažman može objasniti zašto se vokabular, rasuđivanje, koncentracija i vještine kritičkog razmišljanja poboljšavaju što više čitamo.

Drugo, knjige mogu jačati empatiju, društvenu percepciju i emocionalnu inteligenciju, što su kognitivni procesi koji mogu dovesti do duljeg života. Podaci govore i da stariji od 65 godina provode u prosjeku 4,4 sata dnevno gledajući televiziju.
