Ako ovoga vikenda imate slobodnog vremena i razmišljate o jednostavnom desertu, a nekako vam je prirasla srcu britanska kraljevska obitelj, ili makar pokojna kraljica Elizabeta II., možda biste mogli pripremiti palačinke koje je ona, prema obiteljskom receptu, ispekla američkom predsjedniku Dwightu D. Eisenhoweru kad je sa suprugom Marnie bio kod nje u posjetu u dvorcu Balmoral.

Njemu su se palačinke toliko svidjele da je kraljicu zamolio za recept, a ona mu ga je poslala u pismu 1960. godine. Nije poznato je li ih on sam pripremao u Bijeloj kući ili je to činilo njegovo osoblje.
Nisu to klasične tanke palačinke kakve se kod nas obično spremaju, poznate su kao škotske palačinke, neki ih nazivaju i pahuljastim pogačicama, a slične su palačinkama koje Amerikanci vole jesti za doručak, samo malo deblje.
Kraljičino pismo s receptom još uvijek postoji u američkom nacionalnom arhivu, a sad je, nakon što je kraljica Elizabeta II. Preminula 8. rujna u svom škotskom dvorcu Balmoral, recept opet isplivao na površinu i jedan je od trenutačno najpopularnijih, ljudi širom svijeta ga isprobavaju i prilagođavaju svom ukusu, donosi Slobodna Dalmacija.
U pismu Eisenhoweru kraljica kaže:
Kad sam u današnjim novinama vidjela vašu fotografiju kako stojite ispred roštilja podsjetilo me to da vam nisam nikad poslala recept za pogačice koji sam vam obećala u Balmoralu. Nadam se da ćete ih uspješno pripremiti.

A sastojci su:
- četiri šalice (u pravilu sto grama) brašna
- četiri žlice šećera
- dvije šalice mlijeka
- dva jaja
- dvije žličice sode bikarbone
- tri žličice cream of tartar (vinski prašak za pecivo)
- dvije žlice otopljenog maslaca
Kraljica je dala i upute da treba umutiti jaja, šećer, otprilike polovicu mlijeka, dodati brašno i sve dobro izmiješati dodajući ostatak mlijeka, sodu bikarbonu i vinski prašak za pecivo, te rastopljeni maslac.

Smjesu treba jako dobro izmutiti prije nego što se počne u grudicama stavljati na zagrijanu tavu. Kraljica je Eisenhoweru savjetovala i da umjesto šećera koristi melasu ili šećerni sirup, što je također vrlo ukusno.
Na kraju je kazala kako je smjesa dovoljna da u palačinkama, koje je najčešće jela s marmeladom od voća s njezinih imanja, može uživati 16 osoba. A kad je željela napraviti manju količinu, koristila je manje brašna i mlijeka, ali su svi ostali sastojci bili isti.

Zbunjujući sastojak može biti cream of tartar koji se u našim trgovinama ne prodaje pod takvim nazivom, ali se može naći kao weinstein backpulver, odnosno vinski prašak za pecivo. On ubrzava stvaranje pjene, povećava volumen i pomaže stabiliziranju snijega od bjelanjaka. Ako recept predviđa kombinaciju cream of tartara i sode bikarbone, a nemate ga, onda se jednostavno ta oba sastojka mogu zamijeniti klasičnim praškom za pecivo.
Inače, kraljica Elizabeta II. je predsjednika Eisenhowera prvi put susrela 1957. godine na banketu u Bijeloj kući kad je imala 31 godinu, a kasnije ga je ugostila u Balmoralu gdje je redovito provodila nekoliko ljetnih mjeseci.

Ako ovoga vikenda imate slobodnog vremena i razmišljate o jednostavnom desertu, a nekako vam je prirasla srcu britanska kraljevska obitelj, ili makar pokojna kraljica Elizabeta II., možda biste mogli pripremiti palačinke koje je ona, prema obiteljskom receptu, ispekla američkom predsjedniku Dwightu D. Eisenhoweru kad je sa suprugom Marnie bio kod nje u posjetu u dvorcu Balmoral.

Njemu su se palačinke toliko svidjele da je kraljicu zamolio za recept, a ona mu ga je poslala u pismu 1960. godine. Nije poznato je li ih on sam pripremao u Bijeloj kući ili je to činilo njegovo osoblje.
Nisu to klasične tanke palačinke kakve se kod nas obično spremaju, poznate su kao škotske palačinke, neki ih nazivaju i pahuljastim pogačicama, a slične su palačinkama koje Amerikanci vole jesti za doručak, samo malo deblje.
Kraljičino pismo s receptom još uvijek postoji u američkom nacionalnom arhivu, a sad je, nakon što je kraljica Elizabeta II. Preminula 8. rujna u svom škotskom dvorcu Balmoral, recept opet isplivao na površinu i jedan je od trenutačno najpopularnijih, ljudi širom svijeta ga isprobavaju i prilagođavaju svom ukusu, donosi Slobodna Dalmacija.
U pismu Eisenhoweru kraljica kaže:
Kad sam u današnjim novinama vidjela vašu fotografiju kako stojite ispred roštilja podsjetilo me to da vam nisam nikad poslala recept za pogačice koji sam vam obećala u Balmoralu. Nadam se da ćete ih uspješno pripremiti.

A sastojci su:
- četiri šalice (u pravilu sto grama) brašna
- četiri žlice šećera
- dvije šalice mlijeka
- dva jaja
- dvije žličice sode bikarbone
- tri žličice cream of tartar (vinski prašak za pecivo)
- dvije žlice otopljenog maslaca
Kraljica je dala i upute da treba umutiti jaja, šećer, otprilike polovicu mlijeka, dodati brašno i sve dobro izmiješati dodajući ostatak mlijeka, sodu bikarbonu i vinski prašak za pecivo, te rastopljeni maslac.

Smjesu treba jako dobro izmutiti prije nego što se počne u grudicama stavljati na zagrijanu tavu. Kraljica je Eisenhoweru savjetovala i da umjesto šećera koristi melasu ili šećerni sirup, što je također vrlo ukusno.
Na kraju je kazala kako je smjesa dovoljna da u palačinkama, koje je najčešće jela s marmeladom od voća s njezinih imanja, može uživati 16 osoba. A kad je željela napraviti manju količinu, koristila je manje brašna i mlijeka, ali su svi ostali sastojci bili isti.

Zbunjujući sastojak može biti cream of tartar koji se u našim trgovinama ne prodaje pod takvim nazivom, ali se može naći kao weinstein backpulver, odnosno vinski prašak za pecivo. On ubrzava stvaranje pjene, povećava volumen i pomaže stabiliziranju snijega od bjelanjaka. Ako recept predviđa kombinaciju cream of tartara i sode bikarbone, a nemate ga, onda se jednostavno ta oba sastojka mogu zamijeniti klasičnim praškom za pecivo.
Inače, kraljica Elizabeta II. je predsjednika Eisenhowera prvi put susrela 1957. godine na banketu u Bijeloj kući kad je imala 31 godinu, a kasnije ga je ugostila u Balmoralu gdje je redovito provodila nekoliko ljetnih mjeseci.
