Preminuli princ, za kojeg se vjeruje da je ima 86 godina, 1962. je postao ministrom obrane kraljevine, a bio je ključna figura u donošenju odluka u Rijadu. Umro je od karcinoma.

Smrt brata kralja Abdulaha, trenutačnog vladara ultrakonzervativnog arapskog kraljevstva, potaknula je spekulacije o tome tko će doći na čelo najvećeg izvoznika nafte na svijetu i strateškog partnera SAD-a.

Naime, Abdulah bi, kako bi imenovao svog novog nasljednika, trebao sazvati dosad neokupljeno Vijeće saveznika. Spomenuto vijeće je ustanovljeno nedugo nakon što je Abdulah 2006. preuzeo saudijski tron. Zadaća mu je glasanjem potvrditi monarhov izbor ili nominirati vlastitog kandidata jer se u S. Arabiji vlast ne prenosi na sina već na braću i druge rođake. Vjeruje se da će novi preijestolonasljednik biti princ Najef, dugogodišnji ministar unutarnjih poslova. Ako se Vijeće odluči za Najefa ne očekuju se promjene u S. Arabiji. Najef je u kasnim 70-tima, a smatra se konzervativnijim od sadašnjeg kralja i preminulog nasljednika.

Smrt brata kralja Abdulaha, trenutačnog vladara ultrakonzervativnog arapskog kraljevstva, potaknula je spekulacije o tome tko će doći na čelo najvećeg izvoznika nafte na svijetu i strateškog partnera SAD-a.

Naime, Abdulah bi, kako bi imenovao svog novog nasljednika, trebao sazvati dosad neokupljeno Vijeće saveznika. Spomenuto vijeće je ustanovljeno nedugo nakon što je Abdulah 2006. preuzeo saudijski tron. Zadaća mu je glasanjem potvrditi monarhov izbor ili nominirati vlastitog kandidata jer se u S. Arabiji vlast ne prenosi na sina već na braću i druge rođake. Vjeruje se da će novi preijestolonasljednik biti princ Najef, dugogodišnji ministar unutarnjih poslova. Ako se Vijeće odluči za Najefa ne očekuju se promjene u S. Arabiji. Najef je u kasnim 70-tima, a smatra se konzervativnijim od sadašnjeg kralja i preminulog nasljednika.

‘Saudijski prijestolonasljednik, princ Sultan bin Abdulaziz al-Saud, umro je u zoru, objavio je jučer kraljevski dvor u Rijadu u priopćenju za medije Saudijske Arabije. Preminuli princ, za kojeg se vjeruje da je ima 86 godina, 1962. je postao ministrom obrane kraljevine, a bio je ključna figura u donošenju odluka u Rijadu. Umro je od karcinoma.
