Od 6.917 kandidata na lokalnim izborima, 979 je žena. Kandidati se natječu za dvije trećine mjesta u 284 vijeća kraljevine. Preostalu tećinu članova imenuje vlada.

Snage sigurnosti su raspoređene oko birališta samo za žene u četvrti Olaja u prijestolnici Rijadu kako bi podalje držale muškarce.

U skladu sa strogim saudijskim pravilima, muškarci i žene glasuju na odvojenim biralištima. Nakon brojnih prosvjeda ranijih godina, pokojni kralj Abdulah 2011. godine je donio odluku o sudjelovanju žena na izborima.

Prvi izbori U Saudijskoj Arabiji održani su 2005. godine, nakon pauze od čak 40 godina. Zbog strogih zakona žene dosad nisu smjele glasati niti su mogle biti izabrane.

Uber besplatno vozi Saudijke

Online taxi prijevoznik Uber u subotu nudi besplatne vožnje ženama U Saudijskoj Arabiji kako bi dao svoj doprinos rodnoj ravnopravnosti na prvim izborima na kojima sudjeluju žene u toj duboko konzervativnoj islamskoj monarhiji.

Žene U Saudijskoj Arabiji po zakonu još uvijek ne smiju voziti.

Usluga besplatne vožnje za žene koje idu glasati plod je zajedničkih napora američke tvrtke Uber i Filantropskog društva za žene AL-Nahda, saudijske udruge za podršku ženama.

"Moramo sudjelovati jer to smatramo uistinu jačanjem uloge žena", rekla je Rasha Alturki, predsjednica Al-Nahde, i dodala da pozdravlja odluku Ubera te da je "dobro za naš slučaj jer pomaže ženama da izađu i da glasaju".

Inicijativa je dio šire kampanje AL-Nahde da saudijske žene glasaju na izborima te kampanje za rodnu jednakost.

U skladu sa strogim saudijskim pravilima, muškarci i žene glasuju na odvojenim biralištima. Nakon brojnih prosvjeda ranijih godina, pokojni kralj Abdulah 2011. godine je donio odluku o sudjelovanju žena na izborima.

Prvi izbori U Saudijskoj Arabiji održani su 2005. godine, nakon pauze od čak 40 godina. Zbog strogih zakona žene dosad nisu smjele glasati niti su mogle biti izabrane.

Uber besplatno vozi Saudijke

Online taxi prijevoznik Uber u subotu nudi besplatne vožnje ženama U Saudijskoj Arabiji kako bi dao svoj doprinos rodnoj ravnopravnosti na prvim izborima na kojima sudjeluju žene u toj duboko konzervativnoj islamskoj monarhiji.

Žene U Saudijskoj Arabiji po zakonu još uvijek ne smiju voziti.

Usluga besplatne vožnje za žene koje idu glasati plod je zajedničkih napora američke tvrtke Uber i Filantropskog društva za žene AL-Nahda, saudijske udruge za podršku ženama.

"Moramo sudjelovati jer to smatramo uistinu jačanjem uloge žena", rekla je Rasha Alturki, predsjednica Al-Nahde, i dodala da pozdravlja odluku Ubera te da je "dobro za naš slučaj jer pomaže ženama da izađu i da glasaju".

Inicijativa je dio šire kampanje AL-Nahde da saudijske žene glasaju na izborima te kampanje za rodnu jednakost.
