Europski čelnici Matteo Renzi, Angela Merkel i Francois Hollande pokušat će dati nov poticaj Europi koja je u krizi identiteta, sastankom u ponedjeljak poslije podne na otoku Ventotene, simbolu europskog federalizma. 

Talijanski premijer Renzi treba oko 16 sati dočekati njemačku kancelarku Merkel i francuskog predsjednika Hollandea i s njima otputovati na otočić između Rima i Napulja gdje bi troje čelnika trebalo pronaći nadahnuće na grobu Altiera Spinellija, autora "Manifesta iz Ventotenea", kojim je zagovarao federalnu Europu.

Otok Ventotene služio je kao zatvor za jednog od otaca utemeljitelja Europe.

Između 1941. i 1943. fašistički režim služio se tim otočićem kao egzilom za političke protivnike, većinom komuniste. U dvije godine je 2000 zatvorenika prošlo kroz ćelije zatvora Santo Stefano na Ventoteneu.

Među njima bio je Altiero Spinelli, novinar i komunistički aktivist. Godine 1927. bio je osuđen na 16 godina zatvora jer je kritički pisao o dolasku Benita Mussolinija na vlast.

Bio je prebačen na otok 1941., gdje je tajno napisao "Manifest iz Ventotenea" koji povjesničari smatraju jednim od osnova europskog federalizma.

Tekst puna naziva "Za slobodnu i ujedinjenu Europu. Prijedlog manifesta" pisao je na cigaretnom papiru i skrivao u kutiji s dvostrukim dnom te ga tajno prebacio na kopno gdje se od 1943. godine ilegalno raspačavao. 

Danas je zatvor zapušten i mogao bi se srušiti. Renzi je u veljači najavio ulaganje 80 milijuna eura iz javnih fondova za obnovu kompleksa koji želi pretvoriti u mjesto kulture i obrazovanja za mlade Europljane. 

Britanski referendum o izlasku iz Europske unije (Brexit) i njegove posljedice po budućnost Europske unije vrlo je brzo čelnike Njemačke, Francuske i Italija na zajednčki sastanak te su se u Berlinu 27. lipnja zauzeli za to da se Europi dade "nov poticaj".

Britanska odluka da napusti EU "politički je poraz" za Europu i trebala bi biti "divovski poziv na buđenje" za EU koja se mora brzo reformirati, ustvrdio je krajem srpnja Renzi. 

Sastanak u ponedjeljak na sredozemnom otoku odvija se tri tjedna prije izvanrednog europskog summita o Brexitu 16. rujna u Bratislavi.

Europski čelnici Matteo Renzi, Angela Merkel i Francois Hollande pokušat će dati nov poticaj Europi koja je u krizi identiteta, sastankom u ponedjeljak poslije podne na otoku Ventotene, simbolu europskog federalizma. 

Talijanski premijer Renzi treba oko 16 sati dočekati njemačku kancelarku Merkel i francuskog predsjednika Hollandea i s njima otputovati na otočić između Rima i Napulja gdje bi troje čelnika trebalo pronaći nadahnuće na grobu Altiera Spinellija, autora "Manifesta iz Ventotenea", kojim je zagovarao federalnu Europu.

Otok Ventotene služio je kao zatvor za jednog od otaca utemeljitelja Europe.

Između 1941. i 1943. fašistički režim služio se tim otočićem kao egzilom za političke protivnike, većinom komuniste. U dvije godine je 2000 zatvorenika prošlo kroz ćelije zatvora Santo Stefano na Ventoteneu.

Među njima bio je Altiero Spinelli, novinar i komunistički aktivist. Godine 1927. bio je osuđen na 16 godina zatvora jer je kritički pisao o dolasku Benita Mussolinija na vlast.

Bio je prebačen na otok 1941., gdje je tajno napisao "Manifest iz Ventotenea" koji povjesničari smatraju jednim od osnova europskog federalizma.

Tekst puna naziva "Za slobodnu i ujedinjenu Europu. Prijedlog manifesta" pisao je na cigaretnom papiru i skrivao u kutiji s dvostrukim dnom te ga tajno prebacio na kopno gdje se od 1943. godine ilegalno raspačavao. 

Danas je zatvor zapušten i mogao bi se srušiti. Renzi je u veljači najavio ulaganje 80 milijuna eura iz javnih fondova za obnovu kompleksa koji želi pretvoriti u mjesto kulture i obrazovanja za mlade Europljane. 

Britanski referendum o izlasku iz Europske unije (Brexit) i njegove posljedice po budućnost Europske unije vrlo je brzo čelnike Njemačke, Francuske i Italija na zajednčki sastanak te su se u Berlinu 27. lipnja zauzeli za to da se Europi dade "nov poticaj".

Britanska odluka da napusti EU "politički je poraz" za Europu i trebala bi biti "divovski poziv na buđenje" za EU koja se mora brzo reformirati, ustvrdio je krajem srpnja Renzi. 

Sastanak u ponedjeljak na sredozemnom otoku odvija se tri tjedna prije izvanrednog europskog summita o Brexitu 16. rujna u Bratislavi.
