Brojke teško mogu biti sugestivnije. Prihodi od poreza ove će godine biti manji za otprilike 18 posto – najveći pad zabilježen još od vremena Velike depresije, iz 30-ih godina prošloga stoljeća. U isto vrijeme, federalni deficit ostat će napuhan do nevjerojatnih 1,8 trilijuna dolara.
Preostali detalji u analizi koju su načinili stručnjaci Associated Pressa samo još pozornije pojašnjavaju o čemu se radi: porezni prihodi od pojedinaca manji su za 22 posto u odnosu na prošlu godinu; prihodi prikupljeni od tvrtki i korporacija kraći su za čak 57 posto. Uplate za Social Security bit će siromašnije tek drugi put od 1940., a porezni prihodi za Medicare upisat će negativne brojke tek treći put otkako je program uveden.

Velika depresija, najteža ekonomska kriza u povijesti SAD-a, bila je u punome zamahu. “Američki porezni sustav ionako je već neadekvatan da bi podržao sva obećanja vladajuće administracije”, kaže Eugene Steurle, bivši visoki službenik Ministarstva financija u vladi Ronalda Reagana, a sada potpredsjednik zaklade “Peter G. Peterson” i dodaje: “Aktualna situacija samo raspiruje problem...”
I dok je najveći dio političkog Washingtona trenutačno zaokupljen dvojbom kako platiti za nove programe – među kojima je reforma zdravstvenog osiguranja s cijenom većom od jednog trilijuna dolara (kroz 10 godina) – lijepi broj aktualnih programa počinje osjećati glavobolju. Social Security bi mogao ostati kompletno bez novca ranije nego je to vlada najavila prije samo nekoliko mjeseci.
Autoceste, masovni transport i zrakoplovni projekti, uključujući i proširenja zračnih luka, odjednom su stavljeni pod znak pitanja budući da porezi prikupljeni od prodaje goriva i inih industrijskih proizvoda trenutačno bilježe negativne trendove. Američki nacionalni manjak već je premašio 11 trilijuna dolara. A programi upravo odobreni na Capitol Hillu pojačat će potrošnju vladinih resora za 11 posto u 2010. godini. Posebna stavka, također, jest potrošnja za američke oružane snage, a to će iduće godine porasti za četiri posto.
Ima li izlaza iz aktualne fiskalne noćne more? Ključni čimbenik – upozoravaju ekonomisti – jest ukupno zdravlje ekonomije. Dakle, kako stvari (trenutačno) stoje, Amerikancima će, hitno, trebati još puno antibiotika...

Brojke teško mogu biti sugestivnije. Prihodi od poreza ove će godine biti manji za otprilike 18 posto – najveći pad zabilježen još od vremena Velike depresije, iz 30-ih godina prošloga stoljeća. U isto vrijeme, federalni deficit ostat će napuhan do nevjerojatnih 1,8 trilijuna dolara.
Preostali detalji u analizi koju su načinili stručnjaci Associated Pressa samo još pozornije pojašnjavaju o čemu se radi: porezni prihodi od pojedinaca manji su za 22 posto u odnosu na prošlu godinu; prihodi prikupljeni od tvrtki i korporacija kraći su za čak 57 posto. Uplate za Social Security bit će siromašnije tek drugi put od 1940., a porezni prihodi za Medicare upisat će negativne brojke tek treći put otkako je program uveden.

Velika depresija, najteža ekonomska kriza u povijesti SAD-a, bila je u punome zamahu. “Američki porezni sustav ionako je već neadekvatan da bi podržao sva obećanja vladajuće administracije”, kaže Eugene Steurle, bivši visoki službenik Ministarstva financija u vladi Ronalda Reagana, a sada potpredsjednik zaklade “Peter G. Peterson” i dodaje: “Aktualna situacija samo raspiruje problem...”
I dok je najveći dio političkog Washingtona trenutačno zaokupljen dvojbom kako platiti za nove programe – među kojima je reforma zdravstvenog osiguranja s cijenom većom od jednog trilijuna dolara (kroz 10 godina) – lijepi broj aktualnih programa počinje osjećati glavobolju. Social Security bi mogao ostati kompletno bez novca ranije nego je to vlada najavila prije samo nekoliko mjeseci.
Autoceste, masovni transport i zrakoplovni projekti, uključujući i proširenja zračnih luka, odjednom su stavljeni pod znak pitanja budući da porezi prikupljeni od prodaje goriva i inih industrijskih proizvoda trenutačno bilježe negativne trendove. Američki nacionalni manjak već je premašio 11 trilijuna dolara. A programi upravo odobreni na Capitol Hillu pojačat će potrošnju vladinih resora za 11 posto u 2010. godini. Posebna stavka, također, jest potrošnja za američke oružane snage, a to će iduće godine porasti za četiri posto.
Ima li izlaza iz aktualne fiskalne noćne more? Ključni čimbenik – upozoravaju ekonomisti – jest ukupno zdravlje ekonomije. Dakle, kako stvari (trenutačno) stoje, Amerikancima će, hitno, trebati još puno antibiotika...
